      ...Spurs go marching on!

Aston Villa have won the FA Cup 7 times, the last time being back in 1957
      1887, 1895, 1897 , 1905 , 1913 , 1920, 1957

Tottenham Hotspur have won the FA Cup 8 times, the last time was in 1991, in 1901 we were the first non-league club to win the FA Cup, we didn't become a league club until 1908.
      1901, 1921 , 1961 , 1962 , 1967, 1981, 1982 , 1991

The last time we played Aston Villa in the FA Cup was in 1992, we drew 0-0 away on the 5th January and lost the replay at the Lane 0-1 on the 14th January.

Next game is midday saturday, home to west brom,so it really is who&how much do we rotate? We dont start on two fixtures a week until end of january & thats if we progress in this cup.So personally just a few changes here&there but not wholesale, keep the momentum, maybe give walker&rose a day off?plenty of midfield options with winks, son, sissoko so perhaps give dembele a rest seeing as he is our most fragile player injurywise.
I dont do line ups as a general rule but perhaps this??
      Hugo,trippier,toby,jan,davies,dier,wanyama,eriksen,winks,son,kane .
I dont fucking know,I am not a 1000th as clued up as Poch, dont see them train, dont know how he values giving game time to Nkodou, onomah, janssen, vorm, wimmer carter-vickers,lamela?remember him?.If only we had options eh!!
Basically I have traded giving walker and rose a rest by keeping the CBs together, with hugo, winks for dembele and son for dele, kane can play til HT when has a hatrick and then have a sit down too.
      Simples

Simples as thing that is not simples I reckon. I agree that Trippier and Davies should play, I'd probably not take the risk of dropping Toby or Wanywrma - give them a rest at half time when were 3 or 4 in front. Janssen could do with a full game, I'd love to see him get his confidence back and bang in a hat-trick. The problem is that while I'd like to see these blokes play I REALLY want to win the FA Cup this year. We need someone who plays Football Manager 2017 on his computer to explain what the Poch should do, I expect he has someone like that in his team that tells him who to play.

I think after a busy Christmas and 4 wins out of 4 you'll see wholesale changes to get as many game time and match fit as possible. Who knows who we are going to need come February and March. I think the same will happen against Gent. Both the Aston Villa and Gent matches are winnable with our squad team - I know a lot of people don't like it and I understand their reasons, but I think a bit of rest this weekend for those carrying knocks and niggles is a good idea, they can sit on the Emergency bench (only use if required) if necessary? The FA Cup won't be high on villa's list of priorities either, they need to get back to the Premier league.

      I wouldn't even mind:
      Vorm
      Trippier CCV Wimmer Davies
      Dier, Winks
      Son, Sissoko, GKN
      Janssen

      with a strong bench.

I had a Dorset style lurk earlier today....I know I shouldn't have but the bloke in question suggested that Poch needs to prove it for a full season before he starts getting too much credit. What a total cunt...what do these people want? honestly. Can you imagine what it's like being in their company for longer than 1 minute. They'd win £10m on the lottery and complain it wasn't £20m.....they're just oxygen thieves and of no benefit to anyone on any level.

Does last season's best ever Premier League finish, and all the other 'bests' we achieved last season not count as a full season? Even the season before's 5th was seriously good considering the changes he was making. Yep, total cunt.

Squad rotation is fine. We're strong enough as a squad to beat Villa so our starting 11 don't all need to feature. Wonder if Lamela could be back? Could be a very good game to get him some match fitness and young Vincent too. Lad needs some goals. I would actually play Toby, just to keep his rhythm going as he's had a very stop startish season as well.....But as many have said wtf do I know.

Things I do know though is how important the 'feel good factor' is and momentum. Why do such a spiffy job on Chelsea, to feck up against Villa? Play a good team, get through and see who we draw. For all we know (and hope) a lot of the top teams could have been knocked out by the time we play. Do we really turn our noses up at a chance of actually winning something?

For my sins, I still stick my head in at the other place and the amount of people that want us to throw not only the FA cup but also Europa astounded me. When did we as a club (fans) become so cocky and arrogant that these competitions were beneath us?

Of course we want to win the league..... Doesn't mean we will though. We'll do our damnedest to achieve it, but that shouldn't mean that everything else around us should be sacrificed.

      Rant over

I agree, dumping other cups at this stage is ridiculous,we could draw with west brom again!! and lose to city and then the FA cup would look pretty sweet,go out the fa cup and EL will look pretty sweet, there is a balance to be had,and probably the next couple of rounds of each cup we can rest&rotate enough to chase all 3 trophies in to mid march, nothing wrong with an assesment then of where we are at,but more games, more winning, more revenue, more chances for the other 14 players in the squad, more glory!!
Europa league is still 6 weeks away from starting again, why talk about dumping it in december??As a squad and coaching set up we need to keep learning that includes managing fixtures, rotation, european experience, playing at wembley experience,if we manage that until the end of march properly we could be in the quarter finals of the fa cup and EL and still in the top 4 hunting. That is not delusion,at this point we should hope its more than likely, what do you think our players hope for?go out of the cups?
I say win them all,or at least aim to,isnt that what sport is all about?

Lucky for us we have 2 excellent fullbacks in Davies and Tripper, the latter probably one of the best players on the pitch in his last game against watford, Winks who has been excellent so far, Sissoko who is starting to look good plus player of the month for Sept in Son. We can also be confident in Vorm after he did a great job in covering for Lloris early the season, so that's 6 changes and a very, very strong team. Hell I even forgot Wimmer.

Play one of Jan/Toby, one of Dier/Wanyama, one of Alli/Eriksen the rest on the bench just in case and we ought to booking our place for round 4.

I'll leave Poch to decide whether to start with either Kane or Janssen.

Year of the cockerel, I quite like an FA cup final, it's been far to long and of course if we get there, more time to get to know Wembley some more.

Good point about the 'feel good factor', but I think we need to give the squad players a taste of that as well. We might need them later in the season. I can't see the Poch making Wenger style changes and playing a youth team on Sunday but I think one or two of our '2nd' team could get a start, luckily they are all good enough to shine like a shiney thing in our quest for shiney stuff to put in our trophy cabinet.

Winning the FA Cup and or the Europa League and or the title would be an incredible boost for our young players and like us they would be hopelessly addicted to THFC glory and would never consider moving to a lesser club like Real Madrid where the glory is plastic.

The numpties in the other place who don't think anything is good enough if it isn't the Champions League got right up my nose, luckily we don't have to listen to them anymore because we all live in a yellow submarine now.... no, that's not right, we all live in a beautiful place where fairies wear boots, summfik like that.

Mauricio on @ErikLamela: "He is close but is a little bit frustrated and it's tough for him to not be involved at the moment..."
"He has travelled to Rome with our staff to finish his recovery. We hope after that he can be involved with the team again."

The always excellent ham&high presser report.
      http://www.hamhigh.co.uk/sport/foot..._prepares_to_make_changes_in_fa_cup_1_4839834

Mauricio Pochettino says it is important that Tottenham’s senior players get mental respite as well as physical recuperation time as he prepares to make changes for Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Aston Villa.

While a number of European leagues have winter breaks, Spurs and their Premier League rivals have been playing throughout the festive period – and the Lilywhites have just played three times in the space of eight days.

They ended that sequence with a stunning 2-0 home win over Chelsea, but Pochettino is aware that his top men need time to rest their minds as well as their bodies.

“I think it’s key, that [mental] area is key for me,” he said. “The Premier League is not only tough because of the physical demands, which is massive, but mental too.

“I think you can see plenty of pictures of [players from] different leagues in Europe in swimming pools, on the beach and with their families, relaxing - but our players were training, playing and going to bed early at night.

“I think that’s very tough because they’re very young and they need to enjoy life. Maybe it’s different to us. We are older and we enjoy when we’re in bed but they need to enjoy life. They’re young and have a lot of energy and they believe their life stops in a few years.

“We know very well that your life maybe starts after your career, but it’s too difficult to translate that feeling. That’s why it’s sometimes not only physical rest but mental that they need and they need to relax. If not they can maybe one day explode.”

Pochettino continued: “Of course it’s an important game for us [on Sunday] in an important competition, the FA Cup. Maybe it’s a good opportunity for us after a very busy period over Christmas to give some chances to some players that have maybe not played regularly.

“But we need to find a way to try to be competitive because we play again against a very good team in Aston Villa and we want to go further in that competition too.

“But we need to assess the players after this period and try to take the best decisions to try to help the players and the team and try to achieve big things - and one of the big things is to try to win Sunday’s game and go to the next stage of the FA Cup.

“I don’t know how many changes there will be. Not 11, but we cannot today have a clear idea. Tomorrow, sure, because we need to measure the levels of all the players properly – not only physically but mentally. Some players maybe need rest. We will mix maybe a little bit the starting XI from Chelsea with some players.”

Tottenham have a proud record in the FA Cup, having won the competition on eight occasions. But their latest triumph was back in 1991 and they have not reached the final four since 2012.

“We played the final against Chelsea two years ago in the Capital One Cup,” Pochettino pointed out. “But yes, I would like to go further, and the players too and the club of course - they have a tradition in the cups.

“It’s true we’ve struggled a little bit for different reasons. We will see, maybe this season is a good opportunity to go further in the FA Cup.

“Sometimes it’s about luck, it’s about draws, but it’s in our minds to go further in the Premier League and Europa League and of course the FA Cup too.

“I think we have a very strong squad and it’s a moment where [some] players work very hard and don’t have the facility to play. Maybe we will make some changes but that doesn’t mean the competition isn’t important for us.

“I think we need to start to think that if some players play it’s an important competition, and if they don’t play it’s still the same.

“I think if Tottenham play it’s an important competition and we need to trust in all our players because in the end, for me, football is about the collective and trying to all be important and feeling part of the success and failure too.

“That’s why it’s important to give the team a balance over the 10 months that we’re involved in all competitions, and to show that all the periods are important.

“Of course some players play more than others but if they are at Tottenham it’s because they are a good player and can play in every game and can play in different competitions too.”

I'd like to see the full backs rotated out, Ericksen replaced by Winks, Sisoko in centre midfield holding, Wimmer geg a game, CCV get at least 45 mins, Vorm give Hugo a rest and Jansen allowed to run his arse off for a full 90 minutes.

There are obvious changes that could be made in this game but, I'm not sure Pochettino will be as 'flexible' as some of us would like him to be.

      For me,

      Vorm

      Trippier - Carter-Vickers - Wimmer - Davies

      Wanyama - Winks

      Sissoko - Onomah - Son

      Janssen

Lopez, Vertonghen, N'Koudou, Dele, Edwards, Kane, Harrison

Hmm that lineup is extremely 'flexible' I reckon. If the Poch played that lineup and we thumped Villa then fear would be spread throughout the premiership, they would be all 'ooooh if their 2nd team is that good what hope have we got - we are doomed!'

I don't think he will be that flexible and I would deffo have Toby in there to boss the defence, Wanyama can boss the midfield and I would let Dele play again because he is having so much fun and his 3 or 4 goals would inspire the others - he doesn't need resting so let him do some outrageous stuff like scorpion kick goals and that thing that Lamela did. But as usual I have to state that I know fuck all about football tactics so my opinion is as much use a condom would be to the numpties in the other place - they will NEVER se a real life naked lady!

Too many changes for my liking, @boo Vorm yes but Hugo on bench. Trippier, Davies, Wanyama Winks and Son Yes. Dele starting up front. 3-0 up and then changes.

I know what you mean mate, but all of those in that starting eleven are more than good enough to get us threw to the next round. Mind, like I said, Pochettino won't be as flexible with his team.

Eddie Howe misjudged his opposition yesterday and put out a weakened team. Whilst I agree with you @boo your starting lads are good enough on paper and from what we have seen this season but this is Spurs and the FA Cup. :(;)

Momentum has to be kept, sensible resting of half a dozen?no point playing the prospects if they suffer from a confidence crusher now,mix and intergrate em sensibly. For instance if we want Janssen to score, gain form and confidence,at least give him a better chance with one or two of our normal midfield suppliers. To me throwing winks, onomah, carroll, nkoudou, sissoko as a MF unit just to make eleven changes gives no continuity, they need an eriksen,or dembele or a wanyama in there,(i see you did that this isnt aimed at you;)) to guide and help.Balance the need for a win and resting with developing the squad together, not creating an A & B side feeling.
      well thats my view.

Maybe Carter-Vickers, Onomah and Janssen are the 'weak' links in that line up above? Mind, having seen Carter-Vickers play, I don't think 'weak' link does him justice. Janssen is back to full fitness after his lay off although, Harry Kane will probably start before him, Dele Alli for Onomah and Alderweireld maybe (I'd still be tempted to play Carter-Vickers though)

Yep, remember the League Cup NLD in September 2015? Loris, Alli, Walker and Vertonghen not in the starting line up? Letting that twunt Flamini score 2, fuck! I was grumpy that night and have almost got over it, not quite, maybe I never will! We can't get humiliated at the Lane, especially not this season!
