Sorry but I found myself not applauding when he came out at half time.

For the other 2 hours it was a fucking brilliant afternoon at Wembley, could have won 6-2 and the atmosphere was good, not and. Ever will be White Hart Lane, but we have it a good old go today....even had a bit of We're the Shelf Side/Park Lane and Glory Glory Hallelujah....

So good to not just beat but embarrass Liverpool eh @Yid .....

Bring on the Pikeys and Madrid, love this team and this manager, fantastic times being a Spurs fan.

Wow, you were there?

Was never a fan at all during his career (in fact I kind of hated him) but when my boys ask me who the best player in my lifetime was, there's really no discussion to be had. What always strikes them when I show them old videos (aside from how brilliant he was on the ball) is how defenders just kicked the shit out of him. Still, hard to see either Messi or Ronaldo looking like Jabba the Hutt at 56.

yes OFC!!,think wotspur,flump,don would have been there too?.Amazing evening,hoddle&maradona in tandem,it was a sight!Was a huge crowd too,the 80s were good times!!
The ball was like a magnet to him,he would run into a tight corner of 3 defenders and come out with the ball still,he really was a magician,he won a WC for a bang average team on his own.I reckon Pele was better?in a better team and a better charachter so that swings it for me?honestly messi, ronaldo arent close to those 2,the laws now favour those players, pele and diego played in eras when defending..anything went.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino: "I am very pleased. Tuesday in Madrid was an amazing effort and so was this, so thank you to the players.

"Our fans were fantastic it was an amazing game and we played really really well. We tried to control the game despite conceding a lot of the ball.

"We were clinical and so aggressive. It is so important. We knew very well that Liverpool would try to play and the plan worked. They are a gerat team.

"The team is starting to build confidence at Wembley. It is important to make this feel like home, it is key for us. It seems like we are starting to show that here.

"It is the third season that we are trying to catch someone. Manchester City are doing very well, they have an amazing squad and one of the best managers in the world. We see what happens, we believe, we will try to catch them. We are focused every day.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino on Sky Sports: "It was fantastic, a fantastic performance, the players were fantastic and we started very well.

"I am so happy for our fans, in front of Diego Maradona, Kobe Bryant... a fantastic day for us.

"Many things were pleasing this afternoon - the commitment of the players, the way that we play, the fans were fantastic, Wembley starts to feel home, that we can win here and the confidence is so important for us.

"It is important to try to play football, don't give them space. If you open the channel we will concede a goal, we made a mistake but I think it was a foul before that on Harry Kane.

"We are very pleased because we played well."

On Harry Kane's substitution: "He's tired, three games in one week and the effort was amazing from him. Harry Kane is a fantastic player, one of the best strikers, it's difficult to find words to describe him - he's unbelievable, so professional, the effort when we don't have the ball, everything is fantastic - so professional."

Who the fuck is Kobe Brian?

Yeah you're probably right....no reason to be taking the moral high ground, I just think he got away with a hell of a lot, not just the hand ball. His talent of course was unbelieveable.

Agreed. I was also there. Two things stand out in my memory from that game. That I saw the greatest player to ever play the game and also the only time I've seen big Pat play in a spurs shirt.

We're making an absolute mockery of the whole "we have a good first XI but not much else" line.

I saw the highlights on the box, if memory serves me well which it usually doesn't with my imagination filling in the bits I forget, didn't he do an overheard kick from the corner flag and crossed the ball in over 3 players heads? It's a kind if magic.

Fukcing great game to watch and it seems the Madrid performance has given us a serious injection of confidence.

We need to mercilessly arse rape the Pikies and show Madrid that were not just good for 90 mins.

Lloris yet a fucking gain made some crazy saves... Son is so undervalued... not by me I love the little Korean fuck.

Dele can now dictate the game from DM.... OK didn't see that coming...

Trips is still the best RB at Spurs by a long way.

I said somone is gonna catch a spanking when it all clicks... I still don't think it has totally clicked and we have still upped it to another gear....!!!

Fuck I love this side... I hope Levy and Poch do all they can to keep it together and build it even bigger and stronger.

The sky is the limit for these kids... we could win the fucking lot...

As everyone knows I don't know nuffink about tactics, formation and all that stuff. I like beautiful football played beautifully, even better I love football played beautifully by a Spurs team and game by game our football is becoming more beautiful. Football is the beautiful game and Spurs are becoming maestros. In our recent games I have noticed we are playing one and two touch football, is that good in a technical sense, do the experts in the other place approve? Fucked if I know, all I know is that it looks beautiful and is very effective, we are becoming the Real Madrid of the Premier League.

I don't care about the tactical stuff, it's like art, I go to a gallery and say 'oooh thats pretty' or 'that bloke is shit at painting horses', I don't care who the artist was. I think Klimt was a useless cunt and that Jackson Bollock the bloke who just threw paint on the floor was a very clever conman not an artist, I know what I like and I give no fucks about the technique or brushwork. Music, Mrs D took me to Wells Cathedral for a choir gig for my birthday once and I cried my eyes out because it was beautiful, then some cunt played the organ and it sounded like cats being strangled and I got in bother for telling the pretentious posh bint sitting next to us that is was total shit. I like wine that tastes nice, not because of the 'notes' or the vintage, I enjoy a nice pint or two of cold Piesporter in the summer despite the experts telling me it is shit.

I know what I like and I fucking love the way we are playing and improving, fucking love it!

Maradona special: The day Diego played for Spurs
Posted on 23 October 2017 - 18:15

Diego Maradona was back at Spurs on Sunday - over 30 years since he thrilled fans at White Hart Lane.

"Eez good shit no poochy"

diego730.jpg

The greatest player on the planet - certainly at that time - pulled on our famous Lilywhite shirt in a testimonial match for his compatriot, the great Ossie Ardiles, against Inter Milan on Thursday, May 1, 1986.

On Sunday, he was a guest of Ossie for our fantastic 4-1 win against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, where he was reunited with Mauricio Pochettino, 24 years after they were team-mates at Newell's Old Boys in Argentina.

Back at the Lane in 1986, Maradona turned up without boots, borrowed Clive Allen's and wowed the 30,000-plus crowd who turned up to honour World Cup winner Ossie.

Clive and Mark Falco scored as we ran out 2-1 winners with Liam Brady on target for Inter.

Below: Ossie and Maradona at the Lane in 1986

Two months later, Maradona produced one of the best individual performances in tournament football to inspire Argentina to World Cup glory in Mexico.

In the group stage, he scored one and provided assists for four of Argentina's six goals before scoring twice in the quarter-final against England - including the infamous 'Hand of God' goal - then both goals in the semi-final victory over Belgium.

There was one more assist as Argentina beat West Germany 3-2 in the final at the Azteca Stadium.

Here's what some of the players involved said at the time...

Glenn Hoddle
"The sheer magnetism of Maradona lifted the whole atmosphere. A staggering 30,000-plus crowd turned up for the match, and the kick-off had to be delayed for 15 minutes to allow all the thousands of fans in. Maradona and Ossie entered the stadium after the two teams to thunderous applause. It was clear the public were enthralled to have the chance to see a player of Maradona’s special skills, and he didn’t disappoint them. Of course he did not extend himself to the full, but I am a player whose philosophy is built around skilful football and I could not but admire this stocky little genius."

Chris Waddle
"I’ve never seen a better footballer. Never. He was by far the best player I’ve ever played with. In the game he did a couple of nice runs and a bicycle kick; he was quite quiet, but when you had the ball you knew you could give it to him and there wouldn’t be any problems. His touch was amazing and he was so strong. His change of pace and change of direction were incredible.

"We were saying to Ossie afterwards, ‘What did he think?’ When we were saying that, Maradona came up to me in the dressing room and shook my hand. And through Ossie’s translation, he said, 'very good player, he should play in Italy’. I thought, ‘Wow, Maradona’s just said I’m a good player’."

Below: Chris Waddle in action that night against Inter

dm730x500.jpg

Tony Galvin
"When we found out he was actually going to play, everyone got very excited. We were all queuing up for his autograph in the dressing room before the game. He’d never met the team before and we were all waiting for autographs. It was quite funny seeing all these footballers waiting with pens in the dressing room.

"You could really play one-touch football with him. When you play with top-class players like that, the one thing that always strikes you is their first touch; really top players have magnificent control of the ball. I remember a pass got really hammered into him and he killed it dead - he was clearly thinking about the next pass before the ball had even arrived. And when he ran with the ball it was never further than three inches from his foot - this is something you just can’t coach."
