All the match dates, Round 1 is on 18/19th September, straight after Liverpool at home in the new Stadium, and then continue second round of games is 2/3rd October. All the seedings and format - Spurs are in pot 2 this year, and everything else you ever wanted to know including where to book rooms in advance for the final in Madrid on 1st June 2019 at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium - the catchy new name for Atletico Madrid's, new Stadium. The sharp eyed amongst you will know it has a similar roof construction to New White Hart Lane. can be found right here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018–19_UEFA_Champions_League

If you're wondering why there are 2 teams missing from Pot 2, it's because Benfica (Coefficent 80,000) and Basle (Coefficent 71,000) are yet to qualify. If they do then they will jump into pot 2 and Roma and Liverpool will be in pot 3.

So tuck in, match Day threads for Champions League in the new Stadium to follow: All of that sounds very good doesn't it? The old days were as recent as 5 years ago, remember?

Looks like I'm actually going to be around for some of the Champs league games this season which will be nice as missed them all last season. Selling my ticket for Real at home was a heart breaker. I'll be sure to make at least one of the group games this year though, it's difficult for me to do midweek games but it's gotta be done!!!

Yesssssssssssssssssssssss !!!

UEFA’s Executive Committee recently amended its regulation on the distribution of alcohol, which is now permitted at UEFA competitions within the limits of national and local laws.

It's the draw tonight and with us being in pot 2 this year we should get am easier group. I'm hoping to get Ajax or AEK Athens as have friends in Amsterdam and Athens so nice cheap away days for me. I'd be chuffed with a trip to AEK away tbh.

An easier group than last year so we can win it early and rest players in the last game or so to help us rest players for the league.

The season really has started!!! COYS!

Reus expected to miss Tottenham game

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc would not rule out Reus playing a role in Wednesday's visit to Wembley, but is not optimistic about his chances of making the squad.
"I think we will decide that in the short term," Zorc told Ruhrnachrichten. "But I do not expect a miraculous recovery before Wednesday."
There was some good news for Dortmund on Sunday as they welcomed Manuel Akanji back to training. The 23-year-old centre-back had been a regular starter at the start season but has been out since mid-December with a hip injury, though Zorc said the club will not rush him back into action. January signing Leonardo Balerdi was also working with his new team-mates following his move from Boca Juniors.
"It's nice that he's back on the pitch. Manuel is on schedule, but one must not forget that he has been out for a long time. It will take some time," Zorc said.
Meanwhile, Lukasz Piszczek, who captains Dortmund in Reus's absence, complained of a problem with his heel after the draw with Hoffenheim and will be assessed before he is cleared to play against Spurs.

Keeping them to ‘nil’ would be a good start.....the way we’re playing and somehow winning since Kane got injured, is remarkable. Stay in the tie for the second leg, Kane will be back and maybe Dele as well. Good stuff

From Ricky Sacks on the twitter machine
Tottenham Hotspur welcome Borussia Dortmund to Wembley Stadium but it won’t be a full strength team for the Bundesliga side. 4 BVB players out of trip: Reus, Alcacer, Weigl and Piszczek. Jadon Sancho and Abdou Diallo forget their passports.

Mauricio on Danny Rose's availability to face Dortmund: "It's impossible for him to start from the beginning. Tomorrow morning we will assess whether he can be on the bench and help the team."

What you couldn't make up is that I , Dorset Quixote, the man of Valencia, have forgiven this young man for his behaviour last year (or was it the year before, who knows?). He has been very good this season, almost back to being one of the best left-backs in the Premiership. I must be getting soft, this is a new feeling for me, forgiveness, it is unusual, I will have to be careful or I may contact the disease of empathy and that would piss me right off!

Manchester United have been very poor tonight.

It was coming mate, they got out of jail against Burnley, scraped past Leicester and if it hadn’t been for our front men having an off day against them at Wembley, they’d have got a hiding.

It will ultimately also mean that they put a bit more effort into the league games against Liverpool, City, Arse and Chelsea, assuming they don't beat Chelsea in the FA Cup this weekend. Injuries to Martial and Lingaard ain't going to help their cause though. They have a tough run in.

Bahamas Tax Haven v Holier-Than-Thou European Rectitude

Tottenham Hotspur

Owned by Bahamas-registered Enic International Limited owns 85.55%. Joe Lewis owns 70.6% of Enic. The Levy family own the rest. Lewis is the 32nd wealthiest UK citizen according to the Sunday Times Rich List and a tax exile in the Bahamas. Lewis’s first fortune came from the UK leaving the European exchange rate mechanism, which saw Lewis bet heavily against the pound in partnership with speculators including George Soros.

Value of club £960m (10th)
Revenue £379.4m (10th)
Net profit/loss £41.2m profit (2017)

Partners: Three official betting partners, including main sponsor AIA Group, an insurance giant listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange.

Borussia Dortmund

Owned by assorted German companies, the largest Evonik Industries AG at 14.78%. Plus 59.94% free float on the stock exchange.
Value of club £698m (12th)
Turnover £278m (12th)
Net profit/loss £25m profit (2017-18)

Partners: See themselves as a beacon of sporting morality. A while back Dortmund announced they had “rejected several requests for friendlies from countries in which the human rights situation does not align with Borussia Dortmund’s standards”. When Liverpool beat Manchester City the day before Dortmund’s AGM last year, the club’s chairman thanked Jürgen Klopp “for continuing the fight of the classic working man’s club against the sheikhs”. Despite all that, Dortmund have just launched a new Chinese office, toured China and have a Chinese website. China’s one-party authoritarian regime has been tightening its grip on its own people recently, quashing political opposition and dissent.

“We’re not saying who should and shouldn’t be buying into European football, but we want all clubs to understand that their overseas owners may be using the prestige of elite football to effectively ‘rebrand’ themselves.

“Instead of actually tackling abuse, many countries with atrocious human rights records have a habit of enlisting expensive PR firms – and football ownership can be another form of PR. ‘Sportswashing’ is likely to grow as the reach of global sport also grows, but at the same time fans and the wider public are beginning to look beyond the glamour of the star players and the bulging trophy cabinets.

“We would also call on clubs – the coaches, players, and backroom staff – to use their considerable influence to press for greater recognition of human rights.”

This does happen elsewhere. In Germany fans have protested against undue influences. Bayern have been censured by their supporters for cosying up to Qatar. Schalke fans have scrutinised the relationship with Gazprom. Ownership rules are enforced (for now) to prevent the majority buyout of what are still, on some level, community clubs.

Not so in England, one-stop launderette and fawning friend to the super-rich. Here the only protest against the ownership of any of the bigger clubs is probably the early anti-Glazer movement at Manchester United, or the rumblings against Kroenke at Arsenal, both of which were essentially protests against a lack of success on the pitch.

Plus of course it would be myopic to pretend the UK is above all this. It is an English vice in particular to see only the failings of others, to address the rest of the world from a position of bogus moral superiority.

Tough one. Fans and owners are very demanding....but at what cost?

In other news, turns out Sergio Ramos is a lying, cheating cunt. Who knew?
Ha ha he’s Madrid’s John Terry, every successful team needs a Ramos though, Roy Keane at United, Souness at Liverpool etc etc
