Happy 83rd birthday to the greatest manager , so far, in my lifetime . The period 81-84 when he won us cups and got to finals all whilst fighting the board ( somethings never change. Yes he made mistakes , allowing Jennings go , and to that mob and for 45k and using Barry Daines , but the maestro then in 78 he bought over Ricky and Ossie and developed one the best teams with Glenn, Roberts Archibald etc .
Now the main question is , why was he called The General ?? And did this title come before or after the cup song ??? Over to you @skiathos

Micky Hazard told me "probably from the song" so it wasnt a nick name at the club,if paul miller answers then he will for sure know definatly.
