I think on reflection the Spammers are a better side than I wanted to admit they were... They had a game plan to pack the final 3rd on turnover if the ball and hit us on the break and from set pieces... They pretty much did that and shut us out.
There's still bits missing for us though you can see that there needs to be something else for it to click... If Maddison has a bad game there's not anyone else really offering a creative spark in the side... Yes, the speed merchants are still there to cause havoc against their fullbacks and cutting in, but that pass to unleash a forward is missing. I also noticed that Maddison seemed to be insanely deep at times... Bentancur and Biss both way more adviced than him... Yeah maybe a couple of times to keep the opposition on their toes... But I think he wasn't getting the ball enough so went looking for it... We can't have that, he needs to be up the pitch as it drags the whole team further up.
A point is a point but as someone said we've got some seriously tough games where those types of performances will yield nothing but a spanking from decent sides.
What I'm saying is if the Spammers can do that to us, The teams above and around us can do way worse.
Maddison does that a lot, too much for my taste.
Overall, I thought we had some good passages of play, tidy passing, and several times were inches from breaking them down with that final pass. As I said during the game, I felt like Sonny especially needed to have a crack when offered the chance, because everything closed down so quickly.
A bit surprised Ange didn't chuck Richarlison on earlier, as he might have provided a plan B. Ultimately, the Spammers are eighth or whatever for a reason. Thought Mickey's pace was very important in making it difficult for them to break.
