Lots of chat about this one....

Look at how many we have had between Ledders and Bale.....

The odds are aginst him so let's not heap too much pressure on him just yet.

Enjoy ya footy lad... oh and being a millionaire and shagging supermodels.

Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Marcus Edwards will start training with the Spurs first-team soon.
Pochettino: "We have added another young player to train with us in Kyle Walker-Peters."
Pochettino: "We will see about maybe Marcus Edwards coming to start to train regularly with us too."
"If they show me in the training that that they are better than another player, then it is not a problem. You know that I do not have a problem to play them. I am sure that they will have possibilities to play this season."

Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham’s Marcus Edwards reminds him of Messi
• ‘His qualities … it’s only looks – his body and the way that he plays’
• Edwards in line for place on bench in EFL against Gillingham

Tottenham Hotspur’s 17-year-old attacking midfield prodigy Marcus Edwards reminds Mauricio Pochettino of a young Lionel Messi and the manager is considering whether to give him a first-team debut at home against Gillingham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Pochettino has named Edwards in his matchday squad and the expectation is he will begin among the substitutes. There has long been a buzz about the diminutive left-footer with the low centre of gravity, whose favourite position is No10 and whose greatest asset is his ability to glide past opponents, and Pochettino only added to it with his comments on Tuesday. “His qualities … it’s only looks – his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi,” the manager said.
Pochettino’s decision to mention the teenager in the same breath as one of the all-time greats went down predictably badly with the club’s press department, which is in the business of discouraging such hyperbole. The concern would be that it needlessly places extra pressure on Edwards’s shoulders.

It is important to note that Pochettino was not predicting that Edwards would become the next Messi, merely that he has the same playing style. Then again, Edwards’ nickname at the club is “Mini Messi”, and Pochettino would not have said what he said if he did not believe that the youngster has the strength of character to cope.

Pochettino detoured, briefly, on to his memories of Érik Lamela, when the Tottenham winger was a hugely talented youth prospect at River Plate, who “took the ball, didn’t give a pass and shot straight away”. But he got back onto the subject of Edwards and he made it plain that he saw a big future for him.

“He is a very good prospect and, potentially, he can be a top player but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player, but now it’s how he builds his future – that’s very important,” Pochettino said. “It’s our responsibility to tell him.”

Edwards signed a two-year professional contract at Tottenham over the summer, after a stand-off that had gripped since last December and he featured for Pochettino’s team in pre-season. He has been at the club since the age of eight and there is the hope that he can become the latest player to break through from the academy.

Was anyone at the game tonight? I'm wondering how Edwards did when he came on. I didn't get to see him in any highlight package unfortunately.

He did one of those FIFA games runs, where your best player has the ball and you try and run through 6 players to get an effort in on goal, cos you know he can as he is your best player. He did and forced a good save, and he probably will be if he is this precocious at 17.There is a GIF of it on the OMT.

Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Marcus Edwards says he is closing in on a return to fitness.

Edwards, 17, made his first team debut earlier this season in the EFL Cup win over Gillingham.

His late cameo was greeted with great praise, following on from impressive pre-season displays against the likes of Juventus, which even saw head coach Mauricio Pochettino compare his dribbling ability to Lionel Messi
Edwards was braced for an an opportunity in a big game at Anfield in the next round, only for his chance to be scuppered by injury.

He suffered a twisted ankle which ruled him out of the October fixture, and youth games at international level.

Yesterday he offered a brief update via Instagram, where he simply stated: "Back soon."
Prior to his injury he had been working his way up to the senior set up, travelling with the first team squad for the Premier League fixture against Middlesbrough.

With injuries stretching Tottenham's options at present, there could have been further opportunities for him over the past few weeks, especially with the side's lack of creativity.

When he returns he will likely have to prove his fitness in under-23 games and the under-19 UEFA Youth League before going straight back to where he was.

I think we'll see more of him this year. Hope so. Not sure who his agent/manager is...that is going to be important in terms of keeping him I think.

He's gotta genuinely make it before we need to worry about losing him, but it could be an issue in a few seasons time. But then again if we're winning trophies at the new gaff and he's a well paid integral part of that then why would he want to go. All hypothetical at the moment of course. Let's just hope he comes goid for now.

I think its all down to if he is good enough in the moment,if he is poch will play him,if he just thinks he is then thats where it could all go pear shaped at spurs for him.

The lad oozes class! I do wonder if he'd get bullied about by the bigger players in the prem at the moment but his close ball control is great and what sets him apart from other players his age is when he gets in the box he looks up and see's his options and calmly slides the attacker a pass.

One word with lots of A`s,Taarabaaaatt.
If marcus can keep his head whilst being hyped,he can follow Kane and Dele,or he could be like adel or bostock, caskey, and many others who didnt work as hard as Kane and listen to the coach.

He's certainly got the ability, keeping your head is becoming increasingly harder these day though. I'm sure he's in good hands and the likes of Kane and Alli should be inspiring to him.

Posted on 29 July 2017 - 15:45

We are delighted to announce that Marcus Edwards has signed a new contract with the Club until 2020.

The attacking midfielder, 18, made his senior competitive debut as a substitute in our 5-0 EFL Cup third round win over Gillingham in September last year and also scored five goals in 10 appearances for us in the Premier League 2.

Earlier this month, Marcus was part of the England squad that won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

Good stuff! I'm not expecting too much this coming season but would be nice to see him get some starts in the cups at least to see what he's made of.

Marcus is 18...in fact almost identical birthday to a certain Kylian Mbappe....he'll need to start looking good at a senior level by todays harsh judging standards pretty soon. Then he'll be worth £190m by 21 ha ha ha
