Imagine what it must be like to be 35 and feel like your whole life is behind you.

Years will pass, as will that feeling, but it must be overwhelming at the time. Most of us only get little methadone-dosed trickles of that feeling until we're old enough to deal with it when it happens.

I think about this a lot. One thing that's easy to lose sight of with all the money splashed around is how much of their lives elite footballers (which I'd define as anybody who plays football for a living) have to give to the game. Then it's over.

Anyway, Azza was and is one of my favorites. It's easy to forget how long he played at or near the top level, but he's been around almost as long as the likes of James Milner. And it's not disparaging him at all to say that his biggest contribution might have been discussing his battles with depression a few years back--he was one of the first to really open up to the public about it. Great career.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Lennon. He was the best player on the pitch in my first ever trip to the Lane. A 1-0 win over Blackburn in 2008. Pav scored but Lennon was the star of the show.

Loved him. A player who got the crowd up off their arses time and time again.
I hope his future's bright and hope
he has the right people around him helping him along the way to do and to cope with whatever's next.

First 10 mins or so of Crouches new book, how to be an Ex Footballer talks about it. It is a bizarre situation. Most of us have jobs we get on with maybe even like, but these guys typically love football and don't want it to end.
