The Levy conundrum

The problem with Levy is he is re-active and not pro-active . When we got to the Champions League final we got £178mil for our involvement in the competition . Following that success , instead of being pro-active and going out and buying another £70mil striker , Levy went 3 windows without buying a single player . Whereas Liverpool went out and bought players to maintain their progress . Look at Liverpool now and look at us . the chasm between us is colossal . Now we are in a spot of bother points wise - Levy is re-active and opens the purse and buys players . If Levy was pro-active - "a bit of a gambler" , he could have gone out and spent that £178mil on a few players to have another tilt at the title and CL the following year . Instead he waits until we are in a desperate situation before he spends any money
Don't get me wrong Levy should be kept on as chairman by the new owners to generate money for the club - something he's brilliant at . But the football side of things should be dealt with by someone that knows a lot more about football matters . We are a big club , we have just lost our way a bit because we haven't had the right people dealing with the footballing side of things . This is just my take on things , but Levy made a very shrewd decision to involve Fabio Paratici to bring in players for a complete rebuild of the squad . Paratici brought in a lot of young promising players as well as a few established players to the squad . We had a complete clear-out of the existing squad and the results were obviously good . Then Paratici got in trouble with the football police and got banned , so now we have Yohan Lange in charge of future purchases for the squad , and Paratici just as an advisor to the club . Scott Munn was supposed to take over from Levy as chief football officer , but he's just a name and nothing else , Levy is still balls deep in every bit of business . The big question is can Levy be told by the new owners that he can't have anymore involvement in the player/signing side of things ? I don't think he could bear to be told he can't have a say in the matters...............Thoughts

Levy came out and stated that any sale would be predicated on him retaining control as chairman... As a steward for the club...!!!

I can't envision a time when he isn't pinching pennies at THFC.

Saudi money is absolutely as bad as it gets, it's the most tainted if all of the Arab states and that's a seriously low bar...

Spurs and football is dead at the top level, it's just business and branding and cash flows...

Agreed - The days of the good honest football clubs are gone , and the new benefactor football has come to town . As much as I hate it , I accept that if you want to compete with the big fish you have to become a big fish . Chavs started it in the PL with Abramovic . But big benefactors goes back a long way before that . Barcelona and Real Madrid were the big fish whilst every other club would lose their best players to them should they come knocking .They're still doing it now , they've come sniffing around for Romero . I hate the fact that we'll end up selling our clubs spirit for a slice of glory , but how else are we to become competition for clubs with a Nations state wealth . We try to drive down salaries only for the big fish to offer ludicrous wages to join their clubs . I know we've heard it a thousand times but "If you can't beat them , join them".

Its getting worse. Even the gap between the Championship and the Premier league is massive now. It looks like it's going to be back to back same 3 go down as came up. Says alot.
Anyway, we won't be talking too much about the PL in the future as the European Super League is only round the corner. The CL is already morphing into it before our eyes. Hiding in plain sight.
And THATS what the likes of Levy really wants. My guess is, he won't even contemplate selling his shares until that's done and he reaps the financial rewards, which will dwarf the PL's.
We'll probably end up with a second string playing on a Saturday and a first choice playing PSG in the ESL on the Wednesday. The rich get richer lads. The season ticket holder is less and less important and the tourist is king.

Anyway, I've gone on one....basically Levy's a cunt.

Nearly forgot that bit....

Yes I thought that , the new formats for the CL and EL - teams playing 8 games instead of 6 , in a league of sorts instead of group stages , with the best going through automatically , and the sixteen next best playing each other in play offs . There are no dead rubber games , and dog eat dog from the get-go . I think it's more entertaining for supporters that have travelled overseas to watch games . Not sure why there would be a second string team though ?

I mentioned a second string because I genuinely believe once the Super League becomes a reality it will automatically diminish the Premier league and every other domestic league in Europe because the top clubs in each country will prioritise the Super League as a result of financial rewards and so they'll put their strongest side out where the rewards are greater.
Its a sad thought but there ya go. I sincerely hope I'm wrong though.

I got it now - playing the fringe players in the league games and using the best 11 for the ESL . That would be a crying shame but a real outcome should the ESL exist .

And this shows every sign of getting worse--the point totals relegated teams get now aren't even close to what they used to get (barring some one-off horrible teams like Derby or Sunderland in the 2000s.) I know quite a few supporters of Championship sides that would honestly prefer they just stayed in that division rather than coming up to the PL to get swatted around, probably sack the manager, and lose any good will from the season before.
