@skiathospurs would it be a good idea to merge the 'meltdown and transfer watch' threads...just so we can have all the inactivity in one place??!!
well,we have all been doused in kryptonite and lost our powers to move/merge,guess this one for news and the other to pat Mangina Levy on the back in 12hrs!!

Really, not expecting a thing and sissoko for 30m??took newcastle down and looked like he didnt give a monkeys,so not thrilled about that price if I am honest. We all seem to have forgotten we signed what we all wanted cover for kane and dier/dembele,and now cos we sold pritch, yedlin, bentaleb, mason and chadli who probably started 5 games between them last year we are in the poo.Maybe Poch is clearing the decks for onomah,CCV,winks, edwards cos he thinks they are good enough and ready??
Seems to be midfield we are worrying about,even if we play five and one up front we have ;
eriksen, lamela, dier, dembele,Dele, wanyama,Son,winks, carroll,Njie, onomah, edwards?.No real reason for a meltdown, one week ago no one wanted a regular starter signed or thought it was imperative.Yes it would be nice, but reality is we moved on some who werent going to and have given some up coming a chance.FFS most of our fanbase hated on chadli, mason and nabil as not good enough and now we are pants cos they have gone.
Poch will have sanctioned all those sales, wasnt he mad last year Dier as DM??the man has earnt our trust surely. If he wanted someone else he wouldnt be on holiday with his missus right now!!in formentera

So, apparently Isco IS NOT going to Malaga...... HOORAY!!

But has decided to stay at Madrid.......BOOOOOO!

To be honest, I'm kind of pleased he hasn't refused us to go to Malaga (whatever his connection with them) but I do find the news that he is staying in Madrid as quite odd. Firstly, I thought he'd been told that he just won't get games and, secondly, I thought Madrid HAD to move someone on? Does this mean someone else is leaving? I'm a bit confused.

I have to say that, having moved Nabil, Nacer and Ryan on in the last few days, I'll be kind of amazed if we just stick with what we have and don't bring anyone in.

I get what @skiathospurs was saying, in that fans have been moaning these 3 as not good enough but now moan they're gone (although I personally always liked all 3) but I think the point is not that they're no good at all, but we could have better. The choice between having 3 squad players who aren't quite at the level some would like over not having anyone at all, I think everyone would prefer having squad players to turn to.

I understand that Nabil may have started to cause a fuss if not getting games, but the other 2, and certainly Mason, would most likely get their heads down and get on with things.

My issue is that, it wasn't enough last season with those 3 in the squad, so how can it be enough this season where we now have Champions League?

I think we REALLY need another couple in. Yes, N'Koudou could be here, but he is a direct swap for N'Jie.

no actually Bony is a bit shit, even mertesecker turns quicker than him,
cows hit,banjo arse couldnt
He's a string target man who can bring players into the game at the top end of the field and stoke actually have some dangerous lads these days. He'll bag a goal or two as well, not against us but in general.

I usually lean a bit toward the "levy is a cheap twat" narrative, but 30 million for Sissoko is a piss take. I realize we need a player like him, but that's ridiculous money. Talented player who has done fuck all for Newcastle has a good Euro tournament and they ask that kind of money for him.

Seems like our great announcement at 10.59pm tonight will be that N'Koudou has signed...

Yeah, count yerself lucky!

Remember that greenhouse scene in Scum? Watching SSN right now is kind of making me feel like that kid who was quietly trying to water the plants . . .

Literally nothing on Tottenham for almost 2 hours, other than the occasional "surprised they've not done anything"!

And for the last 20min solid it has been the future of Mr. Jack bloody Wilshere!

Aarrrrrggggghhhhhh!

Ffs, now Sissoko is going to Everton

Wtf is wrong with us? We were great last season, but I actually fear we've weakened our squad this summer and it is certainly NOT a Champions League squad :(

We're supposed to be a Champions League club now and we're losing out to Everton and can't convince a guy who'll be welded to a bench for a season to come either

#fuming

I think Levy is playing a balancing act between relative success via players and the financials needed for the stadium? what we don't know of course is the wages etc. being demanded behind the scenes and the ceiling at Spurs being around £75,000 - £100,000 per week.

I would imagine a player like Isco would demand more than that and possibly Sissoko as well with the all the stupid money flying around. If we signed up to one of those it would have a huge knock on effect amongst the squad and could easily be unsettling in a currently united dressing room (Eriksen excepted?)

The players that have left have all gone for good money, we might see an appraisal over the next 4 months and if anything needs fixing it might happen in January. I'm guessing it's the money that is the main issue - players think thay can all get paid a fortune in the Premier league and especially at CL clubs, well they can't.

Funniest thing might be Jack Wilshere to Bournemouth by 11pm tonight.

Can anyone tell me why Paul Mitchell stayed on till the end of the Transfer Window when he resigned a few weeks back?

I'm so miffed right now. We've had some shocking Windows in the past, but usually in the winter. I'm pretty chuffed with the arrivals of Janssen and Wanyama, but we pretty much needed fresh faces in with our squad as it was (as witnessed by our disintegration last season).

We've since lost N'Jie, Bentaleb, Chadli and Mason - all decent players, let alone squad members - and we've brought in only N'Koudou, who looks promising but is hardly encouraging for the Champions League League.

On top of that we've lost Mitchell and we've lost Kieran McKenna - that's our main scout for bringing in players and 1 of our main coaches in developing youth.

What is happening? I feel as though we qualify for the UCL and instead of going to the next level, we struggle to hold ourselves together

If this window shuts as is, I expect some of our negotiating team to lose their jobs. It is shocking how poor we've been at landing our targets this summer.

@Basskadet it's of course a fair criticism (assuming we don't land a player or two in the next little while) but tbh I felt this way last season, and it turned out OK. I think we've addressed the most glaring needs in our squad, and if our relative lack of signings is evidence we're going to continue promoting young players I'd rather go wrong like that than by paying too much for some of the players we've been linked with.

I'd go along with that, if we hadn't failed in so many deals. We have gone from one target to another this summer - not just players we've registered interest in but actually registered bids for and been shunned!

Batshuayi - Fail
Zaha - Fail
Isco - Fail
Sissoko - Fail

Amongst others. That says to me that the plan was not what we've ended up with.

And promoting youth is great, but we could do that regardless of whether we sign players and it benefits our youngsters as much as anyone being able to train with a couple top players.

This isn't last season either, we're supposed to be in the Champions League now! And whilst last season turned out great, we all said we were short in numbers and could run out of steam, and look what happened.

Yet despite that, we've actually got less players now. We've let Fazio, N'Jie, Pritchard, Chadli, Mason and Bentaleb go, and brought in N'Koudou, Wanyama and Janssen.

I'm VERY worried.

It's great if you can bring in a star name as it gives everyone a lift, but when you go for big players and get consistently turned away, well, what does that say? Sissoko going to Everton is a proper kick in the knackers

Lol, well I had a suspicion we wouldn't just settle for our lot

I'm all in for Sissoko - as many of you will know, I've sung his praises for years, wanted him when he went to Newcastle and always touted him over Capoue.

Yes, he's been pretty average at Newcastle, but he needs motivation to be at his best and there's no question that, with the right team around him, Sissoko can be a beast.

We saw at the Euros what he can be like when he's switched on. Sure, £30m sounds an awful lot, but in the context of this window we are getting a player who was probably MOTM in the Euros final. And when you consider how that deal is structured, I think it's a bargain. It's basically just £6m up front, and let me tell you £24m invested properly over a year can make us plenty, so spread out over 5 years and (if the money men are clever, which you'd hope they would be with Levy/Lewis and co) by holding back that money and investing it wisely we can probably generate Sissoko's fee anyway. Basically, what I'm saying is because our instalments are so small and s spread out, he'll probably only 'cost' us about £6m to £10m.

Of course, you can't guarantee that with investments, but the chances of capitalising over 5 years are vastly improved, to the verge of being likely, than if it were over just 1 year.

Finally, a word on Sissoko. I honestly believe he has it in him to be Dembele plus goals. ;) and the best thing is he clearly wants to come to Spurs!

Again, I agree with most of what you're saying but I guess I'm not that worried given that A) I think our squad is better than last season; B) I think some of the players we've been linked with are a bit overrated anyway; and C) I really, without knowing that much about the ins and outs of finance in the club, didn't expect us to invest heavily in big transfers while we're building the stadium anyway.

As I type this, its reported that Everton have pulled out of the Sissoko deal (or maybe, given that the price is 30 million, Newcastle have pulled out of Everton, if you know what I mean)

Everyone on SSN is sympathizing over Everton - can I remind them that they were the ones trying to hijack OUR deal to begin with!! Nobody was sympathizing for us when Everton tried to steal him, we're they?
