De Zerbi saying (again) that the players need to shoot more. Why aren't they if you're telling them to do it?

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi on his conversation with Mathys Tel after the 0-0 draw against Everton:

🎙️ Reporter: “Roberto, you went straight to Tel after the final whistle. What did you say to him?”

🗣️ Roberto De Zerbi: “I went straight to him because I was frustrated. I brought him on with a very clear instruction: make the runs, move the defenders, attack the spaces and give your teammates options.

But when he came onto the pitch, I didn’t see enough of that. He was too static. He was waiting for the game to come to him instead of making something happen.

I told him directly, ‘You cannot come into a game like this and disappear. I need you to move. I need you to make the defenders think.’

We were chasing a goal and I needed energy, movement and aggression from him. Instead, there were moments where he was standing in the same position while his teammates were trying to create something.

That cannot happen.

I’m not angry because he made a mistake. I’m angry because he didn’t do what I asked him to do.

At this level, talent is not enough. If I ask you to make a run, you make the run. If I ask you to move the defence, you move it.

You cannot help the team if you are invisible.”

To me the speed of thought around the box looks a little slow. Savio in particular. The opportunities are there and gone in a millisecond and it has to be quicker. I think the same might be said for the opportunities to play through the lines from deep. Just not clicking.

The whole stadium is shouting shoot, so if somebody like me (55 years old) can see the chance of a shot how can an athlete in their 20s not see it?

Getting sick of all the bullshit and bluster from the coaching staff, De Zerbi in particular

Not much he can say at this point that will make a difference, but the nature of the job these days means he has to say something.
