it is hard to remember any set of football accounts that has manifested such good balance in recent years as these Spurs figures for the 12 months to 30 June 2018.

For one thing, the 23% advance in revenue, to £380.7 million, was in no way attributable to Premier League broadcasting deals. In fact, the club’s TV and media money fell by £2 million to £147.6 million.

Instead, this top-line growth was attributable to a mix comprising a decent European campaign (this will probably help again in an eventful 2018-19 season that is unlikely to see this level of profitability replicated),a hefty 54% increase in sponsorship and corporate hospitality revenue and a big jump in Premier League gate receipts as a consequence of attracting an average of 68,500 people a game to Wembley.

While revenue was bumping up, cost discipline was rigid, with operating expenses creeping up a mere £400,000 to £228.7 million. This element of the club’s financial performance is perhaps not quite as good as it looks. The fine print reveals that the 2016-17 figure included £6.7 million of unrepeated “enabling” costs, incurred in the interim period while building had started on the new stadium site while the team was still playing at nearby White Hart Lane. There is also a £7.9 million gain in the latest period from sales of property, plant and equipment, and a possibly related £22 million reduction in depreciation costs.

The main item – staff costs – actually rose by £20 million or so to £147.6 million. That is equivalent to 16.3%, so not too far below the 23% revenue advance – and this in a year in which a) remuneration of the highest-paid director was halved from £6 million to £3 million and b) the average number of temporary staff employed on match days plummeted from 457 to 95, a spin-off, presumably, of the temporary move to Wembley.

This presentation, analysis and comparisons are fascinating, easy to read and understand. It's a real insight and possibly the only one worth spending any time on.

Way I choose to read that... on this track, we're a Dortmund/Atletico sized club, running with player sales making cash... but are transitioning to becoming a financial powerhouse in Europe

I approve.

I will only approve if being a financial powerhouse puts shineys in the cupboard. I don't give the tiniest feck about being a financial powerhouse.. Shineys are the only thing that matter. I don' really think Levy has the ability to spend the sort of money needed for us to become a football powerhouse and he is not invited to the grand BBQ opening ceremony at Casa Dorset, the bloke makes me itch, always has.

The rich which now includes us, keep getting exponentially richer, the top 4 even more crucial in this regard. What hope for everyone outside the top 6......? Find a multi billionaire or just play for fun. I mean Saints beat us, Palace beat City, etc. So there’s still hope, but football as we used to know it is disappearing.....quickly.

So with a naming rights deal the stadium is paid off in about 2-3years.....Wow! Levy can afford to invest in players. But we’re soon going to be Man City lite,

If you want to look at it another way, consindering in the last ten years we'd spent £500m or so on capex... not including players, etc iirc from a Swiss Ramble.... that's a good chunk of whatever we owe on the stadium.

Well the club and players never declare individual players earnings in reports, and dont have to,its different to directors and such.So I think it is just guessing, unless they have illegally got hold of tax and income data from somewhere, not that the press would ever hack a phone,or pay for illiicit information.

Here I go again........

Spurs rule London
The Premier League makes the biggest contribution to the top 20 of the Money League, with eight teams featured.

Tottenham achieved its highest-ever position of eighth by increasing revenue 21% to £459.3m.

Deloitte said the jump was due to increased revenue from commercial sources and broadcasters after a season in which Spurs reached the Champions League final and moved into their new stadium.

Spurs are now generating more money than any other club in London, with Chelsea ninth overall and Arsenal now outside the top 10 in 11th as a consequence of going consecutive seasons without qualifying for the Champions League.

In a lot of cases, agents have an interest in their players' wages being public, I imagine they play a role as well. Of course, without knowing the ins and outs (add-ons, especially) it's pretty much meaningless.
