Remember the early months of Pochettino at spurs, some more mentally challenged welsh fans in particular saying Poch couldnt handle big name/experienced players after the cull of AVBs and previous managers players, the night fit in or fuck off, became fuck off for a few.Anyway Ryan Mason has been talking publically about it.Here is what is being quoted.

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...tinos-first-season-at-tottenham-a3846041.html
Mason: "It is no secret there were a few bad eggs at Tottenham. A lot of managers were scared to stand up to them and it was a case of the players being in control of the managers, really. I was so desperate to play for Spurs. It helped because I had Harry and some other boys..................."
"In the first few weeks of pre-season, there were a few lads not giving as much as they should. We called them out, we had arguments. I squared up to a few senior players. I think that is why the fans now see connection with club and the players. And the gaffer coming in was part of that. You have got players now that actually care about the club and want to play."

This is old ITK from SC site

My recollection was the scrappy start to the season back in 2014,was not on its knees, but some peoples confidence was buckling towards lets face it an unknown quantity of a manager to spurs fans.In his book Poch more or less said the heat was on and there wasnt much to be lost by drawing a line and it was then his way or no way for the players.
Sunday nov 2 2014 late afternoon probably about 10mins to six, everything changed
1414952469066_Image_galleryImage_Tottenham_Hotspur_s_Harry.JPG

Lloris, Naughton, Kaboul (c),Vertonghen, Rose; Capoue, Chadli, Eriksen, Mason; Adebayor, Soldado
subs: Vorm, Fazio, Dembele, Stambouli, Lamela, Townsend, Kane

Poch hooked eriksen, and ade for lamela and Kane then andros came on for i cant remember who.Chadli equalised in the last 10mins,we got a freekick edge of the box,Kane pushed Lamela away from it,I wished it hadnt needed a deflection but what the hell Kane scored and flukey as it was,the ball was rolling and an era was born.
Only Hugo, jan, eriksen&rose survived the cull after this,Lennon was already out the picture, kaboul&adebayor immediatly joined him.

Two league matches later vs Hull this is the line up
Lloris, Dier, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies; Dembele, Mason, Eriksen, Lamela; Kane, Soldado Subs: Vorm, Ball, Chiriches, Ceballos, Lennon, Paulinho, Stambouli

Looking more familiar to what we have now to an extent, ade, kaboul gone, naughton gone, lennon on bench but was finished, paulinio.capoue, stambouli never to be used meaningfully again,it was a proper night of the long knives cull.

Bringing it up to date and making it some what relevant(if speculative!!),Toby eh,he is not out of the side because Poch is having a hissy fit over non contract signing, its not his style to be vindictive over the good of the team.Is there a need to take care over his hamstring, similar to how at times dembele has sat out periods even when he has considered himself fit.Is it what he is showing in training?his level of fitness?(they measure everything fat content, bodymass, hydration levels) or for all his kiss arse social media to publically show his support for the team Toby has crossed poch`s line in some way?Now i am not suggesting Toby is a bad apple, just history has shown when Poch does this (if not always apparent at the time),there is a reason or was a reason.

Ryan Mason said one day he will name names about who the bad apples were and what went on.Like gary lineker i am all ears about that.

Player in Training.
I love the bit about Kaboul. "I wouldn't stand up to him. Younes would flatten anyone." But in hindsight it's pretty obvious that crew was mailing it in. Sissies.

The desire, effort and commitment was evident as recently as the Leciester game. 3-1 down early in the second half, last game of the season, in the sunshine, Champions League guaranteed and the whole team going to the World Cup.....you might have forgiven them for taking it a bit easy.

They came back and won the game 5-4 to finish third. Says a lot.

Hats off to the younger guys, Kane, Mason etc. for standing up to the Adebayor, Kaboul crew - disgraceful on the money they were earning. (Although that Arsenal winning goal eh?)

I would guess that is a problem at chelsea,a core of players have run the managers, that comes from the owner/chairman,and if it needed Levy to tell adebayor his antics wouldnt be tolerated, then previously Levy had enabled this,if it took him to end this behaviour. If players can back channel the manager to the board, then leadership of the team is shot.

I would say also it saved hugo, eriksen and Jan`s careers with tottenham, well documented they were not happy these times. But they are steady charachters and good people, they just needed kane, mason and the spurs fans in the team to show the heart we had missed since redknapps mercenaries.

Ironically, as opposed to Terry's gang, as was back in the day at Chelsea and Spurs, I think one of our strengths is the team spirit so clearly evident and engineered by Poch. This is also evidenced by Vertonghen in recent articles. It makes you think about things like the lunch Poch had with Fergie, perhaps Poch wanted to know how to handle the Kaboul crew, in the same way that Fergie kicked many of his own out - Stam, Beckham, van Nistelrooy, etc.

I think next year will be a pivotal year all round. It's going to be difficult in a new Stadium, but team bonding will only carry you so far. At an average age of about 25 they are all going to be in their prime. The time might be 2019 to lay down our first marker.

Yes, good shout, there are a few issues though (see below) he was one of Sherwood's babes, could have made it with Poch if he had the right attitude, he doesn't, it seems.

From ESPN in Feb 2018
Schalke have warned former Spurs midfielder Nabil Bentaleb that he must change his attitude, sporting executive Christian Heidel told reporters on Thursday.

Bentaleb joined Schalke on loan in 2016 and made the move permanent for a reported €19 million last year. But after making 32 Bundesliga appearances in his debut season, his second has been marred by injuries and a conflict with head coach Domenico Tedesco as he has played only seven times in the league. Tedesco told a news conference: "It's common knowledge that we've not been happy with Nabil's manner in recent weeks. "We have now got the squad on board, and have addressed it. It's up to him now, and in a one-to-one everything's good."

Heidel backed his coach and said "team interest is always above individual interest."
He added: "He's not a bad person, but he's over-ambitious. Everything's bad when he's not playing.
"We could win 5-0, but if he were only to feature for 45 minutes he'd make a face as if we had lost 5-0." "If all of us were to think that way, we'd have a problem. Thank God that's not the case. Nabil must change, and he understands it."

there is and never has been an answer for anyone to change their personality for the better,or do people think kane, eriksen just woke up one day and decided to be good, hard working honest caring people. It seems Poch is a good judge, holtby, bentaleb ok anyone could have seen adebayor, kaboul were pure wank, maybe lennon going all radio, but everytime he sees a concern he deals with it,its really why if he has looked into tobys mind and gone thanks but see ya,i believe he will be proved right.

Or should I believe dave from twitter who thinks poch is a clueless dogshit cunt if he sells toby.

is that Dave666 or ctwDave from North Wales? doesn't matter they're probably both right, I really don't know what the fuck Poch has been playing at these last 3 seasons. Spurs finishing 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and beating Dortmund twice and Real Madrid, ha ha that's the funniest thing I've heard......we really should have got van Gaal.

What a bunch of utter wankers some of our 'fans' are.

Bentaleb is such a shame for me as I really think he could have been a top class layer if he was ready to learn from Poch and be a part of a team in the future, he was still so young when he left but thought he was the big dog. He could be up there with Dembele now in a team that gets regular CL footy but his ego means he's just a nobody at Shalke.

Both Stambouli and Bentaleb will be playing in the CL next year. Stambouli had a solid season playing as the right hand centre back in a back three. Bentaleb had an okay season, he played quite a lot more after that article. He needs to rein in his temper.

The weirdest thing about this with all the outcasts from this new pochettino era,is that the 2 who have had the best careers afterwards is Fazio and Paulinio, and i m still not sure how that has been possible!!

Often it is just that they couldn't cope with the different demands of either the team system, not quite fitting with the teammates around them as they did with their previous teammates or the coach but also there is the element of feeling comfortable in the environment outside of football as well. Roma have played a lot deeper line than Spurs and this was more similar to where Fazio played well when he was with Sevilla.
