I watched this this morning after reading a lot of fans moaning about it, saying we were getting a slagging off, the usual "we're second, what more do they want, net spend blah blah, we've only lost 3" etc etc.

All true.

But I watched it and tbh, the fans are talking utter bollocks. Carragher and Neville haven't slated us in that piece, they've offered some realism to the situation. We were powder puff at the weekend, it does usually happen at our rivals grounds, it has been an ongoing issue, it is the stepping stone to being realistic challengers, it is a mentality thing and it is typical Tottenham.

When we stop accepting second is an achievement, when we go into these games with confidence, and when we finally decide that it's not beneath us to win the League Cup, FA Cup or the Europa League then we will make that next step.

Personally, I thought they were both bang on the money.

Sorry, I presumed it would just post the video and my rambling. I'm not very good at this stuff. :(

I think they are both bang on the money and make plenty of valid points there to be honest.

I agree,we have to start winning things, top 4 is not winning something.Whilst it is lovely to qualify for champions league and make more money,as an unashamed older fan,I want fa cup winner or europa league winner on my mug,not finished 3rd or 4th and made £40m.
I do understand the imperative for playing in CL,players attraction or at least staying put at the club, but qualifying for a cup is not winning a damn thing.
I think its fair comment to say we need to win some competitions,or rather we are good enough to,I dont blame carragher or neville for saying that, what I do find bollox is our own fans slagging everyone off from Levy to davies over one result, yeah be massively disappointed but who on earth really thought we would get top 4 this year let alone sit 2nd in this period?and now apparently everyone at spurs is a wanker again, and this from some of our own fans.Same fans alot of em who would ditch any cup for making CL money because league cup,fa cup, europa league are apparently beneath us.
I expect a reaction from the side after the liverpool fiasco, and thats the heartening thing for me ATM,is that I expect that,i dont expect a slump or us to go into our shells,so we are halfway there, now we just have to stop performances that need a reaction to get over them.
Last season I was disappointed that we threw away the dortmund clashes and the competition through sending out a team that had no right to be playing against that quality, everyone will maybe say "we had a chance of winning the league tho",but that didnt pan out and who knows if we could have progressed in the EL and still made 3rd place eh??it was the giving up on a cup that pissed me off, whether it is a 2nd rate european cup or not,I dont care,I dont care if its only the league cup I want to win it,I truly dispare when people want us to go out of a cup so we can concentrate on another cup.You enter 4 competitions at most, yes they are ranked, but winning the 4th ranked trophy or winning nothing you have to be a complete arse to not care if we win it or not.Hopefully the manager isnt one of those people.

Why not do both? - win a cup and qualify for CL. That's what we're all secretly hoping for isn't it? The thing is this 'new' Tottenham has only been in existence for a couple of years and now everyone (Spurs fans and some media) is treating it like we've been at the top of the table and in Champions league for years. We haven't. Poch and Levy are doing a great job, whilst also building a £600m Stadium. These things can't be done overnight. I'm giving the management and players another 2 years, if we haven't won anything by then, it's time for a re-evaluation. This group will want a season in the new stadium I would imagine and in 2 years they will be at their peak.

Lets not rant too loudly until then, these are great times.

Fair comments by both the pundits, both have been very positive about Pochettino's Spur's.

Considering the company we are in, we are probably over-achieving with the squad we have, but we should be good enough to win a cup with the players we have.

OFC,try and do our best in every competition,You have 30 players at your disposal for a reason, this year the "rest the players" theory has been debunked in the FA cup, with sides going out of the cup and then league form after with the rested side not doing so good.We nearly paid the price for over rotation vs wycombe, that game there would have been nothing wrong with keeping a nucleus of a settled side,to help the youngsters and non starters,I am never a fan of changing 10 players, let joshua play with eriksen or dembele, dont expect him to shine with a mix&match midfield of sissoko, nkoudou, winks, son dier.jan/February wasnt like march with a weekend/midweek schedule 3 or 4 of the weeks.Personally being a big fan of the cups I have never dared speak the heresy of lets rest someone from a league game to help us win a cup game, even though I feel like it at times,I would be perceived as a lunatic by most,i suspect bfwolf would swallow his ringpiece if I ever expressed that.

Don't forget that there are only 3 teams that can win anything of note in the UK every year and 2 more if you include Europe. Factor in Chairmen saying that the top 4 is the holy grail and those 5 possibles become 2 or 3 because managers play weakened teams in the EFL and FA Cups.

Why I hear you ask, through the gnashing of teeth? Well because that is where the money is that buys the new shiny big stadiums, the £60m centre forward and £30-40m players that you need to compete at the top and win things and if you're not on that train, players will get off and get on one that is, because they want the limelight the trophies, the boot, car and kit deal, with the FIFA18 adverts and their image rights...

So for us old'uns that still love the FA Cup, The UEFA Cup, The Cup Winners Cup, and the European Cup....well times they are a changing. I'm still going to Fulham on Sunday, having begged, stolen and borrowed for a ticket, but I also accept the modern football business world and will happily be very proud of our new Qatar Airlines White Hart lane, when I'm sitting in the South stand for Woolwich at home in 2019. It's evolution, we can't change it and at least we're doing it in just about the best way possible, rather than having taken the the American, Middle East or Russian dollar.

we have a very decent run in with two home games against manure and the scum both games I expect us to win.win them two and the lift it gives you for the final push.that said we were awful against the dippers and city away first half anyway.we have a thing we're when concede in the big games we almost always concede a second right after it,this is something poch needs to address and quick because in cup games it kills the tie.i think the fa cup is our most realistic and I'd take that all day long

Although, I believe the biggest impact to our season is the number of draws we have had. Only 3 losses is the same as Chelsea, it's just the 8 draws, most of these we should have won

You can end up doing your head in with too much over analysis....yes we could have, should've, would've won a few of the draws, but we might have lost a few as well....City away and Liverpool at home to name two, chuck WBA in as well if you like....
