I've been having a think about this 'back up' striker thing for Kane and obviously, although not definitively, we missed him (and Toby) during October/November last year. We and the media consistently go on about having a second striker, because of the above scenario, and we bought Janssen for this purpose last Summer, but I think almost every team is in a similar position.

We have Dele and Son as 'back up' strikers if you like, together with Janssen. Chelsea have Hazard, Willian and Pedro with Batshuyai. Arsenal have whoever if Sanchez is injured. Liverpool have a few and City have Jesus, de Bruyne, etc.

So actually all the top teams only have one striker, but all have a great support cast - Everton only have Lukaku.

Point being that maybe the support/back up striker is not so crucial? because is it going to make any difference - you're not going to get anyone decent to simply sit on the bench, waiting for Harry to get injured. Kane clearly doesn't need motivating, so who do we buy or do we now that he has a years experience keep Janssen. I'd say keep Janssen and find a youngster like Dembele at Celtic. Iheanacho at City? The more pressing need might be for Eriksen/Dele understudy, quality centre back cover and maybe right back? Poch will know.

If we sign another pacy French left winger I'll go mad ha ha

Must admit, City might be naive enough to sell us Iheanacho, who seems to have fallen down the pecking order in favour of Sane and de Jesus... I think Dembele 2 has sailed as a ship, could see him ending up at Monaco if they get raided. However, he would be rather interesting... but I think Celtic would be looking for something starting with a £3 and ending in million. Which probably prices us out.

I think we could upgrade big Kev, he's pretty solid, but he's not quite the fit we need.

We come out of the summer with a backup CB and a backup striker, that's probably all we need, I really hope anyway. Quiet summer, quality squad improvements are all we really need. Still undecided if we ship off Sissoko, seeing as quite of our players have season two turns, and if we get the Sissoko of the Euros, I'm fine with that.

On the plus side, I think if you think purely about pure footballing reasons... there are now real tangible benefits to coming to join Tottenham, we must be on the cusp of the anti establishment teams (you know, the perennial not quite the super rich of their respective leagues),like Atletico and Dortmund. Hungry, good, want to prove yourself? Join us. You're going to play CL footy, in Wembley, and the entire league there, in an exciting, high scoring, defensively strong team... with some certainly edging on world class talent. Then we move to a superb new home, with excellent training facilities.

I'd love us to make a statement of intent. Doubt we'll do it though. But let us see.

I'd offer Sanchez CL football.

Though talented, do you really think he would fit into Poch's scheme of things?
For me, he seems self centered & so very temperamental with the focus being on the last two syllables of that word.

If you had a choice (ignoring his gooner roots) between Sanchez, Son and Lamela, who would you choose?

Uncomfortable?

I say Son!

Here are some stats that makes my argument correct beating in mind Sanchez would not want to sit on the bench and will cost a lot in wages and transfer and is also a bit of a twat.

Not a lot in it really is there?

Also Son was the only player to win player of the month twice this season.

Good question.

Sanchez is extremely talented & has a good work ethic but I have my concerns.
Donny, if, & that is a if, Poch can get Sanchez to do the following:
1. track back & defend (rather than chase a little after he loses the ball)
2. man up when things get tough
3. if not eliminate, at least improve on his pathetic play acting / diving
4. stop sulking (especially on the field when he doesn't get the ball ALL THE TIME)
5. show the character of a winner

Further to #1, it relates to how often he gets dispossessed. I'm not too concerned about the rate per 90 mins, which is high, because you want your attackers to try & take on defenders. Add to this that he's been more of the focal point of attack this season which means he's collecting the ball deeper. My problem with Sanchez is how often he's lost the ball in his own half. It leads to living dangerously & complicates play as there are far too many transitions going the wrong way.

And finally, it was a very difficult for season for Wenger. I didn't see Sanchez step up & be a consummate pro & team leader by example to relieve some of that pressure on Wenger. He showed very little of the character that is desired at this level. He looked to do just enough to save himself from more criticism.

All in all, I guess it comes down to being a real 'team' player. I just don't see that.
I may be harsh on him but I see him more as a disruptive force rather than a constructive one.

Makes you wonder why Barcelona let him go so easily.

And don't get me started on Ozil...

Sanchez was playing in a mediocre team, chuck him in our team and I think he would tear it up. The guy works hard and yes he's looked fed up at times but I think that's largely down to the useless cunts around him. Any player coming to us would find it very hard not to buy into the team ethos and given the quality of players around him, I think he'd be insanely good.

Saying all that Sonny's had a season beyond my wildest expectations but Sanchez is a step up in quality but as @Ted the Yid said, would the massive increase in wages be worth it, who knows, well we'll never know!

It would be bloody funny to buy him off them, imagine the reaction of the woolwich followers.

I agree with you about those players around him.

Probably frustrated the hell out of him.

Monaco's 18-year-old France forward Kylian Mbappe has told any interested clubs he will only move if he is guaranteed regular playing time. (Bein Sports)

That is the type of player that would make a noticeable difference, plus he is only about 16 and three quarters in age.....Get Hugo and Victor Wanyama on the case.

Buy him please.

Isn't Monaco looking for 60-80M for him?

Probably that's only £25m after we offload Sissoko and GKN
This player Mbappe is a game changer, much better than Pogba for example. I think up there with Bale....if not now very soon, basically after Poch has had him for 18months

Supposedly Monaco turned down a bid of over £100 mill from Real for him not so long ago, probably didn't happen but there'd be a bidding war for him if he were to leave and I fear if we were to throw our hat in the ring, we'd get blown out the water.

Probably, but sooner or later we have to start behaving like a big club in the Champions League, even if it's only sabre rattling it sends a new message, to everyone including our own players who have ambition, that we're a buying club on the rise, not a selling club of a few years ago.

Whilst I totally agree mate, the reality however for me, is we're a few trophies and a few years away from being able to anywhere near being in the mix for the real world class players.

The only way I see us getting a world class tier 1 player, is if that particular player fancies having a punt on us but even then, we'll likely be paying him a lot less than he could get elsewhere, so even then he may not join and also whatever we offer would probably be gazumped by one of the rich bitches. Also given our record transfer payout is £30 mill, to get a worldy you'd need to spend in excess of £50 mill, that's quite a hike for Levy to swallow. I'm with you though, it'd be nice to see Levy showing some real ambition in the transfer market, even if it is just folly.

I think for the time being though, we're gonna have to rely on promising youngsters and tier 2 players. It's worked out pretty well for us so far!

Right everyone...stop pissing on my firework. I know it's unlikely that Messi and Mbappe will be turning up anytime soon, I also know it's only our 3rd foray into the CL and that last season didn't go so well. But you have to start somewhere and everything I've seen over the past few years is positive, not like our hit and miss Spurs of old. So it's time to send out a message, coupled with playing at Wembley, a new world class stadium in 18/19, London as a vibrant city and Spurs with a group of young exciting talented players on the rise, and a brilliant young manager is an attractive package. If we pay the money they will come because they are footballers, not rocket scientists. They want cash, celebrity and the latest tattoo, once they're here Poch and Kane will brainwash them into the Tottenham cult and will never leave (unless we want them to).

Get to work Levy....he might be the biggest problem, still burnt after spending all the Gareth Bale money on the magnificent 7, of which it turned out to be the magnificent 1 - Eriksen.

That is a chicken or egg scenario.

If @Don Diaz wants him then I agree...

West Ham are to sign defender Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer once his Manchester City contract expires at the end of June.

The 32-year-old Argentine will join on a two-year deal on 1 July.
