Very frustrating.....we simply didn't really take our chances all night. Dele was silly very poor challenge, but even with 10 men we dominated and should have converted that possession into goals.

I'm afraid that despite playing much better, hats off Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen in particular, we can't really blame anyone else, even a very poor ref, We could've, would've, should've won that.

I thought we actually played well but how many chances do we need to put fuvking teams away ?? So annoying and silly mistakes cost us games at this level admittly against a fairly poor team

Now that Ive calmed down a bit, Dele let us down tonight. Pure petulance. With 11 on the pitch we would probably have gone onto to win that imo. It was a big game and with the team Pochettino put out we were obviously taking it seriously. We needed calm heads in the heat of battle and men who were going to stay patient when things weren't going our way, Dele lost it tonight and he has history vs WBA last year. He has to learn.

Agreed but he is a kid and in his nature petulant. Glad the Gent lad didn't get seriously injured and I imagine Poch will be tearing Dele a new arsehole tomorrow morning, he did look rather pissed off on the touchline.

Yep. I don't think I'd want to be on the end of what Dele is going to get tomorrow.

That's it now though isn't it. Poch and the players have had 3 seasons in Europe, including Champions League, so we really ought to be more successful next season. I do think the Wembley issue has some merit, it doesn't feel like a home ground in any way, at least not yet, and thus we lose that advantage, combined with any opppsition upping their game because of the venue. But that still doesn't account for some of the self destruct errors. Maybe the larger pitch also plays a part, I don't know, but we're fast running out of excuses now, we played well and should be winning games like that.

" These players are a joke. Pathetic. There is no excuse. GENT are champions level at best. "

Has to be funniest thing i have heard in a long time

Cant fault the effort with 10 men, sloppy goal to give a way which killed as at that time i thought we get a 3rd

Can't fault the effort, even with 10 men we totally dominated the posession and attempts but we had left ourselves too much to do because of last week's failure to get an away goal - then we got desperate, too many wild shots going into row Z and Harry having one of those nights. On another day he could have and would have got at least a hat-trick.

The officials were clowns, absolutely fucking terrible. The only thing the ref got right was the red card. Out of order Dele, stop that bollocks or fuck off to Spain. I don't care how good he is, I don't ever want to see a Spurs player behaving like that.

Both their goals were crooked, the first one was a goal kick and the second came from what was an obvious Spurs free kick not given.Five fucking officials, 6 if you count the bloke the Poch was compaining too and they got so many things wrong, a total fucking joke. But we can't blame them, our players reacted like they did when Clattenberg fucked them over, and I think that could be in part due to us not having a proper captain to calm those hot heads down and channel their energy into football not tantrums. I don't think Hugo is the right bloke for the job, but I don't know who is, we don't have an obvious choice, so maybe I am talking bollocks as usual.

Wembley is a fucking terrible choice for us and I really hope Levy picks somewhere else for next season, even Milton fucking Keynes. Visitors to the most famous football stadium in the world are going to play every game like it was a cup final and we could get bottom buggered next season.

I love the Poch to bits, but I don't get two things. Why put Janssen on in the 89th minute again? If you want to build the bloke's confidence then give him at least half an hour. The other thing is this passing out bollocks.

We played some triffic football last night, they defended like fucking defending monsters. If we play like that for the rest of the season then top 4 is guaranteed and the FA Cup is as good as ours - the Wembley juju will be cancelled out for the semi and final.

Couple of really good points in there @Dorset and like you I'm very worried we're going to get properly stuffed next season at Wembley, we don't seem to be able to keep the intensity going - pitch size maybe giving opposition a bit too much space/time that we are simply not used to them having at WHL (that's my theory anyway). Thought we played well with 10 and asked enough questions to get something but giving them a goal start at home and the red card meant too much was left off others to do. Maybe Poch will bench Dele for the weekend as a lesson, I hope he does, I'd hate to see talent like that getting wasted in a horror challenge gone wrong ala Gazza.

I have thought about last night, and decided that whilst I dislike the result intensely, its not what we deserved on the night from the decent performance. For instance,I was lucky enough to be there for the west ham game where we played pants but in 3 mins squeaked out a 3-2 undeserved win, which i was delighted with as the bar staff in the bricklayers will testify to,but the performance was crap, same with wycombe albeit highly entertaining so I guess I cant complain too bitterly when fate takes a dump on my banofee pie.
25 shots and only 3 on target,FFS.BTW I thought wanayama was a class above dembele who has gone back into how he was 2 years ago, disappointing, must be time for Winks to start more in his place,he deserves it,and so does mousa.

Not sure what's cooking with Mousa at the moment, some games he runs on his own, drives play forward and dominates midfield. Others he's tentative, seems reluctant to take control and quite deep. Must be tactical I guess, but the former is great and there's been too much of the latter recently - he's way better at the attacking stuff than Wanyama, but it seems they're playing the other way around at present.

Only thing I can add is a bit of pessimism I'm afraid.

Wembley CAN'T be an excuse whenever the next time is we play there...

Playing in there should have been a fucking God send for the upcoming season and any cups we want to give a real go at winning....

Soz but Wembley is not an acceptable excuse from now on.

The rest of the deficiencies have been discussed at length so no need for me to dwell. Alli is a kid and you'd like to think he will learn to a degree.... I also secretly hope he won't so that no cunt tries to mug him off... he needs to keep that streak but be cleverer at seeking retribution...

I'd say unlucky tbh as we gave it a go and it come apart.... no complaints from me best twma on yhe night won.

Refocus, reshape and right the wrongs by thrashing stoke in a manner that will frighten teams... no matter who the personally is we need to graft and play hard as fuck...

Day off today so thought I'd jump on and have a natter.

*sighs* Last night was just a reminder in 90 minutes at how tough it is to be a supporter of Tottenham Hotspurs FC. We are the masters of self destruction and that is just part and parcel of football.

Got nothing obviously negative to say about the performance and how we played with 10 men, we showed guts and went for glory chasing down a game in reality we should never ever have been losing in. But we were. If these lot that played yesterday had showed half that commitment last week in the away leg, yesterday would have been a different story. But we didn't. So we move on. Again.

Just want to pick up on a few things.

Dele

He's young and at times young and stupid. He reminds me of my brother. If he'd come home to me last night I would have smacked him upside his head and made it clear to him that I was pissed at him and in all intense and purposes it's easier to chase a game down with 11 people on the pitch and not with one of our best talents sitting in the dressing room.Proper big sister bollocking. Next morning, give him a hug, remind him that I still love him even though he was a grade A idiot and tell him to apologise again to his team mates and tell him to get his head in gear and remind everyone why he's in the 1st team for the right reason.

He needs guidance and a strong firm hand to steer him. I've seen enough Dele Ali's in my time to know they need to be handled in a different way. It's his 1st red card that helped knock us out of Europe this season. He won't ever forget that, and he's also smart enough to know the fans won't forget it either.

On the red card itself, it was a sending off, no questions about that. *shakes head* Words fail me with regards to that referee though. I do find myself saying that alot though when we are playing in Europe. It should have been a foul on Dele with the first challenge but the ref let it go and well, we all know what happened next. No excuse though. We as a club have to learn how to play in European competitions. We just have to. 3 years with Poch and this gang and surely we need to have taken on board the way the refereeing differs to the PL, the fact that players are constantly rolling on the floor, the time delay tactics etc

Eric Dier

Will the real Eric Dier please stand up ? No. Ok then. Cause we really need to see that guy come back. The hammering he is getting from all angles is borderline satanic from people who call themselves Spurs fans. He's not playing brilliantly like last season because he is not playing in the same position he was playing last season. I don't understand why that is so hard for people to get their heads around.

Now this won't be popular *puts on helmet* but this isn't the asylum or that other place so hopefully people will just take this opinion as a pinch of salt. I'm venting. Leave me be. Why is it so hard to take Wanyama out the team and put Dier back in the position that he excels in ? We had problems last season granted, but the one place I personally thought we were solid in was the CM partnership with Moose and Dier. That was magic. Gold dust. The bees knees. Yet this season, simply because we bought Wanyama, Poch just seems to put him in that position where we don't need cover right now and displaces Dier back into a roll which is clearly destroying his confidence. Dier isn't a CB. Period. He can patch in during an emergency (and really he still shouldn't have had to cover Jan as we have a capable Wimmer in the squad). We call a player like Dier a 'fireman', sniffs out danger and puts it out before it reaches the back line. The lad was born to do that.

I have no issue with big old Victor though, I think he's a capable DM. But for me, he will always be cover and should be treated as cover to Dier or Dembele or Winks. I find his passing is a little off at times and to be honest he seems to confuse Dembele when they play together. It's almost like Moose doesn't know how far he can go forward as he always seems to find Victor has also moved forward. If they both move forward, who is shielding the back line ? This wasn't a problem last season as Dier had the discipline to know when to sit, when to step back and he also has a much better passing range.

I just feel that simply because Victor has come into the squad it is at Eric's expense. Maybe one of them needs a spell on the bench so they can compete in training and fight back for there DM spot in the team. There is nothing wrong with competition. It gets the club a better player. But trying to keep both lads in the 1st 11 is actually breaking one of them down more and that's not right.

I'll finish this later.

Personally, I am happy with either Wanyama or Dier in the DM role, also i agree that it's Dier's best position. Part of the scenario however is injuries to Vertonghan and Alderweireld this season, Wimmers drop in form and playing 3 CB's at times. This forces Poch's hand somewhat in using Dier as a CB. Also consider that aside from Dele, Wanyama and Dier have both made the most appearances this season so little opportunity to rotate them.

@Ted the Yid Totally agree with the injury thing. We've been smacked around the head with injuries this season and it sucks, but I still don't believe that is a reason to keep playing Dier at CB. Wimmer made a few mistakes, you won't hear me disagreeing with that, but who hasn't ? Surely Poch can see that Dier is not functioning properly as a CB. It's worse in a back four and most of the times we get away with it in a back 3. Wimmer has made mistakes but is that a reason to keep him out of the team and playing Dier there who clearly isn't coping too well and making equally ginormous mistakes. Surely it makes more logical sense to play an actual tried and tested CB as oppose to one who 'fills in' now and again. Only explanation I can come up with is that Poch has just gone off big Kevin.

All that being said (and moves me nicely onto my other point I was going to bring up) our mini CB injury crisis is (touch wood) over. Unless dog-tired or god forbid injuries again, Toby and Jan shouldn't not be broken up again. Which begs the question, where does Dier now fit into this team ? On the bench I hear most people shout. In a back 3 ? Back in his usual position besides Moose ? Who knows. IMO 3 at the back does not work at all if the fantastic Danny Rose isn't in our team. It just doesn't. Ben Davis is a defender. A decent one. But he's not Danny and we should keep in mind how brilliant Danny actually is and how when he's missing we just have a massive hole in our left side. Ben can not zip up and down the flank and get back to do last minute tackles. That's just not him. He shouldn't also be crucified by the fans for not being able to do that.

Our squad depth does bother me. We did a little spring cleaning in the summer and got rid of Mason and Chadli and bought in a couple of others in there place- and other than Victor, none of them can get into the main team and worse some can't even get into the 2nd string team. WTF did we buy these guys for. Players of the future ? Possibly. I don't see Sisisoko fitting that mind set. So why was be bought, an upgrade on Chadli ? A 'version' of Mane ? I feel for young Vincent. 89th minute to come on and change the game with four minutes to go. Really ?

Perhaps they all turned out not to fit into Poch system or way of thinking but it is interesting to see that we are spending money, just perhaps not spending it wisely.

You raise some interesting questions! Dier I think does work in a back 3 on the right hand side only....remember that's where he started when he came from Sporting Lisbon, before Poch re trained him. I think he's just a bit off form this season, maybe relearning being a CB in a defensive 3. After all we have the best defence in the league so it can't be all bad.

I don't understand the Sissoko and GKN transfers either, but that might be because they haven't really worked out yet? Just not sure what we are trying to achieve here....Janssen I get, he's young, hope it works out for him, but may not be until next season.

Transfers are tricky, hindsight is a wonderful thing and different managers see and want different things. What doesn't seem to be any doubt now is that with all the world class managers around us and big budgets, we are going to need to find and keep a few diamonds in order to be able to compete. So far we are doing that but we'll need a few more from somewhere .

Transfers are infinatly harder when you have a bonded team, wanyama has fitted like a glove, playing, socially, engaging with fans, sissoko is a weird one,a top earner, underperformer not sure how he fits in with the group as a personality let alone as a player.

I know it doesn't concern us but KAA Gent got KSC Genk in the next round....... which I found amusing. They are next to each other in the Belgian league and about 90 minutes drive away from each other.

Would have been a decent route to the next round if we'd have qualified too!

Just noticed that KAA Gent are losing 1-4 at home to KSC Genk their Belgian neighbours in the Europa League. Mildly annoying but hey ho....next year??

.....and Fazio has scored for Roma against Lyon....

I just seen that too. I chose to watch the all German game instead of Lyon v Roma...
