2nd 20 miler today.... and it was a cunt of a run.

I woke up late as my alarm didn't go off and it took me a few miles and half a dozen snot rockets to sort out my breathing.

My pal and I went out again and I knew he was struggling from about half way (he's had a few days off with a niggling hip injury) so we slowed it down to run the 2nd 10 at what is considered a slow pace. First half in around 8:30's and the second no quicker than 8:45's.

About 14 in and he wanted to stop and stretch stuff off. Not an issue so we did that... it didn't work and the pace and issues were magnified and it was in his head that he was injured and stopping was an option. We carried on slowly until he slowed towards 16 and somthing else was hurting. While this may well have been the case it's one of those mental games your head does you over with when fatigue sets in. I left him for a mile and a half and went off quick so I could double back and chivvy him along towards the end.

I personally wasn't feeling great as 2 weeks of racing have definately left me tired and on the cusp of another period of either adaptation or niggling injuries.... I'm hoping the former.

I got the 20 done in a 2:52 which is shite compared to my 20 race time of 2:47 but it was supposed to be a bit slower so that the fat burning systems are taught to do their thing.

Need a week of lower intensity so that I can hit the next 2 20+ runs at a more consistent pace.

13 this coming Sunday so that'll be a nice rest the 2 more weeks graft u til the taper starts and I can start to think about how this 16 weeks of training have transformed me into a much much better runner..... and what may be achievable with a bit of rest, decent fueling, and good race plan and a bit of luck on the day.

Very sedate midweek tbh and I think I needed it. I felt tired after the last few weeks of racing. Still managed to clock up 23 miles with another 15 dropping in tomorrow morning but over all that is around 10% shorter that the previous weeks.

It's ok tho as next week is my biggest week and the absolute peak in terms of volume. 53 fucking mies will see me topping off next weekend with a 22 mile run...

I'm gonna be double fucked...

The biggest change in my running this year is the pace that I am able to run at and maintain over medium to moderate disgances. I know there are still weak spots that I need to work on. I know iv still got a good 8 kilo with some very clean eating to strip off but that'll be a job for next year. I need to work on my flexabiliy and ability to attack and manage hills better. All little things that will help to shave off a few more % and improve my performances.

I think one of the biggest positive things is that for my kids I am normalising fitness and dedication to a cause. They see me going for a run and they understand why I do it. The understand health and they understand that there needs to be a balance between indulging and fitness. They go to junior park run and strive to better their times without much in the way of pressure form me or the trouble.

They also understand that people get Ill or need help and sometimes it takes other people who are able to step up and help them. They want to get involved and they want to help where they can. It's not an awerness I had at their ages because I was not shown that example.

Just over 2 grand raised for CWCUK, which in all honesty is a bit dissapointing. I suppose asking the same people year on year to hand over their cash and when the country is in fkux with all the political turbulence may be why were not doing as well as we have previously.

If you can drop me a quid or two.

Thanks

15 didn't happen.... 13.1 did but I was done.

The head wasn't willing so I pushed my body as far as I could. Simply a case of my head winning this battle and making it hard. I don't suppose I cant complain too much as this is the first time my head has thrown a wonky and won. Bit shitty that it decided to do it just before the peak training week where I'm gonna have to do some very deep digging but it was what it was and I simply need to leave it where it ended and run my weeks training however I feel they need to be run to get over this psychological hump.

The wind and rain didn't help and the general lethargy set in after about 3 miles.... so doing another 10 was still a decent effort.

Gotta focus on this upcoming weekends long.....Long run. Longest of the prog and although there is another 20 miler the following weekend it will be TAPER TIME....

This is where the mileage and in testy starts to wind down a bit alowing me to recover form the accumulative fatigue so that I'm rested for the full 26.2 miles...

Nearly there...

Welllllll..... I dipped this week a bit as the half at the weekend felt so hard.

I did an 8 @70%, a 6 @60% and a 4 @50%... it's a few miles short but it leaves me fresh for this weekend's monster longest run.

Little drop of 3 miles tomorrow and then 22 miles Sunday. Yup I'm right in the fucking dogs house as I'm not there to facilitate the kids spoiling their mum.

Think I'll finish this week around the 40 mile mark so it's still around the same mileage...

Fuck me was I in the dogs house... still am.

Anyways the run was good. 3 mins slower than my last 20 miler but this was supposed to be an easy run. I still managed to run an average of 8:29 which is faster than my target pace range of 8:30-8:45.

I started to get a niggle behind my knee that I assumed was my hammy tightening up. It turns out (after a sports massage last night) that it was actually my gastrocnemus that also crosses the knee joint. So I decided to ditch the extra 2 miles. Not a huge issue and if I want k could tag the 2 miles onto this weekend's 20 miler.....!!!!!

This week sees me commence the last week of serious training. Intervals tonight 8 miles with 5 x 1 mile intervals at a very quick 7 min mile pace... it proved a bit too sharp for me to consistently hold but I managed to work at the 75/80% effort the prog asked of me. 9 miles easy as a recovery run tomorrow that I will try and run at the stated 9 min miles.

25 days to go.....!!!!!

Mate you do realise that in spite of all the personal pain you have endured, the fantastic cause and money you have raised for charity and all your Herculean efforts detailed on here, that weekend no-one is going to give a shite because it's all about the FA Cup semi final with Chelsea ;). Good luck Yid

Yeah I know mate... I was half thinking about trying to get a ticket as I'm in London for the Sat as well as the race on Sun...!!!

Trouble is if we won (or lost tbf) I'd 1,000,000,000,000,000% get fucking lagging drunk celebrating.

Dunno if that is ideal race prep, lol.

I think I'll probably prop up a bar somwhere with a glass of water and a bowl of pasta...

I've turned into such a boring cunt, lol...

So penultimate week of training and the taper seems to be giving me my legs back a little. I'd
imagine they'd be feeling absolutely banging if I hadn't have played in a charity football match last Friday night before my last long run on the Sunday (15 miles).

Honest to fucking god, I stopped playing about 5/6 years ago because I was doing too many weights and couldn't do what I used to be able to and was becoming and absolute liability due to my own frustration and a shit load of testosterone...!!! Angry Yid did not enjoy playing football, so a binned it.

I WAS A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF FUCKED AFTERWARDS..... I still have bits hurting that I didn't know I had... my back is still a little crooked and my groin is as right as a guitar string and in hindsight..... What a fucking stupid decision it was..... hey but we raised £400+ for charity so all in all it was a good night catching up with old pals and I did half enjoy being out on the field again.

The Sunday afternoon (after the 15 miler, slow as fuck) saw me run a Zumbathon event. It's basically fucking fast dancing to music... it's like a nightclub rammed with women sweating their tits off without alcohol... it was a great event and landed another £1100 quid for charity.

All in I'm about £60 off of reaching my target where I have to man the fuck up and complete my challenge.....

As there is a team of 3 of us running and raising cash for Children with Cancer UK we sectioned the fundraising into 3 with each of us getting a milestone and personal challenge when we met it. We smashed a grand sharpish and my mate (who filmed me last year ensuring the same punishment) for his entire front waxed..... next was my other pal who agreed to get himself pierced once we for to 2 grand..... that's booked in this week..... then there is my challenge when we hit 3 grand..... I have to have a colonic while being broadcast live on Facebook.....

To say im shitting myself ia an understatement...... I genuinely would not wish it upon anyone to go near my arse..... let alone inserting their Henry the Hoover up there and sucking all my shite out..... while being filmed.....!!!!!

I'm now starting to wish inhad simply opted for the tattoo as opposed to this horror show.

If you can..... and want to see my bowels hovered out..... drop a quid or two here lads..... I appreciate all of tour support and hope those who have taken the time to keep up with and read my journey this year have found it interesting. It's been fun doing it in a kind of blog to keep track of the narrative of what I have achieved....

Mate, how many times do you have to be told to keep of the driving range?

To play football that close to the marathon is either really brave or really stupid. I was questioning whether i ought to play five a side the day before a big Foosball (or table football as i always thought it was called) match in the canteen at work. I wouldn't dream of playing just before London after months of training. Anyway, glad you got away without getting a serious injury.

Enjoy the taper - you've earned it. You've put in the hard miles and at a great pace too. I've been well impressed with the runs you've been recording. You've got to be on for a massive p.b.

Truth be known mate I'm clearly a fucking whopper... but as it was for charity it would have been a poor show for me to not lace up my boots for 10 mins and expect everyone else to run around like loons raising money for my charity.

Lol keep off the range... just had the old bill on the blower who are appealing foe witnesses...!!! There was about 50 fucking motors In the road waiting to get past... I'm still in shock.

So t minus 7 days and I'm in trouble.

Fuck knows why but my back has thrown an epic wobbly and I'm currently shuffling round like I have shit myself.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement but I'm not giving in yet. Iv had a load of treatment and got more booked into release the troublesome muscles that have spasmed causing jy pelvis to tilt out of alignment.

I'm not giving in yids but things are a little on edge.

I won't loose any fitness in a week and to be fair if things turn around I feel fresher that I have done in months.

If you talk to the sky faries have a wee word for me as I need all help I can get.

3 miles ticked off this morning before driving up to London. Safely in the travel lodge now thinking about food and a snooze....

Back is about 80% there so it's happening.

Positive thinking and a smart approach to tomorrow. Oh and the thought of sitting in a boozer for a few hours thisavo to watch the Lillywhites march on to the FA Cup Final.

3:57 lads.

I post later now celebrating...!!!

Mate, that is a massive achievement, well done. Running the race is one thing but all that training and commitment is another and a time like that is another thing all together.

Oh, and in doing that, you help sick kids and raise awareness about sick kids.

That in itself is yet another thing.

Congratulations.
