This signing could go one of two ways……

Let’s hope it’s one that brings the player success

I'd need someone to Tel me if this is a good signing or not... Never heard of the kid.

Got this from a mate in Germany who is a Bayern fan;

“Hi mate, Congratulations on Mathys Tel. He will be a great addition and you will have fun watching him.”

Can only imagine the commentator wordplay. But for us Yids, I feel like there's more we can do with his given name: Messiah Tel? Don't want to lay too much on another teenager, but we do need a saviour of some sort.

Bit of a unique setup as we are taking a risk given he may not wish to stay after this summer.
Usually these deals are unilateral & left in the hands of the buying club as to whether they will take up the option to buy.
Player has already agreed to the terms of the contract.
Nevertheless, I have faith in Ange to sort it out.

Indeed. Spent all that time on the transfer and persuading the player to come and then sorting out the purchase clause on top of everything only to play him out of position and stick him back on the bench in favour of a woefully out of form Sonny.

He hasn't really shown much to warrant such a fee.
Then again, he's hasn't been played in his preferred position which must be frustrating when you want to prove yourself.

Having said that, & someone on this forum can chime in, those that have watched plenty of Bayern matches say that "he isn't really that good". Not my words. Just reiterating what I've been told.

They were saying on the VFTL podcast that due to Muller's retirement, Musiala's injury, and some other factors, he might have to actually go back to Bayern for this club world cup clusterfuck this summer. But that wouldn't mean they want to keep him of course.

Hey fellas! Not happy about this signing at all. I’m happy to eat my words but of the games I watched him play last season, admittedly not that many of them, I thought he looked distinctly average.

We keep making these types of signings, £30 mill is still a lot money, for a guy that really doesn’t look that great. I know he’s young and has time on his side but it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gonna get better. I think he’s incredibly raw, and the money could’ve been spent in better ways. 🤷‍♂️

Why are we spending all that money on Tel ? Why ? What's the justification ? Cos I don't see it.

Probably because we can knock it off the money owed for HK right...? There will be some bullshit money saving reason why we decided to go through with signing this kid that's based on the financial benefits, despite the fact he demonstrated that he was far from the standard required to make a difference in our squad.

He is young so his value won't necessarily plummet if he has a bad season or two and Budasleaga teams will maybe still want to take a punt on him if he does fail, so we could send him back.

There are a lot of people who probably know a lot more about things than I do who are extremely enthusiastic about Tel's signing and the fact he'll be working with Frank and his team.

A front three of Tel, Solanke and Odobert has been frequently mentioned which does sound quite exciting.

Personally I do think part of the reason he's been signed is that he's slotted in to the squad very well in a short space of time.

We'll see I suppose. I do think he's got lots of potential and if Sonny does indeed move on and he gets a run in the team on the left hand side then we could really see what he can do.

There's a reason Bayern had no interest in keeping him. This was way too much money to pay for a player who might not be anything better than slightly above average. Hope I am wrong.

I think it's a little early to judge him. Still young and only been here a few months. Frank apparently approved the transfer and he seems a far better option then Werner! However it is fair to say he is a working progress and we need players that can deliver now. Mbeumo and Eze would be nice.
