I have no answers, who will we sign?who will move on,what will or where will Poch turn to??

My only wise words of wisdom after a disappointing end to the Champions league final defeat,is we have arrived here and now believe, and after reaching the biggest club final in football,I hope that within the club (not just us deluded, overly optimistic fans),we now have expectation.Expectation that we should win competitions,be reaching the top,we dont need to fall back from here, this wasnt the pinnacle. The players/coaches should have learnt so much from getting this far and dealing with the enormous pressure heaped upon them.

This time next year hopefully we will have silverware for the new stadium, might not be champions league, but this club should now expect to win things.

Nail on head. When Poch arrived we were a Europa League team, now a Champions League team. We need to keep building, onwards and upwards. Cast your eye around Europe and see who’ve bettered. Many objectives and projects have been realised this season, time to go up another level, hope Levy and the board are on the same page.

For once I’m happy with the two midfield players we’re getting linked with both improvements especially if eriksen is fucking off.i do worry next season expectations will be to high I think with a few going out and coming out it will take a little time to adjust and in this league that can quickly put you behind the rest

This time last year after losing the final a team went out&bought 2 players,a keeper and CB.Thats the difference buying in the areas you are short on.That begs the question is it so obvious what we need to upgrade?
If it is 2 players or positions to bring better starters in for me its RB and CM.

I agree but don’t know enough about the mechanics of the team and squad, or who is available, for how much.

I assume Poch and his team do and also know what’s likely to happen with the existing players. We need a bit of freshening up and some energy, some of that will come from a ‘proper’ Summer break, Although our guys have missed 3 weeks and have the England game on Thursday.

Interesting 8 weeks coming up, think the transfer window closes before 1 st game of the season?

BTW those two players cost £160m
It would be great for 2021/22 if we sign sessegnon,or that leeds or hull lad,but others will go and spend money on chilwell,or maguire, young and ready to start making a difference straight away.Bissaka looks ready and great, but would we stump up the big bucks of say £65m to make it impossible to refuse? If we are selling 2 of the 3 current KWP,trippier&aurier, thats half the dosh.If we sign and i guess @Thfcire is talking about Lo Celso and or Ndombele. Celso is an eriksen replacement really?that would give us more money than we would spend (celso for eriksen),and If Ndombele costs £90m I can pull in for Nkoudou, onomah, janssen,CCV, (and the 10 million for dembele) half that fee.So even not selling eriksen and netting 20-40m in his replacement, our net spend with those out goings would be £70m.That is not outrageous on the CL,TV money, extra revenue from the new stadium and is conservative versus our immediate peers, but hell its do able.I havent even culled lamela, llorente, sold toby,edwards,..

Add in the increase in what we can now ask for naming rights.... getting to that final pushes us up the money tree.

We have to capitalise and consolidate our position as one of Europes top clubs. Not just top 4 prem, not just making up the numbers like the Scum did for a decade, we have to get this team a trophy next year and push some big established names around like the jumped up little pricks of Europe that we are.

To do all of the above we have to be able to compete in the league consistently, strongly in the cups as well as playing like fucking heroes in the CL.

We have to deepen the squad with quality so replacing the lads we're going to loose is not enough.

We need this academy to churn out some quality, we need to invest in the "sessegnon or that leeds or hull lad" and buy serious quality replacements (or dare I say it upgrades) for the ones we're going to be loosing.

We also have to start paying the going rate to keep the current crop happy. That is almost as important as signing lads to kick the ball about.

Where I think we go from here is forwards... but this is firmly in the hands of one man who simply has to push the button and give Poch what he wants to take us that next step.

Will he throw away the reigns and do what he has only ever done once?

Remmeber the Bale money and the magnificent 7 and what happened next? Levy will remember and bot fondly.

In Levy we trust..........

We’re all avoiding the ‘elephant in the room’ not Janssen - Stadium repayments and how much of a drain they are.

I really hope that we don’t become Woolwich 2 and have a great stadium but can’t afford the team to play in it. Absolute cost for players is one thing, wages will also be a factor.

The naming rights is a biggie that will help, I guess Levy has been shrewd not revealing that too early as @Yid says the CL will add a few quid.

This Summer is massive, can’t be over stated, first signing needs to be Poch and a guarantee of absolute backing. His relationship with Levy is crucial to the ‘new project’

Spot on,Levy has to recognise the time is now,the right signings should be enough to shut out arse and man u from overtaking us and guarantee CL as the least of our aims. That means more revenue is available, there is nothing to be afraid of here financially, the worry is if we dont do it now and allow others to scramble and overtake us again. That would be criminal from where we are at.,and is the real financial gamble.
We have surely reached a stature now where even our top players should expect or wish more quality to compete within the squad and be upset if we dont back it up.

40k watching us on a thursday vs Parsnip pickers FC @£25 a ticket or 62k at £70 to watch us play barca, juve, dortmund, the prize money, extra sponsorship, match day revenue, its all there if we dont toss it away trying to do it on the cheap.

Exactly.....I’m not going to say this out loud, so I’ll whisper it instead...we got a bit lucky in the CL and PL this season, injuries and everything else didn’t help, but we need to use that luck to our advantage. We won’t get it again in a rush. I think Poch and Levy know that.

No signings,no home, arsenal and man utd missed a trick regards the PL,basically they both blew it,that was the luck on our part. But you are right,I cant see arsenal or united catching us because A) arsenal wont spend and what they have left is poor after losing 3 players for nothing (cech, ramsey, welbeck) and united I just cant see ole at the wheel doing anything except hitting the wall even if they lash out £100m,they are still a mess even if its £200m,smalling,jones,bailly,lindelof,valencia,young you would spend more than that just to replace that shower of shite defence..
All that just if we do our job,and that means a bit more spent on the team,if we can keep just those 2 teams under our thumb (this is the minimum example just to keep CL money rolling to pay down the stadium etc),more money for us,less for them, probable managerial rumblings/changes again, and the circle we endured in the 90s will have shifted elsewhere, and we know how hard it is to get out from under foot.

If we sign some of the players we have been linked to so far, we will be building a good team. Being able to play Sissoko and Winks in a rotation and having a choice of midfield players with different attritbutes and thus having some more variety in how we progress the ball would make a huge difference.

I have put a swiss ramble thread here

from european competitions Spurs earned £90m and arse £32m.That justifies spending £60m more to keep it up,we have been on the wrong end of the rich get richer cycle for 20 years, lets see how others like it now and manage it.

One thing Levy has to adapt to now,is a change in how he approaches transfers with his strategy.Previously we have had to sell before we buy, even at the cost of missing out on targets.Where we are now means the right player in the right area isnt going to be plentiful, especially as Poch is pretty specific about a players personality as well.If Levy persists in waiting too long before moving A) the player misses pre-season which under poch means you start playing in the autumn B) as I said someone else moves first and signs a target of ours C) if we are talking to a player,he must wonder how committed we are to wanting him.
I am sure Levy regards the best selling price for outgoings as utmost importance,do we feel if sell two right backs after signing an obvious starter that clubs wont offer as much?but selling 2 right backs and then approaching a club to buy one they know we are over a barrel and can ask more?
We have almost been doing transfers by Ebay, make an offer stupidly low, then improve it,then go again, after that I would guess If i was a chairman,I`d say "tell him I`m not here".We dont need to go all nation state cheque book, but we do need to stop insulting other clubs with how difficult we are to deal with, time to start acting like a club valued in the billions and not like a shopper in the Aldi center aisle, wanting to buy steak and going home with a pressure washer.

Ndombele must be a cert to join us,the shirt printers must have a pile of N`s after us signing and never using Njie,Nkoudou, also we can probably get rid of any dembele shirts in stock with some creative craft knife work..

This is the sort of thing if true I meant. If this bloke is the right player, pay the money,i doubt liverpool wanted to spend £75m on VVD or more on Alisson, but the right player in the area you need,is the trick. And if this bloke is in because eriksen is going, that is a massive net saving financially, cos eriksen wont be going for £70m and under.

Giovani Lo Celso's representatives have agreed with Real Betis the midfielder can leave for £70M whilst the initial bid from #thfc was worth £50M rising to £62M in add-ons. [Daily Mirror]

I have no doubt we could improve the team with a World Class RB and World Class CM. This is no surprise given we sold Walker and Dembele and didn't adequately replace them, as well as our understudies for those positions deteriorating instead of improving.

The problem remains though, are these genuinely the two areas we need to target most? Do we need to target more?

I am really concerned with the defence of the team in general, as well as the tactics going forward. It was clear why Liverpool lost the Champions League last season due to errors from Karius and poor defence all season.

My problem with comparing that is, our error was from Sissoko, indirectly because of Trippier, and then our other error was from Vertonghen, mainly because of an injury and again no one else covering or clearing or recognising danger without someone pointing who shouldn't need to.

Perhaps a CM and a RB covers those issues, but I am not entirely certain it does. We have also had multiple individual errors from multiple players in the back four, or three, as well as lack of cover in deep midfield regardless of who plays or formation.

The two positions are certainly worth pursuing wholeheartedly but it pains me for a few reasons. The first obviously being, selling Walker and Dembele without replacements was clearly a terrible idea and has compounded even more-so. The second being, will we even spend £75m going after two positions? The third being, even if we spend £75m improving both positions, will they be the best in the world? And finally, if they are the best in the world, will it be enough?

Liverpool had these questions too as it was unclear whether one player would make such a difference to their defence. I guess the main issue I am struggling with is GK and CB are core and obvious positions of the team to struggle in, whereas RB and CM are not necessarily the spine of the team, especially if we buy the wrong type of central midfielder which is very possible. For example, attacking instead of defensive.

I will appreciate all signings, but I am not certain the ones we are linked with are the right ones or the priority ones, or world class enough. I am willing to be wrong about that and recognise we need a CM and a RB regardless, but I am concerned with the type of player we are targetting. It needs to be better than before and it needs to be the right position and Pochettino needs to get it right.

We definetaly need to target more,if llorente does go we are back to only Son as cover, moura at a push as a striker,We need 2 CM one a deeper player and another #10 type.Reason for me wanyama as cover?Dier had an uneventful season, and further upfield Lamela will he ever play 30 games?and eriksen/dele need pushing and to be able to be rotated.Sessgnon if we go for him is more for the future, but CB we have foyth, toby, jan, sanchez with dier and davies as cover in emergency,I cant see poch signing anyone without one of the 4 leaving personally, but the nagging question is likeable as they are, would they get into city or liverpools squads?Stick or twist if you like.

For 3 years we were so solid at the back,I dont know why suddenly this season has been costly there?injuries, lack of stability?tactics?dembele?is it further up the field our defensive troubles start?Games we were winning or got back level and then went on to lose was so unlike us in previous years

Liverpool,In fairness it wasnt all about VVD arriving, they also got blessed with 2 homegrown or low cost fullbacks emerging and bar Gomes defensively they stayed injury free all season.

Look if Poch can get back dele, eriksen, toby, trippiers, jan`s mojo again we`ll be alright, but why they lost it this year?world cup hangover?arrogance?heads turned?or how they were asked to play?but that still leaves some deadwood in the squad, wanyama, lamela, aurier, and the no coming back gang CCV,onomah, janssen, nkoudou, edwards?vorm&llorente will almost certainly be off too that could be 10 players out,and surely KWP is the footballing equivalent of the 40 year old virgin, where does he fit in?

I flip flop between thinking we arent far away, and then other times we need a huge squad overhaul.

So therefore a bit of both......we have some very good players but in the case of Toby Jan, Danny they’re getting on and who really knows if Sanchez and Foyth will turn out to be world class? We have Harry, Dele, Eriksen and Son that could do with some support, and we’re looking a bit vulnerable and light weight in midfield. There’s nothing immediately dramatic maybe just 2-3 quality players this Summer but over the next 2 summers more major surgery will be required.

The current crop have done wonders this season, but I suspect a weird year, with some ‘big’ European teams needing a more complete rebuild - Real, Juve, Bayern, United even Barcelona and Paris. That’s a lot, Liverpool and us (with a little luck) made the rest of Europe look very average, and that goes for more most teams at home as well.

It’s going to be a difficult market this Summer though, with not enough talent to go around. We have Sir Poch who will coach players to over achieve, Let’s hope Levy provides the support Poch needs, rather than trying to save a Quid here and there.....I mean these days it’s only a few sausage rolls on match day right?

Wise words from El Jefe

We need to close the chapter," Pochettino said towards the end of the season. "We are not in Chigwell [at Spurs Lodge training ground] any more; we are not at White Hart Lane with 36,000 [capacity]. The magnitude of the club has grown 100 times. We cannot operate in the same way as five years ago. We are in another dimension.

"When you arrive here now, it looks like a big club. Before, you could say: ‘Yeah, but the stadium only holds 36,000.’ Now, there is no point in thinking like a small club. You must think like a big club. If you want to compare to Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus or Real Madrid, you can’t think you are Tottenham with 36,000.
"When you settle in this fantastic new stadium, it’s to fight and not only be in the Champions League in some periods – like in the past. It’s a stadium to be in every seas Show all… on of the Champions League; every season being a real contender and fighting for big things. This is my idea and we will see if we can deliver it."

Dembele is overwhelmingly why. Until recently, his phenomenal ability was that he only attempted things he was fairly sure he would be successful at - be it tackles, passes, dribbled, etc. All things that when failed at by a DM/CM, left the opposition with the ball running at an uncovered defense. The result of Dembele’s careful nature was that statistically the opposition found themselves far less often in a counter with the covering defensive midfielder badly out of position than is normal against top teams. Admittedly, this also made him frustrating at times and is probably why he wasn’t widely regarded as the world class midfielder he actually was.

For a couple of seasons there his all around stats of success-rate balanced with relatively high overall attempts were literally unprecedented across European leagues - and have remained unrepeated.

You know, he's not far off. He's different in that he has genuine speed and power that scares opponents when he is running at them.

He doesn't have Dembele's smarts or ability to hold the ball in really tight situations but he is unique and a huge asset to Spurs.

8 weeks until the start of the season, whilst not quite last chance saloon, time is moving on and so far its new spurs, same as the old spurs. All fart and no shit, lots of un-named sources about targets, figures, speculation about who may leave, most of it just leaving fans with a semi watching, with no chance of actually getting a shag.If only everything wasnt so public,if you believe the papers/tv we will be lining up in a 3-6-1 formation,we are selling rose, trippier, eriksen, toby its all such bullshit.

Truth is in keeping with the thread of where do we go now?I wish we moved quickly to move on those who Poch would rarely use,I could name janssen, nkoudou, wanyama, llorente (probably wont renew),we have the kids we have spoken about onomah,CCV,edwards??What about those right backs (all 3 of them),lamela, and then the E word.Probably a lot of our fumbling about is waiting on Eriksen,TBH Toby is bye the bye, great important player, but we are heavy with CBs and really its down to him now,we have allowed his contract situation to overtake us,same way as when we signed him under saints noses.
I think my point is for all the BS about who we may sign, who may go,who may sign a new contract, its the first time in awhile we have allowed this to get ahead of us,we had a great young squad tied down, but its kind of frayed around the edges now.We arent alone, look at players walking from clubs, released also coming into their last year, chelsea just lost their star player with one year left, arsenal lost ramsey, welbeck, cech, lichtensteiner, man utd fellaini, valencia & have a multitude of players at or near the end.

So what is the plan?sell first and spend after, buy and then sell once cover is there,a mix of both??If we are talking about over spending by 10m each on wan-bissaka,ndombele,lo celso then that £30m extra gambled isnt really so terrible? While i dont expect poch&levy to come out and talk about it,just seems to be meandering on,and 8 weeks left doesnt allow much wiggle room for pre-season getting to know you.
I think mostly first I want eriksen resolved one way or another and quickly, sign up or sell to release money for his replacement if so.Just feels very messy this window for us,and not because we havent signed, just all the ifs,so many ifs.

I agree with the sentiment just not the application.

Buy what we want/need, and those on the peripheries who are not required can get their agents working on their behalf on the understanding that we have a price they must achieve.

If they just want to collect wages, then fuck em. Send em out on loan so their wages are subsidised and write them off.

Enough fucking about, sign who we want and move the fuck forward.
