#PL2 - FT - @LFC 3-2 Spurs: Positive start including fine goal from Edwards on his return but it ended in disappointment at Anfield.

We have some decent youngsters, wish THFC would show more commitment to coverage, terrible to have to put up with 90mins of rawk commentary!

Have to say though, when I have watched their coverage of youth games, their commentators are usually pretty good, they obviously favour their own team but often it's less biased commentary than you see on the Premier League where ex-players so blatantly have grudges against certain teams even when their own team isn't playing.

Is this the lad that went to Rangers? I thought he had a good chance a year ago.....another one out of the Taarabet camp?
thats him!!doing stepovers in scottish div2 made him worthy of a starting spot on the team (according to one poster with a hard on).
Obviously not wanted and holding up production, with edwards and onomah in front and even then not certain to make a career at spurs, its the right call to move Oduwa on.
Next contestant.........

Everything you need to know about Spurs' talented teen striker Kazaiah Sterling
The 18-year-old has been popping up with some important goals recently for the youth sides
GettyImages-643195114.jpg

Teenage striker Kazaiah Sterling is starting to make his name in Tottenham Hotspur's academy with some important goals in recent weeks.

After grabbing two for the U18s to send them through in the FA Youth Cup against Norwich City, the 18-year-old then made his first start for the U23s on Monday night, and proved to be the match-winner again with an early goal which saw off Sunderland.

The result lifted Spurs out of the drop zone in the Premier League 2 and had many fans hoping Sterling might be the next big thing to come out of the academy, following in the footsteps of Marcus Edwards and Kyle Walker-Peters this season, who are now training with the first team.

England U18 international Sterling is probably a little further off making the jump to senior football, unlike his team-mate last night Shayon Harrison who is currently on loan at Yeovil Town, but he's certainly got the raw abilities to be a success as a professional footballer.
His goal against Sunderland at Stevenage's Lamex Stadium showcased three of his strengths, his predatory instincts, pace and his physical edge.

The game was just five minutes old when Sterling robbed Sunderland goalkeeper Max Stryjek of the ball on the edge of his box, holding off the stopper, before rolling it into the empty net.
Sterling, who joined Spurs from Leyton Orient as a youngster, was playing slightly wider than he was used to, out on the left of an attacking three, but he still found the perfect position to bag a goal.

One part of Sterling's game that needs work is his coolness in one-on-one situations. Although both his goals against Norwich were from such situations, he missed a good chance against Sunderland and a string of opportunities in the U18's league match against Leicester City at Hotspur Way earlier this month.
Sterling, who joined Spurs from Leyton Orient as a youngster, was playing slightly wider than he was used to, out on the left of an attacking three, but he still found the perfect position to bag a goal.
The teenager is finding his groove again after needing to battle back from an injury which kept him out of the first few months of the campaign.

"The physios, especially Aaron [Harris], have been doing a lot of work with me, so that's really helped me kicked on," he admitted in an exclusive interview with football.london after the Norwich victory.

He's scored twice in his 11 U18 league appearances this season, but has netted five in three FA Youth Cup performances, scored against Monaco in the UEFA Youth League and starred as Spurs travelled to Florida to win the IMG Cup.

Two years ago he netted in the televised FA Cup Youth Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea and Monday night's goal meant he scored on his first appearance of the campaign for the U23s.
Describing his own pros and cons as a footballer currently, Sterling told us: "My strengths are running in behind to finish, being aggressive and competing.

"My weakness is probably my play in tight areas, which I can definitely improve on."
"Harry Kane is the perfect inspiration. He's come through the academy as well. That's the standard I'm trying to hit," he said.

"It's really good to be a part of the academy at the moment. You've got the first team doing really well and that bodes well for everyone."

If Sterling can keep coming up with important goals, especially in next Monday's FA Youth Cup quarter-final at Newcastle, then Mauricio Pochettino will certainly be keeping a very close eye on him which bodes well for everyone concerned.

I think his contract runs out in June, so he needs a new one if we are going to keep him. I think it's a bit of a competition between him and Onomah and it seems Onomah is winning. Tough out there for all these young kids to make it.

Do you mean Sterling? he plays a striker role more than attacking MF,is a bit younger than Josh and def more inexperienced,Josh played his first 1st team game jan 2015,stering only joined that summer.Has been getting a lot of good reviews recently,Its quite normal around the time they hit 18/19 contacts rundown and then they are offered pro or let go,or not normally do what Stewart? did and left for liverpool. @spursman18 is most clued up around this stuff with the youth set up.

Its still pretty poor of THFC in not showing more PL2 matches, mostly we rely on MUTV or liverpool/chelsea tv for coverage when we play them.

Dilan Markanday (Y11) Awarded Scholarship at Tottenham Hotspur Academy
Jesal Suchak Tuesday 21 Feb 2017
Dilan Markanday in Year 11 has been awarded a Scholarship at the Tottenham Hotspur Academy from 1 July 2017. This opportunity will allow him to take up professional football with the club as well as studying for his A Levels for the next two years. This is everything he has been fighting for since he could first kick a ball. Dilan has managed to balance his education and football remarkably well with the huge support of the school. His life at Habs has taught him so much and this will without doubt be the foundation of his life and career ahead. What he has learnt is resolve, commitment, respect and an incredible determination to achieve his maximum potential. Whilst Dilan sets off on this new path he will ensure he keeps strong links with the school.

Just imagine being a kid and signing for our academy, must be a proud moment for him.
So Livermore,Mason get plenty of stick from some for being crap, bet they are gutted, having played for spurs and now only on 30k pw,with kane, winks going great, adds to the prestige of signing for us as a kid.Can only be good in terms of quality, must be a big draw to sign for siants or us as it seems you get good coaching and a career of your dreams,or you can sign for chelsea and go on loan to the balkans until you are given away.

Don't mention Oduwa though unless you're popping to Slovenia soon to see him play, one or two fall through the net.

Thanks Skiathos, that's pretty good going considering comparatively zero cost. I must look a few of them up....Veljkovic for instance, I thought he would do well, think he won the u18 World Cup with Serbia or something like that. Surprised that we only got £5m for lil Tom and Bournemouth also got a good deal on Adam Smith.

i did wonder about some, like falque and archer, but archer was free and falque cos we paid a small fee for him didnt count, here`s what i found.
Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ismail Azzaoui for an undisclosed fee, the club has confirmed. Azzaoui, 17, has left White Hart Lane to sign a five-year contract with the German club having failed to make a single appearance for the first team. He joins Wolfsburg to help fill the void left by Kevin de Bruyne, who joined Manchester City for a club record fee of £55m ($84) on Sunday 20 August.

A short statement from the Premier League side read: "We have reached agreement with VfL Wolfsburg for the transfer of Ismail Azzaoui. The 17-year-old joined our Academy full-time in the summer of 2014 having previously been at Anderlecht, and has represented us in the league at both Under-18 and Under-21 level, as well as in the FA Youth Cup. We wish Ismail well for the future."

Basically taken from the NBC programme last weekend.

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...-talent-says-academy-chief-john-a3477261.html
'Home-grown talent' has become a buzz word in the Premier League ever since measures were introduced requiring clubs to have eight players produced on British shores in their 25-man squads.

The mad dash to recruit the best players from around the globe still exists every summer, but there is now an emphasis - and potentially greater rewards - placed on sourcing local prospects.

Some major clubs have struggled to fulfil their quota, seemingly caught out by the numerical balancing act as Premier League football attempts to maintain some form of 'English' identity.

But other outfits - such as Tottenham - never took their eye off the ball and are already reaping the rewards of scouring their immediate surroundings for talent.
In NBC's 'Tottenham Hotspur: To Dare Is To Do' film, John McDermott, Spurs' head of coaching and player development, said: "What the club is committed to is the loyalty that comes with bringing through home-grown players.

"First of all we are in Greater London and there's 13 million people - it's a huge population.

"Our way is to try and make sure that we really dig into local talent. Once they're in there's a loyalty.
"I like to think we are now as competitive, if not more competitive, than our north London rivals."

The mention of Arsenal leads, inevitably, to Harry Kane.

The 23-year-old is the jewel in Tottenham's home-grown crown but should now be referred to as the one that got away from the Emirates Stadium, even if some Gunners fans are intent on arguing otherwise.

The striker's development - and ongoing importance to Spurs with his outstanding professional and commitment to the cause - epitomises McDermott's project at Hotspur Way.
Those with a lesser mentality may have walked away from the club after struggling for opportunities like Kane did, but the youngster stuck to his guns and is now, according to Mauricio Pochettino, one of the best forwards in world football.

"Coaching soccer players it's not something you can get a manual to," McDermott said of Kane's convoluted rise to elite level.

"Harry was quite a late maturer. He wasn't the physically most gifted at 14 but what he had was an incredible mentality and character to stick with the programme."
Kane's rise is now inspiring other hopefuls to stick with it. Harry Winks did just that.

And the 20-year-old has developed into a serious option in central midfield this season, with 29 senior appearances to his name.

The joyous embrace he shared with Pochettino after netting his first Premier League goal spoke volumes.

A player can be excused for allowing selfishness to take hold after such a key event but Winks - with ecstasy etched across his face - was determined to ensure the limelight was divided between him and his Argentine coach.

The word is out - Pochettino is willing to give youngsters a chance. The message appears to be simple - put in the work and you will be rewarded. However, talent alone is not enough to secure opportunities. A substantial emphasis is placed on attitude at Spurs and, in an era when youngsters are often accused of having 'too much, too young', surely that can be no bad thing.
"It's not just the technical or tactical aspects," McDermott continued. "A lot of it with Mauricio and a lot of what we try and engender here is what their character is like. Are they honest? Are they hard working?

"With Mauricio it's how they live - not just a motto or a logo - they've got to be truly respectful."

Perhaps such demands are unsurprising given Pochettino has introduced a handshake regime which requires all of his players to exchange pleasantries prior to a training session.

Sure, individuals can shine. But no-one can lose sight of the team.
"He's trying to get that balance of the individual pushing themselves to get personal bests and excel but he [the player] must be able to do that within the context of a team.

"Trying to find that balance is not the science it's the art of the coach."

Those not willing to put in the graft, need not apply: "Ultimately you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.

"That's what we say with the young players. It's essential they are intrinsically motivated."

With a man as driven as Pochettino at the helm; such crucial characteristics should soon be second nature for an entire generation of Spurs youngsters.
