I know we need to move on, the game has changed so much and we are building a new White Hart Lane, which we will fill with new memories. But as Glenn Hoddle once said 'Bill Nicholson is the foundations of this club' we each have our own favourite quotes and Bill 'stuff' and sometimes it's important to remember them when all around is not rosy...like after Liverpool on Saturday evening.

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have
set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

Although this quote has more recently and most likely been attributed to Danny Blanchflower

My favourite

"If you don't have to drag yourself off the field exhausted after 90 minutes, you can't claim to have done your best."

He is still everywhere at the club in picture, quote and spirit. I think Pochettino has a lot of Bill in him and that is being transferred to the players.

Post your own Bill stuff in here.

Not Bill Niicholson but same era...Happy Birthday to Jimmy Greaves, one of the finest players to ever grace White Hart Lane.

He's 77 today.

Lest we forget, one man's record:

Tottenham Hotspur (Sir Bill as player and manager)

Football League First Division
  • Champions: 1951, 1961
  • Runner-up: 1952, 1963
Football League Second Division
  • Winners: 1950
FA Cup
Football League Cup
FA Charity Shield
  • Winners: 1951, 1961, 1962
  • Shared: 1967
European Cup Winners' Cup
UEFA Cup
I think the earlier part of his record is even more impressive, joined as a ground staff boy in 1936, and with just a little break for the war and a short post-retirement advisory role at West Ham he was with us man and boy, literally, for over 65 years! Ground staff, Player, Manager, Consultant, Club President, God!

I have it on good authority that his and Darkie - his wife, ashes will be moved to a place where the old and new White Hart Lane overlap, which sounds like underneath the new South stand to me.
