Rodon, who eventually signed a five-year deal with the club, will initially learn his trade in the Premier League alongside Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, but there is real hope that he will eventually challenge to become a key man along with Japhet Tanganga, who is currently struggling with injuries.

One downside for the Welshman is that he will not be able to play in the Europa League group stage matches as he was signed after last week's registration deadline. That competition would have been an ideal place to get him early game time.

If Spurs progress to the knockout stages a decision will have to be made if Rodon is to be included because, as with Davies, he does not qualify as homegrown due to Swansea's affiliation with the Welsh FA

Joe Rodon on how Jose Mourinho made him tougher and his first season at Spurs

The young Wales defender has had a season of adapting at Tottenham Hotspur since making his Premier League debut

"I felt he did it with me for a reason,” Rodon said when asked about Mourinho’s approach with him ahead of Wales’ friendly in France on Wednesday.

"It’s been a tough year, ups and downs, but I thought he handled me very well. It’s made me way better, mentally as well, and it’s going to benefit you moving forward.
"Everyone wants to play games of course, but sometimes it doesn’t go that way. You have to pick yourself up, keep going and hopefully get your rewards at the end of it."

Rodon believes that training daily with the likes of Harry Kane, his Wales captain Gareth Bale and Son Heung-min will help him this summer at the Euros, starting with trying to tackling a France forward line in this week's warm-up friendly that could contain Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann.

"Every player would like to play more minutes, but I got to train every day and work hard with some top players. It’s been a great eight months experience for me training with the Tottenham players," he said.
“Training with top players only makes yourself better as a player individually.
“Harry is one of the best strikers in the world, but it’s not just Harry, there’s a lot of good players in that Tottenham squad.
“Going into that environment would improve any player and it was great to get a feel of that."
