So is it the team... the players... or the manager...?

You look at the current crop of players and with 5 Yids in the starting line up I have to ask the question...

Why did we play the way we did? Why did we not try to play the way the majority of the starting up play which would have been to most of their strengths?

Spurs currently play high tempo, in your face, pressing, fast football...

We use our wingbacks as one of our major attacking outlets and harrys teams to give us the ball back in dangerous areas high up the pitch.

We play with one recognised striker and with a creative grafting player behind him feeding him the ball when we reclaim possession deep in our oppositions half.

We have a solid DM who predominantly sits to protect the back 4 incase this high press fails and they break through us and have a decent run at our back 4...

All those ingredients were present from the Spurs side in the national team. Walker and Rose basically playing as wingers. Dier, Alli and Kane right through the spine of the team... All the ingredients and the structure was there for Woy to build around... so what did he do.

Revert to type.

Same side to side boring monotonous England of the 80's football we have suffered for 30 years.

No creativity... no spark... no dynamics... nothing.

Will this be a other wasted generation of England players? Unless the FA grown some swingers and appoint a progressive modern manager who will un shackle us from this predictable slow football and get us playing to our strengths, yes it will be wasted.

We have just been dumped out of the Euro's by Iceland. A country with the same population as Milton Keynes and has more volcanos than professional fotballers.

Another day another Eroupean exit.

Yid.

Look at the previous couple of games I thought we looked good but lacked the ability to push for a goal. Yesterday they all looked absolutely knackered like they had all been out on the piss the night before or over trained.

I think that team needs a couple of changes, different formation and a manager which can motivate like Poch does at spurs.......................Maybe time to enter Harry Rednapp and give him a shot with the young team.

I started this competition with more enthusiasm for the international team than I have in many many years, ultimately they delivered what my expectations where though.

So, Allardyce looks like he is sticking by Wayne Rooney. I don't get it. Albert Einstein once defined lunacy as doing the same thing over and over again expecting different different results, and this appears to be an affliction of England managers.

It reminds me a bit of the Lampard/Gerrard dilemma. Everyone knew how good the players were, but we all knew that played together in the same team their effectiveness was halved at best, and the team as a whole was worse. However, despite it being plain as day that Lampard and Gerrard could not play together, England manager after England manager attempted it. They all seemed to think they could do it differently by doing it the same . . . Lunacy!

It's similar with Wayne Rooney. Nobody is disputing he's not a great player, but you cannot get away from the fact that in an England shirt he has not been as good as he has been in a United shirt. That assessment is slightly unfair as, in his younger days for England, he was excellent when not hampered by injury. It seems to me though that, particularly since being given the captaincy, his performances have plummeted. Yet despite his reduced effectiveness, manager after manager not only picks him but makes him captain.

Rooney does have a way of making things difficult - when everyone said he shouldn't even go to the Euros, Hodgson took him, played him and made him captain, but he put him in midfield and he played very well at first. However, in my opinion, whether he plays with well or not, when Rooney is in the team he becomes the focus of everyone, and that's a problem. Clive Woodward made that exact point when the other day Rooney stole the limelight from his teammates and Allardyce by, for some reason, choosing this moment to announce his international retirement.... in 2 years time???

Woodward said in response "sometimes England's footballers forget there is no 'I' in team" and that is Rooney in a nutshell when he plays for England. He's so much better for United partly because he isn't the "I" in their team of superstars and, in fact, last season was 1 of his worst for them because they had an average side in which he WAS the star.

When will an England manager realise that it doesn't matter how good Rooney is on his own, England is a team and our BEST performances in the last few years have ALL come when Rooney hasn't played, whilst our WORST performances have ALL happened with Rooney playing, some of them even when Rooney himself has played quite well, which makes the point perfectly.

We need to start thinking of the "team". Players play well for their clubs because club managers select the team by looking at it as a whole. Clubs have rarely flourished when their player recruitment has been about just finding the best players possible. Take Pochettino for example, if he needs a striker he won't just sign the best striker, but the best striker who fits his philosophy, the best striker with the correct temperament and the best striker who works within the framework of the players he'll be playing alongside. He won't sign someone who does not compliment Harry Kane's gameplay basically.

However, that is precisely the opposite of what happens at international level with England. We select the XI perceived best players, whether they compliment each other and our tactics or not. Lampard and Gerrard were the best 2 English midfielders, they had to be squeezed into the team together regardless of the fact their games cancelled each other out! It's the same with Rooney and Kane - both are top English strikers, but I just do not think they suit each other's game. You play one or the other and, based on the other players in the England team and his form over the last 2 seasons, I would go for Kane over Rooney. That does not mean you have to squeeze Rooney somewhere else as a result because, like when Hodgson put him in midfield in the Euros, he'll only play in a position instead of somebody better suited for it.

We all focus on Rooney, "look how well he is playing in midfield!", but the only reason we pay so much attention is because it is Rooney and we were expecting him to be average in midfield. However, I am still convinced that no matter how well we think he played, Dele Alli would've done better and having Rooney play in Alli's position immediately handicapped Alli. Not only is Alli out of position, but Rooney takes all the attention too.

A GREAT manager would drop Rooney. Alex Ferguson was happy to drop Rooney and doing it without worrying about Rooney's ability brought titles. It would not just cut Rooney down to size, but it would also be a leveller for all the younger players. Alli, had he played where Rooney played v Russia with Rooney on the bench, would not only feel that he's playing in his best position, he's playing there instead of the mighty Wayne Rooney! How's that for motivation? And I think Alli would rise to it. Instead, Hodgson took the impetus out of Alli in 1 foul swoop by pinning all his hopes on Wayne and shifting Alli back a bit or out wide.

I really, really hope we ditch Rooney. I don't care how well he plays or how good he is, he is the last remaining figure of that blasted "Golden Generation", the last real England "superstar" and the quicker we get away from the individual and back to the team, particularly when it's such a young, potentially exciting team, the better

Form form form...

We should be picking players in form regardless of their hitorical standing or their perceived abilities.

If Wazza is in form for Utd and Dell isn't then fair doo's pick him.

The issue is that he has named him captain..... wrong decision imo as that does to a degree make him undropable. What we need is the gaffer to be progressive...... (everyone pisses themselves laughing at that happening to an end squad) and drum an ethos of cohesion and leaders all through the team making the title of captain pretty much irrelivant.

People jizzing over Sam as an old skool gaffer who will do the fotball equivalent of Brexit to English football and roll back to a nostalgic time of great English football is pure hyperbole.

He is a one dimensional big mouthed gaffer who when it gets tough turns on his players.

England bores the Iiving fcuk out of me and I don't expect anything to change.

That's a bit tricky though mate. Kane, Sturrridge and Vardy should all really be dropped at the moment (and Rooney of course but he isn't a striker these days is he?) that would mean England had to play a 4-6-0 formation, I know fuck all about tactics but that probably isn't good. Rashford has moved back to the under 21s I think.

Who are the top English goal scorers in the PL at the moment? I do believe that might be JD and Antonio, the big fat fucker has picked one of them but the little man has been ignored again Jermain Defoe he's YIDDO! ..... had a bit of a flashback there, nice!

Southgate in charge from tomorrow then.

Sam cannot continue as England manager after this, even if it is not as bad as it looks.

There's something that really doesn't sit right about all this for me. It was unethical deal-making from Big Sam for sure, but it was also unethical journalism as far as I'm concerned. Is it even journalism?

There is a reason entrapment is ILLEGAL in Britain. The Police are not allowed to resort to such methods to seal a conviction, so how can the press convict Sam this way?

I fully understand the whole "can't cheat an honest man" argument, but the fact remains that the whole immoral conversation which has done for the England manager was instigated by a journalist, not by Sam. To me, that is not "investigative journalism"

Investigative journalism would be to hear about some dodgy dealing that is going on, seek it out, maybe sit on a table nearby or get a mole in on the deal and record an actual, real-life dodgy deal going down. They couldn't do that, clearly, so they had to invent their own dodgy deal.

The very fact that these journalists had to create their own deal suggests that this is not as rife as they're trying to make out.

The conversation which followed with Sam is, without doubt, dirty and uncomfortable, but it is no less dirty than the actions of these journalists.

I think the whole saga stinks

I think we all know that most journalists these days are only interested in dirt and confrontation. Even blokes on the BBC who used to be respected journalists only seem interested in starting a fight or uncovering the filthy, smelly underwear of celebrities, politicians and sporting folks.

Personally I don't have a problem with this 'investigation', the so-called evidence can not be used in a court of law so the Fat One can't be busted for the crime, he could probably claim that he was constructively dismissed by the FA even though he resigned - and rake in a few more quid. I think the FA have shown how farking naive they are in appointing someone with skellingtones in the cupboard as England gaffer, they walk around with their eyes shut, fingers in their ears singing 'la-de-la-de-la', ignoring the corruption that everybody and his dog knows is going on in football. OK I am being totally unrealistic but I want to go back to the good old days when England players and managers where proper sportsmen who did it of the love of the game not vast wheelbarrows full of money and children were sent up chimneys or they got no gruel, those were the days.

Fat Bloke is as we all know a nasty git, I am bot remotely bovvared that he allowed himself to be entrapped, Nadia from Bakeoff MUST be the next England boss, there is no way she would stick her nose in the trough, she's lovely she is!

.....then he goes and plays much better for the last 30 mins....in fact one of England's best players. Andros looked good when he came on, Eric may need some minutes and Kyle was good. Dele got subbed but could have been anyone to be fair, tough night, especially when they started kicking out for the last 10 minutes.
