Well one week to go and I see all over the planet via the great internet people melting down over our activity (lack of/lateness) or like myself, many simply not arsed because it seems that there is no cause for alarm here.
I find it hard to accept people watching on stolen streams or even paying a tv subscription,or have a membership or even a season ticket have the right to demand we spend £40m on so and so,or give eriksen 150k,but thats just me.
So three options about our transfer policy ATM
A)Are we being unambitious,by not expanding on what we have done/achieved by not lashing out millions?
B)Is it right to be financially prudent these years with NWHL being built?
C)Is Levy and uncle Joe snidely trousering money as a return on investment?,
All the current chatter with a week to go is in order of likelyhood, yedlin to go (5m),bentaleb to go (15m) mason to go (+8m) Chadli to go (+10m),Son to go (+17m) Njie to go in swap with Nkomin48hrsdo.
Well it looks a bit like a clearance sale, but is it?None of the aforementioned would be in most peoples starting XI and could net +£55m in sales,we have already moved fazio out and got minor amounts for Ball and Ward and sold Pritchard.
We spent well on wanyama and Janssen, anymore through the door??well lets go for the full meltdown,,business is done except pruning the wage bill.Yedlin wasnt here last year so never been part of our matchday,on top of which we have walker-peters and Carter-vickers ready to join the squad soon.Bentaleb and mason, hardly figured last season, wanyama has replaced one and Winks has come through,on top of which we still have carroll not playing regularily as cover.Lets say Levy goes full kerchinnnnng and sells both chadli and son, neither are starters but first off the bench, for us,onomah and edwards coming through and either Njie to stay after missing 90% of last season (would ineffect feel like a new signing) or Nkonsigninin48hrs to come in to the squad. And then we have the bonus of a 2nd true striker this season in Janssen, and Harrison looking capable as 3rd choice, but lets hope no one gets injured too soon or too long!
That brings the real debate, should we be buying, here and now a few top quality players?and if so who?? bearing in mind we dont spend anything over £15m wisely...ever....and Levy is not going to rock the boat by paying over 100k in wages.Perhaps Mitchell looked at it like this and thought "job done" because unless Levy pulls another VDV out of his arse (it was a magnificent signing daniel) I dont see who or why we need to spend big bucks,we have a settled quality first 13/14 players, excellent prospects in 5 or 6 of the kids from winks to edwards, and very adequate bench players in davies, trippier, vorm.
Obviously 5 serious injuries,or finishing below 6th and blowing out of all the cups would look like we missed the boat this window, but I believe our policy this year is sound.Poch is moving on people who wont progress with us,thats the reality, and I like that he doesnt want to hold up their careers or block the path of the academy`s rising stars. After all we achieved last season the core of this group deserves the chance to take their chance and for me buying Gotze, zlatan or any of the other big names sold this year just doesnt in the cold light of this mid-august day seem necessary, unless you purely want to troll city, utd, chelsea fans with we signed blah blah blah..
Anyway how does anyone else feel about it?
If Levy does bring in +£55m as predicted I guess he will treat Poch to someone special, thing is will Poch agree to take them!!!
