This is farcical. An absolute joke. The ref has lost control of this, no thanks to those running the game.

Wow this is absolutely unbelievable and will do nothing but bad things for the future of VAR in the sport.

Did the real referees and VAR officials get stranded in the snow and they gave the job to a couple of care in the community wankers? That was a total fucking joke. The game was killed dead by all that VAR bollocks, we start to build a rhythm then have to stand around in the freezing cold for fucking ages waiting for the VAR bloke to fuck up the decision.

The first disallowed goal was a joke, because if Llorente was guilty then the Rochdale player who was pulling his shirt off first should have had a penalty awarded against him. How the fuck it wasn't a penlaty when Lucas was straight armed I have no idea.

A total fucking joke.

Football isn't suited to VAR, bottom line. It works for cricket and rugby because those game are start/stop by nature and very set piece driven, football isn't and never should be. Regardless of our performance up to now, that first half was a shambles wrapped up in a fucking debacle. The richest football nation in the world is a fucking laughing stock on the back of that.

Son's yellow card? The FA rules say:

  • feinting to kick the ball once the kicker has completed the run-up (feinting in the run-up is permitted); the referee cautions the kicker
As Son took another step then his run up was NOT completed, so that's bollocks. Disallowing it was right because if Sonny is going to do that he has to tell the other players because there were at least 3 of our blokes in the box when he kicked it - dumb. I don't think it was a penalty anyway, the offence started way outside the box and 99/100 that's a free kick.

Unfortunately I'm at work and can't get the stream to work, but if this sets VAR's presence in the game back a few years (which I doubt),our advancing in the cup will be the second best thing to come out of this game for me.

Crypto's ratings:

Vorm - his balls retreated inside his abdomen before he froze to death. 6
Trippier - had an amusing chat with a Rochdale player. 7
Foyth - booking his tickets back to Argentina. He didn't sign up for this. 6
Dier - plodded around because he was told to. 6
Rose - used to be a first choice LB who would be at home drinking hot chocolate on nights like this. 6
Winks - clearly unhappy with the ref and VAR...and pissed off because he is a small lad who feels the cold. 7
Sissoko - big and lumbering. 6
Moura - loved it, ran around like a kid throwing snowballs. 9
Son - just run up and kick the ball Sonny. 8
Lamela - imagine if he was two footed. 8
Llorente - phoned Spain looking for an exit at HT. They were having none of it so decided to play football instead. 9

Why did they use a yellow ball? Why did Poch bring Dembele and Alli on when we were 3 up?

Meanwhile Tottenham Hotspur progressed 6-1 in the FA Cup and will now play Swansea City in the quarter final. Fernando Llorente scored a hat trick and so did the Beast from the East - Son Heung Min only he didn't really and it was very snowy and cold.

With the obvious exception of VAR what is not to like? COYS

I really wasn’t happy when he brought on Dembele. In fact I think that was almost the most shocking part of the night (var aside but that was just farcical),I mean we weren’t good in the 1st half but I always felt we were gonna run away with it, so was pretty relaxed about the game but Dembele, wtf, for me, he’s only behind Harry and Eriksen in terms of players we can ill afford to lose and it just felt a totally needless decision but hey what do I know, the Poch is our messiah!

First of all, nice win & we're now in the final 8.

I didn't have any doubts about the result even with the bizarre calls for & against us in the first half.
But once Rochdale pulled one back to tie it, combined with those "calls", I thought "maybe this won't end well if we're not careful".

Great to see the boys being able to turn it up as soon as we kicked off the 2nd half.

For some time I've been harping on about wanting to see Lamela through the middle & I liked what I saw. Plenty of skill, finesse & a great deal of tenacity. Really can pick out a pass along with finding space for himself. Though I did think Poch would have taken him off rather than Son given his penchant for some dodgy tackles. Especially under these conditions (on a yellow & in snow). One unintentional slip & he could have been off.

Moura will get even better. Once he finds his stride within the team, he'll give us an even greater whole other dimension.

Good on Llorente. Felt he had that "Soldado sigh of relief" look once he scored his first.
By his 3rd goal, he had his Champions League look. Amazing what a little bit of confidence can do.

Son was Son. Endured a bit of a dry spell prior to yesterday but back to scoring.

I liked KWP going forward. You could see what that goal meant to him. If his confidence grows, we won't need to spend 50M on Sessegnon.

Does anybody else wonder what's up with Winks? Hasn't been the same since his injury. May just need a bit more time. Not convinced with Dier at CB. Doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me back there. Conversely, felt Foyth did well. He really likes to have the ball at his feet. I could see him playing in a more advanced position if he bulks up a bit. Has good skill & likes to drive forward.

Really looking forward to these next few weeks.

KWP is more of a RB though, isn't he? Sessegnon plays on the left and is a world-beater.

But KWP played on the left in an advanced position like Sessegnon.
And I don't consider Sessegnon a world beater.
He's almost 18 & playing in the 2nd tier of English Football. That's admirable.
But if you watch him closely, he does not have exceptional skill, his decision making is poor as he tends to run head down into to trouble ie blind alleys. And he doesn't have the ability to find his way out.

You can't teach speed so it's an asset for him but sometimes that can be detrimental as he relies on it rather that having to develop his skill set out of necessity.

I obviously don't rate him as highly anymore after having watched him a little more closely of late.

He's raw, & if we did buy him as some reports claim, hopefully Poch can work his magic on him.

All I can say is, watch him.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate. He's 17 and is the top scorer (playing left and deep) for a side that may very well be promoted. I take a bit of an interest in Fulham and watch quite a lot of their games. In my opinion (and it is only my opinion) he will be a superstar of the game.
