Transfer watch summer 2019

Just watching the Sunday Supplement on Sky and been chatting the topic of our transfer policy and our lack of action in the market.

Was interesting to hear that one of the journos believed that last Summer there was as much as £100 million available for transfers, but there was a disconnect between Levy and Poch with regards to which players the club wanted or needed. So the conclusion was that it’s not so much that there isn’t the money available but more to do with a problem of identifying the players that will take us to the next step. Seems to me they were suggesting that Levy doesn’t necessarily trust Poch with the money, which in fairness he has a small argument in that respect, N’Jie, N’Koudou, Janssen have all been failures but all managers over a 4 year period will never get their transfers 100% right, even Fergie bought some absolute stinkers. It’s fairly clear that Levy and Poch have very different ideas about what the club needs, which is ridiculous! What concerns me the most is that we were linked with players last Summer N’Dombele and Jack Brooks who we could’ve potentially got for around £30-40 mill combined and now combined are worth probably well over £100 mill, Levy needs to stop interfering and give Poch a sizeable war chest and let him go and buy whoever he wants and pay the money, stop pissing around with trying to save a few quid and let Poch buy the players Poch wants.

I think we can all agree Levy’s been great at balancing the books but it’s time to gamble or otherwise we’ll just likely continue to be the bridesmaids, which would be a crime in itself.

Who has been our best signing in the last 5 years and who was the source? Dele? Son? Eriksen? Sanchez? Foyth?

Between the 1st 3 really sanchez&foyth still too fresh and young to assess IMO.I would go for Dele, purely because of the value of his transfer and his worth now, tough though because eriksen&son are incredibly important to the team and fabulous players even though Eriksen has been off it lately, over time he has been sensational, quietly so because he is also such a hard worker and integral to our pressing. And Sonny is really close to be an improved Bale V2.0.

As @skiathospurs said, the first 3 have been exceptional purchases, a combined total of around £35 million, the same fee the Chavs paid for Danny Drinkwater!! Source wise no idea who actually identified them, Eriksen obviously bought with the Bale money and was likely on many a club’s radar, not sure if AVB really pushed for or whether the Scouts said we must have him. Alli likely scouted big time, similarly was likely on a few of the big boys radar, again don’t know who said we must have him and reckon Sonny was very much a Poch buy.

Dont take it personally this rant isnt aimed at you !! but I dont believe a word them lying cunts utter (journos on sky). They dont know jack shit, they dont know what poch&levy discuss in private, they just make it up for clicks.Thats in relation to the £100m poch wouldnt spend. There is a committee for transfers of 4 people I believe,Poch,Levy,Hitchin and McDermott, its not merely Poch decides between him&Levy.I believe and i say that the same way those guys do (knowing fuck all in truth but guessing),Levy is more the problem, not accepting losses on janssen,Nkoudou (sissoko before that if rumours of him leaving were true?),trouble is we have too many foreigners in our allowed squads,so we couldnt even register foyth for CL and Janssen for PL.Those elusive home grown players every club is after even city (why they paid silly for walker, still have delph) has made bang average players too expensive to take a punt on.How much for Zaha??silly money, how much for Brooks??silly money i am not doubting his talent, but its so early in his career upwards of 50million ridiculous. But he does indeed look like a player we would love, but big money big risk.Problem is we need to lose janssen and nkoudou possibly wanyama if his knees are shot, to make space for signings not just in creating funds.

In a way Poch is right to hold fast, malcolm, the other dembele, rabiot, batshitguy they might have got game time vs palace in the cup but in the league they arent going to shift who we have playing now.Dembele going before the cup,pah not the best choice IMO but,Skipp is close, winks is there,I am even of the mind to do a complete U turn and give llorente another year,to allow Parrott or sterling to come in,and i dont even really rate him.But he isnt rocking the boat,is useful in kane`s abscence, which is really the only time he plays.

Strange days, basically I`ll just go with whatever Poch thinks is best.

When in doubt you know who claims he found them

BTW it was david pleat who scouted Dele for us,some other teams were interested liverpool mentioned among them but pleat really pushed for him after watching him for MKdons.

Don’t know, I thought he was a good signing having been behind the famous Saints ‘Black box’ with Les Read who kept unearthing great players for no money. That seems to have stopped now and I think Mitchell went to United or somewhere else reasonable after us.

Yeah mate, i agree they write a lot of clickbait shite, however there are 2 or 3 that i would tend to believe in. Largely the broadsheet journos, Winter, Northcroft are a couple who's opinions i would respect. I think it's fair to say that things like that do get leaked and people within clubs do talk off the record to journos. Information about money available and potential transfer targets are known by a few others within the framework of a club than just a transfer committee, but you're absolutely right, it's nigh on impossible to distinguish between the truth and complete garbage.

With regards to David Brooks, he fits exactly the profile of players we're after, Bournemouth bought him for only £10 mill last Summer. from what i remember he was heavily scouted by us last season but yet why did we not go in for him, apparently he was seen as a gamble and not worth spending the money on at the time, coz he was deemed not good enough for us at this time but we have one of the best coaches in world football, the mind boggles. Now because of our hesitancy, if we do go in for him, then we could potentially have to shell out £50 mill which is ridiculous. What concerns me, is clubs being wary of dealing with Levy and that's having a negative effect on our dealings. Anyway whatever, it's all hearsay but this Summer is pivotal for us going forward, we can't afford to sit on our backsides.

He is at RB leipzig, being spoken of as possibly to united, perhaps to do with the BS Poch links.TBH what came in during his time was dele, trippier, toby, some french N`type players, gazzanigga etc,not really unearthed any unknown gems,3 players from saints with wanyama, dele scouted by Pleat and trippier was playing well for burnley.,and sissoko was hardly unknown too.Southampton was more about the youth they produced rather than signings, whether he has some gems to come through?shilow tracey from ebbsfleet was a kid we chased, maddison we turned down or missed out on??parrott I think was after mitchell left or his goodbye gift?

So to summarise;

Do you know what? Even I’m bored with these questions and Poch’s answers now......he must be sooooo fed up with answering non sensical questions. Anyone of us could think of something more interesting

I’m increasingly thinking we’ll need a new No. 23, it’s all gone very quiet on that front and he’s chief puppeteer.

I'd be happy with brooks, Bowen ,Grealish or Madisson.

Think all of them would be happy with a spot on the bench and thrive on a oppurtunity once it comes along

Broadly speaking, some big squad rebuilds are going to happen this summer, new managers and some completing their 1st season.Chelsea may well have a clear out if Sarri stays,hazard,willian,moses,morata,drinkwater,bakayoko,cahill,huson-odoi all probably heading for the door, that will free up funds for a striker, attacking midfielders and a defender or two.Arsenal losing Cech and Ramsey for nothing will hurt.they could almost blow their entire transfer budget replacing like for like, and still leaves them looking for 3 or 4 defenders,a winger or two and replacing ozil who I cant see anyone signing on those wages, not even china.Man utd new manager, needing full backs, midfield to replace fellaini and mata,CBs are a mess.City and liverpool will probably swoop up a couple of new signings, liverpool still need another one or two CBs,a full back to replace Clyne (weird, why would you loan him out and play winjaldum/milner at RB??) and god knows what spurs will be after??

We still have nkoudou,janssen,vorm,3 or 4 academy players who really arent coming back into the team from loans to move on.Surely if wanyama doesnt recover his form a central midfielder?if Llorente goes another striker.A lot will depend if toby and eriksen are prised from our "over my dead body" and how those funds would be used,25m for tobys release and eriksen 100m+ ?? 125m would give a lot of choice to mini rebuild to ease the pain of losing 2 superb players should it happen. The 11m for dembele, money for janssen, nkoudou, onomah, edwards,CCV is chump change compared to Eriksen`s fee alone.
Then its down to is poch happy with moura, aurier, lamela`s in/out season.

That’s good enough at a squad level, but not the difference if you want to win a league title?

The kid has always mad my skin crawl, but I am coming around to the idea of Rabiot, only because it fits so nicely for the summer. Say we don't do any rebuild. We keep Eriksen and Lamela and convince Toby (maybe throw in a kicker bonus) to say for the year. Sell the above mentioned Janssen, Vorm, Wanyama?,whoever, whoever. Sign one or two young English players, promote a young English keeper to thrid string, and then plunk down a fat juicy contract to Rabiot and convince him we aren't in League 1 anymore. That one move changes the whole squad. We would shape out like this:

Keeper:
Lloris, Gazzanigga, English kid

Defense:
Toby, Jan, Davison, Foyth, Rose, Aurier, Tripps

Central Mid:
Winks, Sissoko, Rabiot, Dier

Attacking Mid:
Eriksen, Alli, Son, Moura

Forwards:
Kane, Llorente (or other living person)

That is a pretty dang strong squad. And there we would accomplish it while keeping a net positive transfer balance. Sure the wages for Rabiot would hurt, but pain is good sometimes. A potneital starting lineup.

------------------Lloris------------------
Tripps----Toby--------Jan--------Rose
--------Winks---------Rabiot----------
Son--------------Alli-------------Eriksen
------------------Kane---------------------

Moura, Sissoko, and/or Dier/Lamela the subs on the bench. Sure right back is still a bit weak but we know Levy will only do so much. That could be a title-winning side, built with limited financial investment. Levy special if I ever saw one. DO IT!

I do think a young engish 3rd choice keeper is what the squad needs regards "home grown" numbers. Also there is KWP who I think will stay cos a 3rd RB come wing back is a versatility we can use and also Skipp,is here to stay in midfield at least for a year or two to see what he could be.Neither big part next season but in terms of squad some more depth, and more home grown allowance!!especially if we rotate for domestic cups a tad.

Problem is , the first eleven is very strong and I think we would be good enough to win the league with a stronger bench. Even though we have Llorente , when Kane is injured I don't see hunger to achieve and have that attitude of "I'm going to make sure Kane doesn't waltz straight back into the team". I think the younger boys from championship can offer that.

Regarding signings to go straight into the first team, I'm very reserved on who we could 1) afford 2) accept that rotation will need to happen

Whatever happened to Ryan Sessegnon ??best new player in the world last year, hardly done anything to get a mention this year, did we dodge a bullet not signing him or just badly used by fulham/developed with the management changes??Coming up to 18mths left on his contract, anyone still think its worth a punt?Next Bale or the Fulham Hutton??

If Fulham go down i`d be sure he was leaving,18 mths left now, they will sell him cant afford to lose him on a free or tribunal fee(cos of his age and development costs). He looked staggering, now he`s hardly getting a start and getting mentions. Not sure with us having 2 or 3 options each side as fullback whether we would have a dip on him?

If we keep Rose then I think Sessengnon is better than Davies. I like KWP at Right back plus any other upgrade on Tripps (who may re discover his form next season) and Aurier, who I think Poch now considers a potential liability mentally?

yeah but Davies worth in also playing CB is more than handy. He is a bit unexciting but davies is a good steady eddie.Yeah I am not sure about aurier, serge by name not serge by style of play.
