At this point I hope Ange’s job isn’t in jeopardy. Just about everyone other than Liverpool has struggled to find consistency this season. There are a lot of very good teams in the PL, maybe more than ever. Much harder to play poorly and win like the top teams used to be able to do.
Anyway, if the club are going to give the manager a fair crack of the whip it will take at least another window.
I think he'll be ok until we get knocked out of the Europa or League Cup. Then he'll defo be in the firing line.
Ange has been a breath of fresh air. He's a nice guy. We can't forget that. His philosophy on tactics has to be admired and respected....however...it doesn't work anymore. It has a very short lifespan in the PL because of the quality of the opposition. The high line tactic is great if you have a side that'll come out and play, but if you've got a side that are determined to stifle you and clatter you and plug the holes, we have no answer. That's because Ange won't change it.
Admirable but nieve.
Our midfield is poor. No steel at all, yet we sell Hojberg. That type of no nonsense anchorman midfielder is an essential part of today's game, yet we don't have one...and guess what, either does Celtic. No need for one up there because the opposition doesn't have the quality.
I hope he turns it around but I think he has to swallow his pride and be a bit more tactically diverse in order to grind out results when they need grinding out.
Having said ALL that. I blame Levy. He's done wonders in terms of the stadium, new avenues of revenue with the NFL and other events but it's the same old story on the pitch. A top top side with big ambitions to compete at the top does not buy Solanke. It does not have a keeper like Vicario, it does not sign Werner. It looks at a higher shelf, we never have under Levy.
