Talented Irish teenager Troy Parrott has received a significant boost after getting the call to travel with the Spurs first team to this evening's Premier League meeting with Leicester, writes Daniel McDonnell.

The 16-year-old has been promoted to Mauricio Pochettino's first team squad after making a strong impression since moving over to England in the summer.
He is not expected to make the bench but the fact that Parrott (right) has been brought along at such a young age illustrates the esteem in which he is held.
Parrott has played a number of games for the Spurs U-23 side and has been in goalscoring form at U-18 level, bagging a brace against Leicester earlier this week to bring his tally for this season to 11 when UEFA Youth League games are factored into the equation.
He has already trained with the Spurs first team, but a trip away with them is a step up the food chain for a player who doesn't turn 17 until February.
Parrott is represented by Unique Sports Management, the same agency as Spurs' striking star Harry Kane.
The Dubliner was Ireland's star player at the U-17 European Championships last May and is still eligible for next year's renewal which is being hosted in Ireland.
However, he has already been promoted to U-19 international level and scored four goals in October to steer them through the first phase of Euros qualifying.
Martin O'Neill gave Parrott a favourable mention in dispatches before his departure from the senior job and new U-21 boss Stephen Kenny - the senior boss from 2020 - spoke positively about Parrott when he was appointed.
The rising star is on the shortlist for the Irish Independent Young Sportstar of the Year award.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino explained why highly-rated 16-year-old Irish striker Troy Parrott travelled with the squad to their match at Leicester City.

Parrott arrived with the squad at the King Power Stadium as the 19th man - a player who would come into the 18 in case of injury or illness to others on the matchday. There was no spot for 33-year-old former Spain international Fernando Llorente in the travelling squad.

Parrott has been impressing for the club's youth sides, his most recent goal a great curling strike against Inter Milan in the UEFA Youth League a week ago.

The Irishman has been training with the first team at times this season and was picked out by Martin O'Neill during his last few months as Ireland manager as a likely senior international in the near future. He has been labelled back home in Ireland as 'the next Robbie Keane', following in the footsteps of the former Spurs and Ireland striker.

Another young Tottenham academy product, 18-year-old Oliver Skipp, was on the bench for his second consecutive match, having made his Premier League debut in the 3-1 victory against Southampton.

When answering a question about whether Kyle Walker-Peters could be thrown into the Champions League crunch tie at Barcelona on Tuesday night after Serge Aurier's injury, Pochettino referenced both Parrott and Skipp.

"I think he's ready to play. All the players that we have in the squad, the younger ones like Oliver Skipp or Troy Parrott, who was involved today for the first time, it's because they're involved in the first team during days, during weeks, during months, and it's only to give the possibility to play," he said.

"I don't doubt them and I am not worried about players who are injured or don't perform in their best, because we have another who can replace them. I promise we are going to win or lose with one or another."

So the under 19’s beat Barca 0-2 and Parrott Scored . Perhaps he needs to be on the bench over Xmas , remember George Best was 16/ 17 when he made his debut , if you’re good enough age doesn’t matter

Only 15 and can't sign a contract until 16, and Brexit could feck it up. How Spursy would that be of he turned out to be a world class superstar but we missed out on him because of Brexit. I think Dorset would explode.
fear not

Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane could appreciate on Tuesday the nonchalance with which the now 16-year-old has as his hallmark.
He signed for us last year.
