I much prefer the lonely training.
I tend to run at night when it is more peaceful.
I can challenge myself in terms of pace & distance but it also allows me to be alone with my thoughts.
Very therapeutic on both counts.

But like you with the potholes, there is a risk running on uneven grass (boulevards etc) at night..
Therefore, I tend to run on the sidewalks which is a lot harder on the joints.

Keep it up! Like Don, I'm with you too.

Yeah @Style And Glory there is somthing about those runs where you can just filter through all the daily shite and box off what needs to be boxed and prioritise other stuff.

Therapeutic is exactly what it is and apart from the cost of a pair of trainers and a bit of lycra (@Thfcire gets a boner) it's free and will make you live longer...!!!

So commenced week 3 of my programme tonight and to be fair apart from the pot......hole incident it's gone much better than expected. I àhve stuck to the prescribed paces reasonably well, much closer and more consistently that I thought I was able to do and looking forward to doing my weekend long run and breaching the half distance barrier for the first time this year. It shouldn't be any real drama as I boshed out a 12 slow this Sunday (was supposed to be 9 min miles but ended up around 830s) and had plenty in the tank.

Tonight was a shorter one of 6'ish miles with a mile warm up/cool down and 3 x 1600m intervals at 7 min mile..... That..... for a fat lad is fucking rapid...!!! I had 400m jogging rest between intervals so I made sure they were slow enough to alow my CR system to recover. Finished off the whole workout at an average of just over 8 min mile pace which is still well tidy without the intervals and rest periods.

The best bit about the plan I'm following is the variation in the types of runs/workouts I am doing. Before when I trained I just made sure I did the mileage at a reasonable pace that'd get me through the finish line in a target time..... well t took me 3 years but that approach doesn't fucking work.. not for me anyway. You have to train hard and faster and sometimes longer that you want to achieve. That way when race day gets here you àhve all the tools to cope with the hundreds of problems and changing parameters you may encounter.

I have a speed session, a strength session, a maitainence run, a loosener run and a long slow run. I do hills, circuits, intervals, fartleking, time on legs runs, races and every session occupies my brain and head space not a lowing me to focus too much on just how hard these sessions fucking are. Its brilliant that I'm actually doing a plan for runners who want to finish the race a full half an hour before my target time and I'm pretty much achieving it without any serious stress.

I still have my ultimate goal and I know I need to temper my own expectations as I'm only just starting week 3 but this plan and the training has made me seriously think about what I can achieve and about resetting the bar for my own physical performance.

Structured training suits me and for the first time I'm taking my own advice and following a plan...... it fucking seems to be working thus far... who'd have thought all these years I was right...lol.

I'm still here... I'm still running.

This week has been the first time I have felt reasonably comfortable.

16 miles on last Sunday, Tuesday 5 miles with 12 x 200M sprints, Wednesday 10 mile easy then Thursday was a 7 at half marathon pace.

All in all a Good weeks work.

Tomorrow sees me doing a little kick back week and bashing out a Half marathon. Nothing too quick just a getting it done run tbh, as it's been as cold as a mother fucker this week and will probably be the same next.

After this however we start the real, serious ascent to the crazy heights of 20+ mile training runs. A couple of weeks to get there but once there I have a month of basically surviving between Sunday long runs... it's gonna be seriously tough to cajole my body through this period but this is where you earn that marathon time, every leads up to this training block.

My fund raising is going reasonably well too I think we're at about 2'ish K which is great considering we've still got a Zumbathon to run and iv been roped into a charity football match 3 weeks before London (very short cameo appearance from me I think).

Managed to kill a pair of ultramarathon trainers too.... These fucking things cost 150 notes a pair...

One downside of this shit is clothes hang off me like I'm a fucking vagrant. I actually own skinny jeans... yup you read right.

I could be that cunt on the motorbike, lol.

Anyways if you can feel free to drop a quid onto my virgin money just giving page for Children with Cancer UK.

http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fun....action?userUrl=CWCUK&faId=760787&isTeam=true

Thanks.

I went to suppprt a friend this morning running a half marathon in aid of her brother who has Motor Neurone disease.

Absolutely freezing, hats off to the best part of the 2000 of you who completed it and ran through the pain.

Good luck Unit, big respect

17 today at around the 8:25 min mile mark..... Feel fuckin mint for it too...!!!

Lol.......... only 9 more to find...!!!

These miles at the weekend are simply crazy now and show no signs of letting up. Next weekend is a paltry 16 and it only keeps going in one direction after that.

I hit this week a little too hard and was not confident ping into today but it was a nice course I had a pal to run with and it just ticked off nice and smooth and in the end nice a quick too.

Another 45 miles this week and then I'm into the last 8 weeks and only 4 of those will be graft (all 50'ish mile weeks) as I'll be tapering down for the last 4.

Fund raising is going well to and iv somehow managed to get myself into a footy reunion match for charity..... A couple of weeks before London... it will be a very brief cameo appearance I reckon.

I just did. Blown hamstring. Out for weeks.

I honestly hope @Yid stays injury free & is able to give his best as so much time & effort is devoted to endeavour.

Then again, it is a lifestyle choice being fit.

Yeah tbh lads I'm more thinking about a couple of isotonic beverages post match to be honest.

It's a good excuse to meet up with a bunch of lads and also for a sherbert or two and another way to raise a few quid also.

Last week of the second block this week finishing with a 20 mile race this Sunday.

If I feel like I did this weekend for the 17 it should be no dramas as I had 3 more in me then no worries.

3rd block is the peak mileage and intensity block. Separates the boys from men bit.

Like I said above, it's a lifestyle choice.
Always been active & training.
If I don't do it I feel like something is missing & quite frankly I don't feel as well (mentally & physically).

Still playing football but now at rec level.

Had physio today.
Good news is that it is not torn (no bruising yet & no longer expect it).
Having more to do with skeletal/muscular alignment.
Some adjustment & needle work has alleviated most of the pain. Need lots of fluids. Can resume easy running in a day or two.
It's amazing how quickly they can get you feeling better & back out there nowadays.

Flexibility is the only form of fitness you are born with mate.

It's so vitally important to alow you "wiggle room" when shit goes wrong. If you get a bump, knock, hit a pothole, overt train, fatigue, change pace or almost anything else.

Being flexible alow you to better cope with those scenarios if/when they happen.

Your spot on about the heads space thing... I find that when I run I have an hour to rationalise others behaviour and my reactions to their behaviour. It gives me time to develop strategies to deal with people and situations without reverting back to the knuckle dragging ape I used to be and getting my way and point acros by being the loudest and most aggressive...

Makes me a better person and hopefully I will live longer...

You'd be absolutely shocked at the utter ignorance some people heve with regard their own health.

I had a guy complete some paperwork pertaining to his fitness to conduct some fitness testing and declare that he had a family history of heart conditions.... that's it no other info. That could have been mitigated to continue with the test if he had presented as looking after himself with regular exercise and being content to test. I felt somthing was wrong so I did further checks and it turns out this guy regularly gets a dull ache in his chest and tingling fingers in his left arm but it goes away with a bit of rest. He also admitted that he was diagnosed with HBP and stopped taking the prescribed stattins 10 years ago as he didn't like them. He hasn't visited the doctors for 7 years as he "isn't sure he will like what they say" (his words)..... FUCKING MORON.

I have hundreds of these stupid cunts who genuinely either dont give a fuck about their health or the consequence of their death or Ill health on others around them, or are so stupid that they'd rather live walking a tightrope between death and life.

I have a question regarding fitness, please move if not appropriate..
How do you get motivated?
After the wife incident in Sept she has zero interest in helping herself get any exercise at all, any excuse..it's raining, too cold, too early etc...
I believe I have a responsibility to help in any way I can but this is turning into a more of a mental thing in my view. Yes she is on 20 plus tablets a day and Dorset will hopefully back me up by confirming energy levels have dropped after an attack, but to be so close to the white light at the end of the tunnel to me should be a life changing experience and a reason to force a change.
Plus she's Italian so has a slight temper to deal with too...

Only exercise she does is the cardiac rehab ti chi class once a week for an hour.
She is 47, 8 stone dripping wet and has had a hip replacement 5 years ago..she plays on it every day and docs found nothing wrong. I need a positive pill !
How do you guy's do it ?

Reflecting on that a bit there are things you can do to increase motivation.

Trouble is its difficult as fuck with the trouble as I was having the exact same battles. In the end I told mine straight and stepped back. "I will still be here for the kids after you've gone, it's ok"..... yup full blown nuclear explosion barney but the effect was realisation that her destiny is in her hands and tbf until a few niggly injuries she got her arse in gear and sorted it out. We still find excuses but when she sees me going out in a storm and when it's snowing she knows herself they are horse shit and pipes down.

Advice:

Find somthing she likes... Start small. Something she has done before or maybe somthing she doesn't equate to exercise and genuinely enjoys. It can literally be anything and from there you can apply the principles of enjoyment and adherence that you develop to other disciplines.

Find somthing/someone she likes training/being with. This can be a vital one if you find someone to motivate you to go out when you genuinely cant be fucked. Time away to moan like fuck about you with some other bint usually works a treat. While she is out cook her suffin helathy and ask her how it went etc. You may get a blowie from this...!!!

Don't be the one to push.... try to lead or simply step back and lead by example. Be empathetic where you can but in the end while the truth may hurt it can often instill a resolve and stubbornness that evokes drive... and that is all you need. Not advisable to everyone as divorce and bankruptcy is sometimes a side effect...!!!

Talk to her quack... he will have seen this many times before and voice your concerns and desires... not the kinky shit this will get you a different type of bird...!!!

Set goals be it challenging ones or material ones... holiday... dress... bit of bling... the feeling of achievement of success will drive her on...

That's is £80 an hour please.

Very good advice from @Yid. Furthermore, I wanted to give it 2 ratings: agree & funny. Funny because I could just imagine the 'shit storm & fallout' of his comment to his wife.

@Sneeky On the simplest level, anything that can elevate your wife's heart rate will help. It is far easier if it is something that she enjoys or is interested in. But most importantly, it has to come from within. She has to want it.

Best of luck.

20 mile race on a windy undulating course ticked off in 2hr 47mins.

Don't feel like a zombie too much today either... I reckon this training lark may be paying off.

Very steady pace between 8.15/8.30 min miles...!!!

Ran a steady race with a mate and we had people streaming past us for at least the first 8/9 miles.... then they all started come back and some of them real fast.

Last 10/12 we were constantly hunting people down and taking them out having run a solid steady pace... felt very satisfying.

So that gives me an hour and 13 minutes to do the last 10k/6 miles..... and that's on a flatter more supported adrenaline buzzing course...

No trumpets yet but growing in confidence going into my next 20/22 mile run...

Those who can feel free to drop me a quid or two for Children with Cancer UK who I am Running and raising money on behalf.

Thanks.

Well that was very reasonable.

1:40:54

Gave it the beans left it all out there tbh...

Fantastic race shame the weather was absolutely shit. About 6 degrees and drizzling. Oh and the baggage pick up was so badly done that everyone had to stand in the freezing rain after slogging their arses off for over a fucking hour...

9000 runners around the historic city center of Cambridge.

Rule of thumb for marathon times based on half pace is to double it and add 10 minutes...

Not to put the pressure on myself too much...!!!

So apparently there is this thing... where when you are properly fucked... you body won't sleep.

I ran with all I had today and am please with what I achieved... but while I'm fucked tired I literally can't sleep for shit.

I know it's somthing to do with Cortosil and andrpholene (or some shit like that, it's like the opposite of adrenaline or summat).

Basically my hormones are screwed and I won't sleep... Yay.

Maybe i should try knocking one out...?
