The last couple French wingers we signed didn’t work out. Hopefully Wilson turns that around.

This has come out of left field! Never heard of the boy, a 30m price tag and youtube suggests he is a very tidy young player (I know youtube suggests that about every player) and the fact he has experiened English football is encouraging. I'll look forward to seeing him in The Lilywhite.

Well this was out of nowhere. Based on the fee, you'd expect him to be part of the squad sooner than later.

I had never noticed or even heard of him until now.
Based on a quick YT vid, he's got skill & speed & can play across the pitch. Seems to love to drive forward.
Strangely enough, seems to have been a teammate of Carlos Valderrama (around 2:40 in vid).

If this means no Eze, this is a dumb transfer.
While it does reek of a Levy special of being unable to secure the primary target and coming up with a cheap alternative, I suspect this kid is probably going to be a direct replacement (and upgrade) for Manor Solomon.

We're also pretty light on left sided attackers as well so he could even end up being the main backup for Sonny.

Vincent Kompany:

He’s just a player with such a bright future ahead of him,” Kompany told the Burnley Express in March.

“It’s funny how he actually benefited from an injury to another of our star players, Luca Koleosho.

“But he’s clocking games in the Premier League, he’s responsible with his defensive duties, he’s able to play in different positions now, out wide and centrally. He’s able to beat people, outside and centrally.

“He’s got a goal in him and an assist in him as well, so he’s a very positive player for us this season.”

At least he is not William N’Odobert, then I would be worried 😂😂😂😂😂

I'll be honest, never heard of the cunt... Well impressed out of the blocks and the fact he is 19, tells you all you need to know... He will only get better...

He does give us something new. Extremely direct in the way he commits his opponent. I think the kid he was against was also a stand out for Everton, he did a decent job on OdJob to be fair to him.

I hope he is getting the right coaching because I don't see anyone else at the club who does what he does. Kulu is slower and more jinky (and in truth a bit weird how he does it, but he seems to have come on a bit since last year),Sonny is all about timing his run on the shoulder, the fullbacks are about the overloads at pace... So I don't see anyone else who actually squares up their man who he can learn from... I think that'll be crucial in his development and I hope they've got that sussed because I think this kid could have a heigh ceiling if we get him to his potential.

Do I still think we would be better with Eze in the squad... 100%

He had a good first half and I expect him to be a regular in the forthcoming season.

It's a good point, he's unique in his style. The thing is we have to have players like him with Ange's style of play, so I think he'll definitely get lots of coaching.

Without wide players able to take on defenders from a standstill, its easy for things to bog down in the opponent's third as we've seen lots of times. Wish we had a couple more players like that to be honest.

Both didn’t score, both didn’t assist.

Even Steven’s right!

I think Johnson is one of those who is better against good sides that leave space behind. He's not one to take defenders on, especially deep in the opponent's half. The way we play against most teams, where we pin them back, means we need players who can work and create in tight spaces. Early evidence is that Odobert can do that. Johnson's been poor this season, but I don't think he's the donkey that some (not on here) are making him out to be. Just kind of one-dimensional.

Keeping in mind - which I'm certain you are - that we're 5% of our way through the season.

BJ should not start every game, and he won't. But he's a decent winger, and we've now plenty of options to vary our approach up the right.

Or just stick to the left, as we did up in the NW and land a right hook when the opponent's guard is down.

Feeling very confident riggt now, but I've got a litre of gin inside me.

Johnson leaves a lot on the table, we all have seen this for a few seasons...

But to make a comparison of the two is bullshit. Odjob has played 1 game... Johnson 2...

Let's let them fail before we write them off FFS... It's just fucking childish.

So I hope Wilson starts tomorrow and Johnson on the bench hopefully to come on around 60mins to run at tired legs

Sonny left and Kulu up top

The point I'd have made if I'd been sober myself is that the two games we've played haven't been Johnson's kind of games.

I too see him as fairly one dimensional but his redeeming quality is also the one that frustrates me the most. He has the knack / ability to get himself into the right positions for easy tap ins via head or foot, yet misses the mark 95% of the time.
