Spurs were due to move into new 62,000-seat stadium at the start of this season but the project has been delayed
It means Spurs are preparing to play Premier League AND Champions League home games at Wembley until their magnificent new White Hart Lane home is fully ready.
Spurs have been forced to pay the FA a significant amount of cash to make sure they can remain at Wembley until building work is complete in their traditional north London roots.
They were supposed to be opening their new stadium on September 15 in a glamour game against Liverpool, but site insiders claim there is no chance of it being ready in time.
Levy is so concerned about the timetable that he has also told Uefa that Spurs could play their group games in the Champions League at Wembley.
An FA official said: “Spurs have taken up the option to come to Wembley for a number of Premier League home games and the home games in the group stage of the Champions League.
“However, it is still their intention to play their home games at White Hart Lane after the Fulham game (at Wembley).”
Spurs were given special dispensation by the Premier League to play at Wembley for one home game because construction work at the new White Hart Lane overran.
Now they are preparing for an even longer stay after activating a clause in a contract with the FA to play more games at Wembley.

Urgent stadium update

Following the release of the Premier League fixtures for the 2018/19 season, we announced that, barring any significant issues with the final stages of stadium completion, our match against Liverpool on 15 September would be the first match in our new stadium. Recent testing and commissioning has now shown issues with the critical safety systems.
Urgent follow-up meetings with Mace and the trade contractors are now taking place. We are reviewing the situation and planned timetable to rectify and re-test, after which we shall be in a better position to outline a revised timetable.
The delays created by these difficulties mean that we can no longer hold the necessary Test Events on 27 August and 1 September. These will need to be rescheduled to take place ahead of any first official match at the new stadium in order to achieve the safety licence.
In the meantime, therefore, our upcoming Premier League matches against Liverpool (15 September) and Cardiff City (6 October) will be switched to Wembley, as will the NFL match scheduled for 14 October.
Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “We know this will be disappointing for all our season tickets holders, premium members and our fans worldwide. We appreciate the support our partner the NFL has shown since the extent of this issue became evident today. At the start of the project we asked for your support during what we knew would be a complex and challenging build and now we ask for your continued patience and forbearance.”
Mark Waller, NFL Executive Vice-President, International, said: “Everyone has been so excited about the prospect of playing in the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and I know all at the Club are very disappointed, but determined to clear this final hurdle. We totally understand the issue. We shall continue to work with them towards making our future games at Spurs a huge success. The new stadium will be an amazing venue for the NFL and we are very excited about our long-term partnership with Tottenham Hotspur.”
Both domestic and European cup game venues will be determined following discussions with the relevant organising bodies.
We shall provide a further update in due course, along with ticketing details.

Thin end of the wedge....they have been careful not to give any reasons or hard and fast dates. It’s massively badly handled by the club who seem to be delivering bad news after bad news. I just wish that maybe once Levy would show a degree of honesty with the fans - the life blood of the club, rather than taking them for granted again. It’s a disgrace, not the overrun, that happens, the way it’s been handled over the past 24 months.....and I’m more of a Levy fan than most.

It’s an utter disgrace from a club that until 24 months ago had a generally good relationship with its fans. They’ve lost the plot across the board at the moment and seriously need to consider some positive but honest messages, that respect the support they receive.

They’ve managed to kill all the excitement and anticipation in one foul swoop. My fear is that we all vote with our feet and Wembley is empty for the first few games and the lack of atmosphere transmits to the players who lose form. Let’s hope not
