They should never have been there FFS. I can see why the club wasn't particularly keen to let them go.

And in a big shock, both the Brazilians and the Argies are blaming each other.

Farcical.

Imagine being adults and making a joint decision to play it in a neutral venue, one that would allow for covid safe travel and quarantine. .. FML it's not like they both won't qualify anyway...

I suppose we can only hope they're both banned from the WC now...

Football, The global FA's, players, agents, managers, authorities and hangers on, are all generally corrupt and self serving. It's an increasing farce - highlighted by a World Cup in Qatar in 2022, that no-one wants to play in.

C'mon Brentford, you are the soul of Premier league football these days.

On a more or less related note, FIFA is now doing a feasibility study on having a World Cup every TWO years! Yes, that's right. Apparently someone, somewhere, wants more international football. If I were in charge I'd get rid of WC qualifying and base it solely on results of the continental championships. People might say that's not fair, but it's not fair that I have to endure so much shit football. It's shit like this that makes a Super League enticing. These clubs don't want to put up with FIFA anymore. Well that and boatloads of cash.

Well said.

Every two years? Fuck off.

I actually love the South America and especially CONCACAF qualifiers--shitty pitches, plumbing cut off to hotels, players getting hit by bags of piss while taking corners, goalkeepers getting contact highs from the stands in Jamaica, etc. It's so different than the sanitized stuff we're served up by the PL, Champions League, etc., that I look forward to it. Millionaire European based players getting kicked up in the air by guys from the El Salvadoran League is about the only pure thing left in professional football IMO.

Plus, I live in an area with a very large Mexican/Salvadoran/Honduran population, and I know how much these games mean to them. Same with the Argentinians and Colombians I know.

But to me that's exactly why the WC needs to be played every four years only--otherwise it's totally devalued.

Yes and in countries where there is a passion for the sport, rather than horse racing, power boats, cars, overt corruption, slavery and camel racing.

Indeed. And that's not even the worst of it.
