We controlled the match & then decided to sit back with a one goal lead. Only to start playing once we got scored on. Knock them out, then sit back.

40 minutes of total shite in the second half, we didn't start playing until Palace equalised. We deserved fuck all and got one point more than fuck all, which in my opinion is the story of the season. We could easily have lost that by a few, fuck off Mourinho, if you can't do better than that with the squad you have then you are not the man we need.

This! Why did we stop attacking ? Yes, we can go on about their keeper but for fuck sake, dont forget the only time we did actually score was as a result of one of the softest goals you'll see in the PL this season.
Getting results against the scum, the chavs or City means sweet fuck all if we cant bury the likes of Palace. 2 needless points dropped again and all because we sat back and invited the opposition on to us....

Fucking Mourinho - Why not keep playing at 1-0 up.....It’s Palace - we score a second, maybe a third and if we let one in so what? It’s ridiculous trying to protect a 1-0 lead. Total bollocks game plan.

Well said by previous posters.
No idea why we don't push on when were playing so well.
We could have buried them yet let them grow into the game.

Leading by just one goal & deciding to sit back is so risky. Your relying on every one of your 11 defenders to execute perfectly. All it takes is for one mishap & your lead vanishes. We got what we deserved when we could have done so much better.

We must watch different games, could have been 5 nil if not for their keeper. they had a 20 minute spell before Hugo’s mistake. The rest of the game was complete control by us.

I think Jose becomes an easy target when things don’t go well.

No. Same game.
We generated a few good chances prior to Kane's goal & then again after we conceded. But in between, we were impotent for 50 mins. Our chances came when we actually played on the front foot. We didn't counter well as we were too complacent.

If we had kept playing, don't you think we would have had even more good chances?

Yes we must have watched different games because I saw 35 minutes of good play in the first half, 40 minutes of appalling dross with aimless long balls, unable to keep the fucking ball for more than two passes and desperate defending, followed by about 10 minutes of reactionary good play after they equalised. Of course Jose is an easy target, he's the fucking manager and the buck stops with him, and things have 'not gone well' in so many of our recent games.

Have some of you guys not been watching us over the last 2 years?!

Yes, I agree we should’ve gone for the kill, we played some good stuff in the first half, and had the opportunity to kill them off, if we’d continued to play like that in the 2nd half but I really don’t see it as negatively as some of you see it. We’ll forget we’ve just played City, the best possession based team that the pl has almost ever produced, a Chavs side that have the best squad in the pl and a NL derby where we were 2 up and decided to not threaten that by shutting up shop and not letting the opposition in, a fairly decent argument to put up, given the points we dropped only a few weeks prior against Wet Spam when being 3 up.

Shall we also forget that we put 5 past 3rd placed Southampton, 6 past Utd and a scintillating first half against Wet Spam, leading to the most goals Spurs had scored in the league up till the 9th or 10th game of the season since the 60s.

I don’t know about you guys but I was in a dark place when Mourinho was appointed, the best manager I had seen at Spurs had just been sacked, but in all honesty and despite the smiles he put on all our faces, we were abysmal for the last 10 months under Poch, and romance and heart aside, it was the right move.

Mourinho comes in, and in less than a year, he has us top of the league, over a Liverpool side that destroyed everyone last season, who just dropped points against a Fulham side who are just above the drop zone.

I have a deep rooted hatred of Mourinho but I will continue to back him, if it even gives us a sniff of a title challenge, or we go deep in any domestic or European trophy.

I get the negativity, we’re Spurs fans, we fucking hate Mourinho, the man’s a cunt and we don’t agree with his football philosophy at all, but and no pun intended, i’m prepared to ‘park that’ philosophy, in the hope we can get some silverware, so we can actually brag about something of substance, rather we play great football and win fuck all, give that back to me after we’ve won something.

Mourinho’s a serial winner, I’ll back the guy until things go pear shaped but top of the league after 12 games, q/f’s against Stoke in the Carabao cup and seeded going into the last 32 of the Europa Cup, is not a time to throw my toys out the pram because we played defensively against the aforementioned teams and a 35 minute spell against a pretty decent Palace side, who will cause big teams a few problems and who also had some fans back in the stadium, which does give a team motivation.

I WANT A TROPHY!!

Also, Arse are currently 15th, it’s really not that fucking bad!

@Chavhater01 I agree with much of what you said above. There's plenty to be pleased about thus far this season. By no means was Jose my first choice & neither was Poch but he brought a great deal of joy to my fav club. I'm open minded. I'm backing him but just question some decisions.

I just feel that Palace was a different beast to Arse. Can't apply the same tactics. We knew last week that Arse could cross the ball another 40 times & they wouldn't threaten us. Go & watch the grass grow comfortably knowing the result would be secure. Allowing Palace to do the same is much riskier with their aerial threat.

Lots of talk about us leading & conserving energy by defending deep. Ironically, you could be exerting more energy moving side to side & vertically defending & trying to keep your shape. Alternatively, keep the ball & make them exert themselves to get the ball back. They're the ones that need it in order to score.

Fucking furious with that. Played our best football of the season for 30 minutes, scored and then sat back for the next hour. We got what was coming to us and as you say, probably a point more than we deserved.

What in the actual fuck is Mourinho doing?

Mate, when you get 7 points against City, Chelsea and Arsenal but drop points to teams like fucking Palace regularly then you don't deserve nice things like trophies. We should on top by 6 points and favourites to win the thing right now but we keep giving up points that should be in the bank.

It is no good beating the likes of City but continuing to fuck it up against West Ham, Newcastle and Palace. Fuck me.

Really good post. I understand the argument and the context, I like that we’re top of the league and top of our EL group. I like the fact that we’ve signed some good players for little money like Hojbjerg and Reguilon. I like that Bale is back and that we’ve had some extraordinary results....but when you’re top of the league, you should be proud as punch, walk round taking the pods out of your mates because we’re so good and they’re so bad. But, with a couple of performances aside, United away and Southampton away most notably. We’ve been terrible to watch. It feels like we’ve just worn teams down and got a goal or two that we didn’t really deserve - WBA, Burnley, Brighton, LASK ffs... Mourinho is doing what Mourinho does, winning games ugly. I just don’t like winning like this. Sorry.

So basically we concede a fairly mental injury time penalty against Newcastle, concede a once in a blue moon 3 against West Ham late on and play poorly for 35 mins against Palace, where their goalie pulled off some worldies, yet everything’s shit!

I get it, this is all about Mourinho and nothing else.

If Poch was in charge still, and we had played the exact same way and got the exact same results as we have this season, then there wouldn’t be anywhere near the amount of negativity.

Every point is so precious as there are only 6 points that separate the top 9 teams (and the Manc teams at the bottom have a game in hand). Apart form EL, many games have been navigated well (Chavs 2X, ManU, Citeh, Arse, Southampton) but I believe the Wham match has had considerable impact on Jose's approach. We were playing much more freely up until that 10 min 2nd half debacle. Plenty of open play & goals for. Since then, he's squeezed the club's collective anus so tight, it's difficult to walk let alone play.

We've gained points this season which I feel we wouldn't have under Poch.

I sense that once Jose feels we have that winning mentality & discipline, he'll once again loosen the reins.

No, that's not it at all.

Explain to me why we played sparkling football for 30 minutes, got the goal and then sat back until Palace scored. Explain to me why then we decided to push on again. We fucking sat back and invited this mob into the game...and we did it for an hour.

That was amateur crap and terrible management. And that assessment would apply to Pochettino had he done the same.

But Poch never played that way and you know it. His mistakes were largely because we pushed on too much at times. I think we'd all rather err in that fashion than gift the other mob the ball and the territory.

For me, Poch had to go. Things had gone downhill quite a while before the end. When Jose got the job, it took me a while to have my jaw wired shut for several reasons....however..
He has got Kane playing better than I've ever seen him. Same with Dier. He's turned Ndombele around and signings like Reguilon have added to it. BUT, I dont understand why, when you're playing and dominating a team like Palace or West Ham or Newcastle do you immediately retract into defensive mode when you go 1-0 up ? This isnt Liverpool, City, or the Chavs...teams that can hurt you if you're not solid, but if you're controlling the game, have sustained possession and look comfortable, WHY would you then sit back and invite the below average opposition on to you, and give them the chance to knick something, when all you need to do is keep doing what you're doing ??
I'm not anti Jose...I'm not his biggest fan at all, but fuck me, I just wish he'd trust the players to finish these teams off.....

We didn’t sit back for an hour. They had a very good spell for 35 mins in the 2nd half up to when they scored.

If Jose ordered them at h/t to sit 10 men behind the ball, which I highly doubt then we were still guilty of just hoofing aimless balls downfield, when there were options available.

Anyway, my point wasn’t just about today, it’s the season in general. There’s been an awful lot of negativity, yet when Poch was sacked a year ago, who would’ve even dreamt about topping the league a year later?!

Jose’s here to stay whether we like it or not, it’s gonna get very draining heading all the hate every time we take our foot off the gas and/or the players aren’t on it. Fuck knows what’s gonna happen when we fall of the perch! Blame Jose all you want but the players were poor on the ball during their decent spell in the 2nd half.

On reflection.... their goalkeeper made 4 top level saves... another day we walk off with 4 or 5 goals and Hugo doesn't be a twat and deals with a cross...!

We had a shit spell where we didn't do enough and allowed Palace to get into the game instead of either keeping going at them full tiltbor parking the bus.... we did neither and thats when they got back into the game.

Still top of the league and we have a 6 pointer next weekend.

Oh and Hojberg after the game was nice to hear.

Sorry mate but we must have been watching a different game. What I saw was a smashing 30 minutes, a Spurs goal and then a bus parked for the next hour, save the last 5 minutes where we were on the front foot trying to win it after gifting them enough ball in their attacking half to get at least an equaliser and arguably more. We were very lucky to walk away with anything in the end. There was no reason to sit after we took the lead, we were bossing the Christ out of that game...but as soon as Kane got the opener we collectively dropped 15 yards deeper and started playing hoof ball. It's bullshit, it's cowardly and I don't want to steal games off more courageous opponents in that manner. We were playing Palace FFS, not Bayern Munich or Manchester City.

We all know Jose is here to stay but I am not going to put one toe into the trophy at all costs camp that seems to be where a few have landed. With the attacking threats that we possess it gets on my tits seeing Kane and Son in our defensive third for as long as they are every week. This smash and grab style we are playing will be worked out soon enough and Jose had better come up with a plan B pretty fucking quickly.

From Jose's post game interview, I'm led to believe that he did not order them to sit back. It somehow just happened. But if it was something that he did not want, I didn't get the impression or see him urging them to continue attacking. He seemed content.

Given our schedule, it may be hard to sustain that level of intensity game in, game out but we have a deeper squad to contend with fatigue. Furthermore, I do believe we have the quality to protect a lead by retaining the ball & dictating play by simply "playing keep ball". Instead we "turtle" in front of our net. And as Crypty & others have said, let's start acting like a top team that we are by taking it to these lesser sides. Clubs like Bayern, Juve & even Ajax let these teams know who is boss by the way they play (with the ball). Why don't we?

I watched a game where we great for 30 mins, then until Half time, both teams had a decent spell on the ball, and as I said 2nd half, they were good for 35 mins. If we sat back for an hour, how do we end up with 57% possession?!

I get where you boys are coming from, I totally do. I want us to stamp our authority against teams and put them to bed when on top but and as @Style And Glory said, I think the West Ham game put the shitters up Jose a tad and he’s reverted to type a little.

The man deserves some credit though, we were a soulless team a year ago, at least we’ve got a beating heart again. We don’t have a Dembele or an Eriksen to control games like we used to, so the idea that we’re going to dominate every game we go into is a bit fanciful. Palace got a foothold in the game in that 2nd half, they were at home, with a couple of thousand fans cheering them on, it makes a difference.

Anyway, the only real difference between you and me mate, is that my hatred for Mourinho has been compartmentalised and yours is still very active!! We all want great football, but the reality is, we’re unlikely to be seeing it as much as we want, i’ve accepted that for my sins, well until things go Pete Tong!

I think there’s a bit of truth in that... we don't have the players in midfield to unpick sides... Ndom can do it in spells for an hour at a time, but we need a Modric type talent who can do it all day long every weekend. I'd say that player whoever they may be also needs to work like a madman to get in the side because Dele could be that player he just doesn't do it how Mou wants him to do it.

Look all said and done the football for was better for a spell and not as good for another spell... Palace in the end probably deserved a point because we let them back into the game.

We're still top of the league, and we have an opportunity to take some points from those dipper slags on Wednesday (thanks @skiathospurs).

Thats a game I never like loosing so as long as we don't, I dont give a shit if we bring 2 busses...
