Knockout play throughout, like they used to be, would make it a much better competition, and alleviate some of the legitimate concerns about fixture pileups.

Another reason I like these competitions is that it gives us a chance to watch our own players we don't see very often, especially the younger boys. Still remember seeing a young Harry Kane in the EL against Hearts and (I have to admit) thinking he didn't look remotely good enough.

I like it too, where else can you see Riegler & Zechmeister Pellets Wolfsberger Athletik Club in action? But judging by recent history, the chances of Mourinho playing the kids are slim to none.

I've always thought of the Europa league as the FA cup of European play. Everybody gets excited when ManU has to go to Carlisle, or the Croydon plumber's union gets to play at Anfield. I think there's just as much romance in these unsung sides getting a home-and-away run at the galacticos of the big five leagues.

And lest that sound patronizing, don't forget that the tractor-makers had to best a bunch of other decent sides to get their chance.

I just don't want us flying to Kazakhstan or Vladivostok.

If you look closely you'll see a pattern of a game every 3 days if we continue to qualify. April and May are a nonsense. Even with a big squad they are big games requiring top players and we haven't really had an injury yet. Good luck lads, tough at the top eh?

Even if we only made it to say, the QF of the EL and FA Cup, we'll have players dropping like flies in March or so. If we can say one thing for certain, it's that Levy, anticipating this, will definitely spend to make significant additions this month to help us be competitive on all fronts.

Arsenal’s home and away legs against Benfica in the Europa League round of 32 will be played at neutral venues due to current COVID-19 regulations. Arsenal were scheduled to travel to Portugal for the first leg but that game will now be played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on February 18...

Arsenal's 'home' fixture will meanwhile be played in Athens at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, the home of Olympiacos, on February 25.

Manchester United's away leg against Real Sociedad in the Europa League has been moved to the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

On Monday it was announced that Manchester City's match with Borussia Monchengladbach had been moved. The first leg of that round of 16 tie will also be played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, while RB Leipzig will play Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie in Budapest.
