I like the Olympics, a great chance to watch some sports I wouldn't normally bother with and some proper boxing. I like proper boxing, not the bollox showbiz fighting that seems popular these days. I remember the first time I went to a bout and it was all lights, tinsel, music and all that old bollocks, I was not happy. I think it was Benn vs Watson at Finsbury park in 1989, it might not have been, but it probably was, maybe? I used to go to all the Benn, Eubank, Watson matches, when I first started following Nigel Benn it was at Crystal Palace, no light shows, no music, no tinslelly shorts - just boxing. Oh, the good old days! I did go to the Bugner v Bruno circus at the Lane in 1987, I don't remember too much about that I was with some bad men who forced me to drink too much gin, that was probably a bit gltzy, who knows? It would have been crap because .. Joe Bugner. My bestest boxing trips used to be to the ABAs at the Albert Hall.
Anyway, the Olympics. Luckily I didn't watch the opening ceremony live last night, I whizzed through it on iPlayer this morning, it was tacky as fuck, OK, the lasers were good, the 'horse' running on the river and the floating, burning piano bit was OK, but the rest of it was pony. Women's volleyball this arvo at 18:00 will be the highlight of today for me, I enjoy watching the skill of the players (yeah right, believe that and you'll believe anything),I'm looking forward to boxing, cycling, skateboarding (that was well good last time),bmx likewise, taekwondo, shooting, diving, rugby, athletics and other sports, I won't bother with the swimming or horsey crap, you can poke badminton, tennis, basketball (netball innit?) somewhere dark and wet. Breaking? Are you taking the piss? Fucking break dancing in the Olympics?
