Anyone else feel that Lukaku should have been suspended through retrospective action for kicking out TWICE at Bong?

The ref didn't see it & none of his assistants caught it either, but if they did, Young's deflected goal wouldn't have counted & ManU wouldn't have the 3 points.

I honestly still don't understand what the goal line judge's purpose is. I have never seen them make any call & this occurred right in front of him.
Unfortunatly the 3 man panel of Mr Glazier, ferguson and charlton didnt see it that way.

Calm yourselves....it's a bad week, there will be good ones, we're all fucked off , but it's largely because we all have so much higher expectations these days. We topped our Champions League group last week...remember? We beat Madrid 3-1.

It feels shitty for sure and I'd say it would take a huge fall from grace for City plus a great run for us to win the league and it's not really gonna happen but if we can finish close to them and go for the FA and dare i say it but CL, top 4 and FA cup along with a decent CL run would be a fine finish for me.

I'm calm, in fact pretty confident we'll turn things around over the holidays, but the Arse and dippers results were especially annoying. There's at least this to enjoy though:

I reckon if we'd had either Wanyama or Toby for the last game, maybe even the last two we'd probably have won both. Would just have allowed us to set up differently and Wanyama more than likely would have been there to close down Mahrez when he cut in on goal. What a bunch of pisstakers the Spam are - they get all fired up for one half against us and then lose to a pretty underwhelming Everton.

THST statement

The discussions leading up to the confirmation of this date have been unprecedented, and we hope that lessons have been learned. Sky has agreed to move the transmission slot away from the original choice of 2.15pm on New Years’ Eve, a sensible and welcome move.
For the game to have gone ahead on New Year’s Eve, capacity would need to have been capped at 43,000. We have 46,000 Season Ticket holders at Spurs across GA and Executive levels. With an away allocation and commitments to sponsors, partners, players and staff, up to 8,000 of our Season Ticket holders and all of our One Hotspur members would have been unable to attend the match. As soon as we became aware of this possibility, we made it clear that was not an acceptable solution, and we used our contacts to ensure that all parties were aware we would use whatever measures necessary to challenge a capacity cap.
While we recognise the new date will be inconvenient for some fans, we now have the outcome we wanted, a confirmed date for a maximum capacity event. We also recognise the efforts made by THFC to remind supporters the fixture was not confirmed while discussions were continuing.
However, if Sky had listened to the objections raised when it made its first choice, and had it not published that first choice before it was confirmed that the many elements needed to stage the game were in place, weeks of confusion for supporters could have been avoided. As could the fixture congestion our team now faces.
We’d like to thank our contacts at the Premier League, the Mayor of London’s office, the Shadow Sports Minister and, eventually, Sky for taking our views on board.
What has been shown clearly is the value of proper dialogue. When all stakeholders are involved and properly consulted, it is possible to find solutions that work. We hope this lesson is borne in mind and that we never have a situation again in which a scheduled fixture is not confirmed less than four weeks before it is due to be played.

Mark Clattenburg let Tottenham 'self-destruct' against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 2016

Mark Clattenburg booked nine Tottenham players in May 2016
Mark Clattenburg says he allowed Tottenham to "self-destruct" in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea in May 2016, so that he could not be blamed for Leicester securing the Premier League title.

Tottenham needed to beat the reigning champions at Stamford Bridge if they were to retain any hope of stopping Leicester lifting the trophy.

In a fractious contest, the hosts came from 2-0 down to claim a point with nine Tottenham players and three Chelsea players booked by Clattenburg.

However, Clattenburg says he could have taken much more draconian action during the match, but was happy to let Tottenham "self-destruct" instead.

ref-watch-chelsea-tottenham_3459921.jpg

A brawl broke out at full-time between players and staff from both sides
He told NBC's Men in Blazers podcast: "I allowed them to self-destruct so all the media, all the people in the world could go: 'Tottenham lost the title'.

"If I sent three players off from Tottenham, what are the headlines? 'Clattenburg cost Tottenham the title'. It was pure theatre that Tottenham self-destructed against Chelsea and Leicester won the title.

"Some referees would have played by the book, Tottenham would have been down to seven or eight players and they would've been looking for an excuse.

moussa-dembele-costa-diego-eye-poke-reaction_3459582.jpg

Dembele was banned for six games after his confrontation with Diego Costa
"But I didn't give them an excuse, because my gameplan was: 'Let them lose the title'."

Chelsea and Tottenham received record fines following the game, while Tottenham's Mousa Dembele was banned for six games for violent conduct.

Clattenburg added: "The physical contact that went on in the Premier League - that was the theatre, that's what people loved. They love a tackle, they don't want it punished."

Clattenburg left his job as a Premier League official earlier this year to become head of referees in Saudi Arabia.

Clattenburg getting it from many quarters
bbc

"Maverick" Mark Clattenburg's handling of Tottenham's game at Chelsea in May 2016 was "a gamble too far", says ex-top-flight official Dermot Gallagher.

Ex-referee Clattenburg said he could have sent off three players but let Spurs "self-destruct" so he could not be blamed for them losing the title.

"We are duty bound to treat every player in every game firmly, fairly and consistently," said Gallagher.

"He [Clattenburg] certainly didn't. It was all about him, wasn't it?"

Spurs needed to beat Chelsea to retain any hope of winning the league.

Clattenburg - who is now head of referees in Saudi Arabia - booked nine Spurs players in the bad-tempered 2-2 draw and the two clubs later received record fines from the Football Association.

Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele was also banned for six games for violent conduct against Chelsea's Diego Costa.

"The only thing you would say about what he did on the night is that he was consistent throughout," Gallagher told BBC Radio 5 live.

"If he was a young referee making his way through and you saw a performance like that then an assessor would tear him to bits.

"Let's not forget one thing, he was a fantastic referee. He was an individual, there's no doubt about that. He had a maverick side to him.

"He was a fantastic referee and maybe he thought because he was respected so much by the players he could take those gambles. On this occasion it was a gamble too far."

Speaking at his news conference before Wednesday's Champions League meeting with APOEL, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino did not want to discuss the matter, saying: "Two years ago. I am not going to say anything."

'What a load of rubbish'
Clattenburg took charge of the Euro 2016 final, as well as that year's Champions League and FA Cup finals, before quitting as a Premier League official the following season to move to Saudi Arabia.

"When you listen to him and that he went in with a gameplan because he didn't want the headline of 'Clattenburg costs Spurs the title', there's something wrong about that," added former Arsenal striker Ian Wright.

"I can't see how a referee can go into a game thinking about anything other than officiating it in isolation. If people have to be sent off they have to be sent off. It's baffling for me."

The draw against Chelsea meant Tottenham missed out on the title to Leicester.

"What a load of rubbish," added former Leicester striker Steve Claridge. "Say he doesn't send those Tottenham players off, they beat Chelsea and they win the league. How does his masterplan work then?"

Clattenburg is no longer part of the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL) select group, which provides all the referees for top flight matches, and it will not be commenting on his remarks.

And former ref chief keith hackett

They arent wrong, fact that he was always a ref that craved the limelight and continues to,just shows how completly wrong for such a role he was.Hope he enjoys his mid-life crisis in obscurity now he is in no way relevant.Yes mark you, fuck off.

My memory is ..... what's the word? Mmmmm, nope can't remember. Anyway if I recall correctly, which is really unlikely, wasn't Costa the one who started all the trouble and if he had got the red card he deserved then it might not have kicked off, and that nasty cunt Fibreglass, wasn't he another cunt who should have been off? Saying it was only our players who should have been carded is bollocks, he lost control of the game completely and allowed it to get too feisty. I blamed Clattenberg for that game, he was a celebrity referee and like Howard the Coward and that total cunt Foy I am glad he's gone and we now have high quality referees like Martin Atkinson.

Just use common sense, technology and fix the situation like they have in other sports. FIFA, UEFA and the FA are ultimately responsible for these ego maniacs in black every weekend. Why hasn't a player ever become a referee?

Don, I've always said, either to myself, teammates or the players I coach, "don't complain about the ref or his refereeing until you have actually reffed a game yourself".

It's not that easy.

It may not be easy, but when you are being paid £70,000 a year it flipping well shouldn't be easy. That is more than a NHS doctor gets, and they have to study for seven years and work their nuts off. It used to be that refs were amateurs, but now they are professionals and should be subject to full scrutiny and criticism when they are incompetent.

ARSENAL have attempted to sneak through their Europa League clash with FC Koln without anyone noticing them.

The Gunners hoped to avoid being recognised by any other clubs as they suffered the humiliating fate of playing in the Aldi-standard European competition for the first time in 17 years.

Striker Alexis Sanchez said: “If anyone found out, urgh. The shame. I’d never hear the end of it.

“I told friends I was spending all night at lap-dancing clubs, just to stop me being embarrassed, and whenever the TV cameras were on me I pretended I was just a man out walking his dog who’d stumbled into this game of football.”

A statement on Arsenal’s website insisted that the Emirates Stadium was closed for termite spraying on Thursday evening, but the presence of thousands of German fans gave the game away.

Arsenal fan Stephen Malley said: “I sneaked into the stadium and it was like catching my parents going at it.

“It was horrific to watch the team I love debasing themselves in that way. I know times have been tough but surely they didn’t have to resort to this grubby encounter on a wet Thursday evening.”

Eight Premier League games will be played in a new 19:45 slot on Saturdays under the terms of a new broadcast package from the 2019-20 season.

Broadcasters will bid for rights to show 200 live matches, more than 50% of the league's 380 games and an increase on the current deal's 168.

The new package will also allow successful bidders to broadcast rounds of midweek matches in their entirety.

It will replace the existing record £5.136bn TV deal struck in 2015.

The new kick-off times on Saturdays will likely mean matches are shown at the same time as prime-time favourites such as Strictly Come Dancing and X-Factor.

All matches in three midweek rounds per season, and one Bank Holiday round per season, will be broadcast live.

The three-season agreement for 2016-17 until 2018-19 represented a 70% increase on the previous £3bn deal.

Sky paid £4.176bn to show 126 matches, including the first Friday evening games and both Sunday packages, and BT paid £960m for 42 games.

No single buyer will be allowed to acquire more than 148 matches per season. The auction for rights is to be held in February, according to reports.

Rights to show free-to-air Premier League highlights will form part of a separate broadcast package.

Football Supporters' Federation chief executive Kevin Miles said more must be done to support away fans.

"We do not want to see more games on live TV as this makes life increasingly difficult for away fans in particular," he said.

"Unfortunately an Ofcom ruling dictated that more games would be broadcast but the clubs must do more with their huge TV revenues to make things easier for travelling supporters."

Analysis
Dan Roan, BBC sports editor

Supporters' representatives are concerned that this new Saturday evening slot will make it hard for away fans when it comes to travel arrangements, and that more games on TV in midweek could affect crowds at smaller clubs who are playing at the same time.

But it will be interesting to see what ratings these fixtures enjoy when up against prime-time blockbuster terrestrial shows such as Strictly and X-Factor.

The big unknown is whether digital giants such as Amazon and Facebook - both of whom are much bigger than current rights holders Sky and BT in terms of market value - decide to enter the bidding.

Despite recent moves into sports rights by these new players - and a meeting between the Premier League and Netflix - industry experts seem to sense this may be a deal too soon for them. But their mere presence may be enough to ramp prices up even further.

With overseas appetite for Premier League coverage showing no signs of slowing down, there have been fears that the value of domestic TV rights may have peaked. But with 19% more matches on offer after Ofcom ordered the Premier League to make more available and give consumers more choice, this could tempt Sky and BT to pay even more in total, but perhaps less per match.

Goons - hee hee. Yeah I know it's way too early to gloat but I like to snigger when the goons defence is what the commentator just said 'chaotic'.

Farking blimey, 7 minutes in and the scum should be 3 or 4 down not just 1, enjoyable game so far. Did they shoot their wad in their cup final against us? Yep.

Fucking lucky Woolwich, if Southampton had slightly better players that could take their chances or keep the ball they would and should have lost that.

We're so much better than them now, I know we lost 2-0 but half the team were injured. Wenger you're a miserable myopic twat as well. Stay as long as you like, wanker.

Very irritating. Still, they dropped 2 and we gained 3 so it could have been worse. The pikeys are on a roll and we will beat Brighton so the gap will be restored and we'll be nice and confident to duff over City!
