On the cusp of the beginning of the 24/25 season and my question is what do we expect?
We have bought well over the summer and our development squad has produced some exciting talent but what will this produce in the up and coming season? For me not a great deal more than a large number of exciting games that see us walking away from The Lane talking about how brilliant and entertaining we were on the day. I expect this scenario more often than not, but I don't expect to be celebrating silverware this season.
Ange's single minded approach to the game will be applauded by the neutrals, but for the die hard Spurs faithful I feel it will become yet another false dawn in terms of cup success. On paper the philosophy looks great, but in reality it is too demanding for a potential 50+ game campaign. Unless Ange eases up on this 90+ minute, "well that's the way we play mate" driving penetrating approach against every single team in the league then we will win nada! Its fantasy football, which will be fun, but don't expect much more!

I always tend to go in to every season expecting all the glory and all of the trophies but then reality tends to kick in fairly quickly :)

I think we're getting close to having a strong squad with good depth though. As you say, I do think we've bought well this summer so I think it'll come down to how Ange uses the squad for the early rounds of the cup games and Europa League because we're going to be playing a lot of matches this season.

I did read something a while back from someone who has followed Ange's career quite closely where they said that, quite often, the second season he's in charge tends to be "smoother" than the first because the players are up to speed with the way he trains and the way he plays so there are less injuries which is certainly something I'd like to see.

Obviously I'd be delighted if we could lift some silverware but I think if we're competitive and consistent and we can at the very least qualify for the Champions League for the 25/26 season then I'd take that.

I’m going to take the OP at face value and give them the benefit of the doubt that the sentiment is to genuinely assess expectations. However the post does appear very much as a veiled swipe at Postecoglou.

Anyway, my two cents is as follows:

1) I expect to be entertained. After all, that’s what it’s all about.

2) I expect to see plenty of minutes for Moore, Bergvall, Gray and Spence.

3) I expect a deep domestic cup run, semi final or better.

4) I expect to win the Europa League.

5) I expect to finish top 4.

1, 2 and 5 are absolutely non-negotiable. I would than take either of the others.

No swipe at your antipodean brother my friend, I love the man and his philosophy, I just do not think it's a philosophy that will see us lift silverware anytime soon unless the man "tweaks" his approach this campaign. I agree with number 1. I hope for number 2 and 3-5 is where we will fall short. But lets hope I'm wrong and you are right!

I genuinely expect fuck all...

That way I'm not disappointed...

I'll see how we're playing before I deliver any verdict and we can't be sure that whatever we have or haven't done to the squad will survive first contact...

I won't watch (I tell myself this all the time) if it's not entertaining, my time is worth more than a Cunté/That Cunt borefest.

I expect us to get scored against alot, but to maintain better control of games. We'll need to play considerably better than last season to get top 4. There are other teams that are gonna be amongst it this season.

Id like to see Ange show a bit of tactical nous late in games etc as the constant gung ho approach can only get us so far.

It will be a rollercoaster though I'm sure!!

Doubt we'll win anything but I'd love to see us have a crack at the FA Cup.

@Able13 Welcome to the forum! Post well and often!

i expect us to win the quadruple every year, because Bill said “It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. At Spurs we set our sights very high, so that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.”

Those echoes of failure keep me alive 😂😂😂😂😂

Welcome @Able13 My expectations are like many I think.. Entertain, excite, commit, and leave nothing on the pitch.
Hoping for top 4 and a Cup...
Probably top 6 and a semi...

That's semi final not just a semi. My semi's are my business.
Feeling cautiously optimistic though...

Expectations?

Next year will be my 60th year as a Spurs fan, my first visit to the Lane was in 1964, I was 8. 4 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 EUFA Cups and 1 relegation (that was a cunt).

Since 2008, fuck all, 16 years of hopes and dreams smashed into tiny pieces, so my expectations should be low, but they are not, they never are. Every fucking year I think that this will be the one, so I am planning to celebrate a cup treble and a return to the Champions League (even I'm not optimistic enough to expect us to win the League).

All I really want is exciting football, players giving 100% and way less faffing around in our own area with much less back and square passing. We saw some great, exciting football last year but we slipped back into our old ways, Posty will sort that out, Levy will fuck off, we will dare and do, glory days are back!

I'm a bit behind you Dorset, I've only been a Spurs fan (from 8) for 55 years. I hear what you say and I'm a little torn, I wrote on this thread I love AP's philosophy and seeing us play with a swagger that genuinely excites me. I can't wait for Monday night! But! Will it produce silverware, I'm not so sure for the reasons I mentioned in the original post. Then I ask myself what would I prefer to see? To bee excited by our football 80% of the time and win nothing execpt maybe CL qualification every other season or watch a more "tactical" unadventurous Spurs and pick up silverware every other season. I know things are not that simple, black and white, but if they were I'd know my answer! I support THFC for the purity and the glory of the game, I wanna go to The Lane and watch the equivalent of a ballet with a ball thrown in! Purity and glory for me is a 7 man move along the ground with players running off the ball to create space which allows the final outside of the boot pass to run perfectly into the path of the goal scorer! Purity and glory for me is a drop of the shoulder allowing the ball to run across you, leaving 2 opposition players in no man's land opening up the whole pitch ahead! Purity and glory for me is seeing a cross field 30 yard pin-point pass taken down in one touch! This is why I support Spurs. Anything beyond that is a bonusfor me.

Since were at it, I'm a bit of a puppy compared to you above as I've been a fan from afar for only 45+ years.
Other side of Planet Earth where we were a real rare breed.

It was the young Hoddle era. It's onset was from the depths of despair of relegation to the heights Ossie & Ricky's coup & Cup glory all within a span of a few short years. As I've said before, Spurs played with flair & it seemed as if they would rather win 5-4 than 1 nil. They produced excitement & made it entertaining & worthwhile spending your precious time watching.

My expectations are rather slightly muted. Ange's arrival & start to last season was liberating after the dross of the previous 4 seasons. The new style of play that Ange brought was enough to satisfy me. I expect no less than what was achieved in his first season. My expectations would have been higher if we had or if we still secure his desired signings. If not, the young ones brought on will provide some interest & elevated promise for the very near future.

It’s a bit strange at the club, because it certainly doesn’t feel like we’ve drastically improved the squad that finished 5th last season. But I was just watching Ange’s presser today and he gives off such good vibes that I feel pretty good about things.

Believe it or not, I’m actually really looking forward to being in the Europa League as well. It’s not the European competition we want, but we’ll be among the favorites.

Good post S&G, I agree completely. I think this season we will see some great football but will fall slightly short of achieving silverware whilst hopefully intergrating the youngsters into the Ange way, then 25/26 is when the promise will come to fruition and continue.

The one area I think we need to prepare for right now is Sonny.

He is still mustard we know that but he fell off a bit last season for maybe various reasons... But he is 32 and if we don't embed something resembling a replacement this year it could be too late for there to be a seamless transition.

It would also give us a chance to realise some value on Sonny if we find something that could succeed him...

It feels a bit bad taste talking about him in that way as he is almost undoubtedly a WHL legend... But it's a practical way to think.

I’ve been Spurs since 1961 when I was 7!

My Dad took me to my first game away to Leicester mid 60s where we won 1-0 with a John White special against a young Gordon Banks!

I'd been a massive football kid but never really affiliated with a team. Gazza and Lineker hooked me from the 1990 world cup, I loved watching them and seeing Gazza loose it, made me realise just how deep it had also got under my skin.

Later that year my old man forced me to sit down and watch his side Nottingham Forest prepare to win the FA cup final. As soon as I saw Gazza run out and knobble himself inside 10 mins, I was hooked as a Yido, especially after the way we won the game with Des Walker heading home on our behalf...

It also helped that as I went upto Highschool I was surrounded by Goons and I couldn't have that could I... Never been one to follow like a sheep.

Alas, my path was set for infrequent joy (very at the fucking minute) and plentiful disappointment.

87 for me, I was 9 years old.

I used to write to clubs asking for autographs using my panini sticker album for the address.

Spurs players always replied. Rest of the kids at school were manure, thought I would be different.

Little did I know heartbreak that year in the FA cup would prepare me well

FWIW I started following Spurs in 1981 as a 7 year old. I loved Garth Crooks and Steve Archibald. And Ossie.
The Cup final that year for me. I was 9. I remember Hoddles free kick and Tommy Hutchinson breaking out of the wall.
The replay the following Thursday was the day I officially fell in love. What a game that was...
My Dad surprised me the following year when he told me we were going off on the train for the day. It was August 82. We pulled up at Wembley Station and went to see us against Liverpool in the charity shield. I hadn't a clue. Even though we lost it was a day and a memory I'll never forget.
Still have the programme and the tickets too.
Have no idea why I said all that but there you go.
Nice to read everyone's posts tbh..

When Ricky scored that winner I was doing a Garth Crooks and kicking an imaginary ball in the lounge!
