We've exercised an option, it's not a new contract. I think we're grooming Foyth and Sanchez to take over from the great Jan and Toby combo. This is why it's important to get some titles under our belt before Summer 2020.

I hope so&I hope we actually make a new contact for 2 years, its what he has come out and said he would like and after all we took Gallas as cover when he was much older than Jan,and suprised me by doing well.
We hope for loyalty from our players, time to show them we give it back unreservedly for service and performance here&now.I think what chelsea did with lampard and terry has cost them, long servants but wouldnt go beyond 1 year extensions, whether they are still good enough week in week out,as cover and holding a dressing room together, big error to be so tight on wages with their position and still pay mega bucks for new fees&wages.
So what if a 2nd year for jan is too much,no one is caring about janssen, nkoudou, llorente taking a wage for a couple of years gratis.Even in the background sure he is worth at least 2 more years.

I agree but we're probably being naive.

If we halved his wages it is still more than ajax would be paying him,he could get a brucie bonus if he was a freebie,we did that for defoe I think?another nice way of rewarding a great servant.

Harsh on GKN and Llorente, they were absolutely massive in our International Champions Cup campaign.

That's one of things I've never really thought about with footballers--wealthy men whose schedules are public, so it's obvious when they won't be at home. No wonder they're always targeted. I just hope his children aren't traumatized by it.

Lamela is safe as houses then.

Yeah joking aside, awful for his family and him having to deal with not being there to stop it,must hurt like hell that guilt trip.

Jan having a laugh at sissoko....

EZbwdNiXsAI_1d1
Ive got a sense of humour but I'm not sure how I feel about that....and yes I'm sure it's just team mates having a laugh but......if 10% of the senior players in the squad (Like Jan) performed as well as Sissoko over the last 18 months we'd be comfortably top 4.....with senior players sticking it to you like that, who needs critics!

Jose Mourinho has called off contract talks with the Belgian international, who is in the final weeks of his deal with the club and is set to depart.

Vertonghen, 33, has spent the last eight years at Spurs since joining from Ajax and won’t be short of offers to continue playing in either Spain or Italy.

Massive player for this club. I mean, this is obviously just a tribute, but there's a lot that's actually interesting in it: for example, he remembers the game that year Leicester won the title like a lot of us did--the media portrayed it as a bottle job, but he was proud of the way the team fought. Also, how he sees himself as a player that likes being part of long-term projects, and that he was important in the lives (not just the football development) of a lot of the younger players that came through under Poch. I remember under Sherwood when he was getting stick for his supposedly bad attitude. We're very lucky he stuck around. Legend. He also strikes me as the sort of player who could enter management.

I met him and all the players before the NLD under sherwood,he was mopey and tried to sneak in past all the fans&kids with paulinho (suprise suprise),eventually met fans and signed but had a face like thunder, was not a happy bunny.I thought then if he walked so what,he didnt care.Poch got him back and he has been superb again.
Will miss him,one of those players who will call himself a spur for life.
