Seems like £75,000 is the new number at Spurs...or thereabouts. Gives Levy room to manoeuvre without going over the apparent ceiling of £100k a week.

I've just typed that and realised actually how obscene it is....for being a good footballer. I'm no political activist of any colour but wouldn't mind if some of these blokes gave real money, rather than their 'valuable time' to charities, nurses, emergency services and teachers for example. I'm sure they could muddle through on £10k a week less....?

To save anyone doing the maths £75k a week is £3.9m a year in Kyle's case for the next 5 years or £19.5m. And our players are not the top earners, we're 6th in the pay league apparently. What does Wayne Rooney spend his £250,000 a week on for christs sake. I know it's different industries and all that but seriously....

Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker believes the current squad is good enough to challenge on four fronts this season.

Excellent news!

I wonder who's turn it will be come Monday. Maybe Harry Kane, it's got to be over a week now since he signed a new contract.

Also, Poch must be reading this forum, he's actually wearing his other suit for this one.

Obviously player contracts and other club business are a lot more public than they used to be even a few years ago, but I can't remember a time when any club signed as many players to long-term deals as we've done in the last couple of months. Pretty remarkable.

Anyone who says players can't get better after their early twenties should just have a look at Walker's progression as a player. He still hasn't quite got that whipped cross like Trippier possesses but his decision making and positioning as well as his passing have just gone from strength to strength in the last few seasons.

Not to mention his speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed. I just love it when he takes off on one of his runs down the right and suddenly stops with the ball and changes direction, cutting inside. If you can have a favourite player in such a talented team, then Kyle is the man just for his Spurs passion. A Legend in the making.

Best RB in the league by a distance imo.

England’s 3-0 victory over old rival Scotland put them in a commanding position to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill all scored headed goals as England dominated proceedings at Wembley and ended a turbulent year on a high.

The year 2016 has had ups and downs for England, but one of its major positives has been Kyle Walker. The Spurs full-back has impressed both club and country, making the right-back slot his own.

Walker has come a long way in the last three seasons,he has been one of the most improved players in the Premier League and has become an asset for both Spurs and England. His club manager Mauricio Pochettino has been instrumental in his development as he continues to evolve into one of the finest full-backs in Europe.

In September, Walker followed his England team-mates Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Dele Alli in pledging his long-term future to Spurs, signing a new five-year deal. Walker stated: “It’s like my second home and I’m happy to commit my future to Tottenham.”

His magnificent form for Spurs has helped him maintain his place in the England squad, but now he is firmly established as England’s first choice right-back and his performance against Scotland on Friday fully justified his selection. Walker was outstanding, and although Lallana won man of the match, the man from Sheffield ran him very close and could easily have picked up the award.

Throughout the game, Walker was a constant outlet on the right hand side. He provided England’s width, hogging the right touch line which allowed Lallana to drift infield and influence proceedings. Sturridge opened the scoring midway through the first half, meeting Walker’s inch perfect cross before second half goals from Lallana and Cahill sealed a routine win for the three lions.

At 26 years of age, Walker is now approaching the best years of his career and he is playing week in week out. In his development years however, he found it hard to pin down a permanent position in the Spurs and England XI’s.

When Harry Redknapp signed Walker for Spurs in 2009, he immediately loaned him back to his hometown club Sheffield United where he spent another season before going on loan again to Aston Villa a year later. Since his return to Spurs in 2011, Walker has been a permanent fixture in the team but in the last two seasons he has answered his critics emphatically.

Walker has always been a useful player offensively, but the defensive side of his game has often been questioned. However, his defending has improved remarkably and last season he was part of the joint best defence in the Premier League playing 33 games for Spurs. So far this season Walker has retained his position, playing all 11 of Spurs’ league games.

Over the past couple of seasons, Walker’s all-round play has been wonderful. Part of Pochettino’s high-energy game, Walker is a player who bases his game around energy as he is relentlessly up and down the right flank. Many aspects of his play are reminiscent of Juventus and Brazil right-back Dani Alves, who is widely regarded as one of the best full-backs of the modern generation.

Walker has not had his place in the Spurs and England defence put on a plate for him, he has held off stiff competition. In 2015, Pochettino splashed out £4 million to sign former-Burnley defender Kieran Trippier who has kept Walker on his toes and perhaps brought out the best in him. Trippier is no slouch, and when selected he rarely disappoints, but Walker’s excellent form is severely restricting Trippier’s game time.

At international level, Walker missed out on Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad selection and was overlooked again two years later for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Walker played second fiddle to former-Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson, but since 2014 he has held off competition from current Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne and his consistently good performances have made him one of the main-stays in the England team in the past two years.

Euro 2016 may have been a disappointing campaign for England but Walker was arguably England’s star performer. In the aftermath of the tournament, England has played five games and Walker has played every minute of all of them.

With England continuously failing miserably in major tournaments, it is clear they have weaknesses. However, it is also clear they have strengths in the team and one major strength is the right-back position where Walker is showing the consistency and efficiency required to be one of the best in his position for many years to come.

Won't bother posting the links, but Twitter is full of speculation, apparently based on an Independent story cribbed from the Metro that he's on the outs. Stories are full of all the old cliches about a "falling out" and clubs "monitoring the situation" and "confident of securing his signature." All this because he was dropped for the Chavs and Arsenal games, and because Trippier is good. We'll see, either we sell him for a shitload of cash or this one belongs in Dorset's fake news thread.

Trippier is good, @J.spurs but I really don't understand the dropping of Kyle. Kyle has been solid this season and his runs down the right wing has opened up defences. Walker or Trippier to start...... Kyle every time. I would like to think it is match fitness/injury but speculation that he has upset Poch, then you take to the bench.

Has anyone noticed that Trippier starts when we play a back 4....Walker starts when we play a back 3. One formation needs flying wing backs the other doesn't.

We'd also like to keep both, so its game time for Trippier....that's my take on it anyway, let's see what happens on Friday.

If we have any "FREE" games, I'd love to see Wimmer at RB , and Walker as right wing, and they could interchange at will, could be exciting

He has looked tired and low on concentration for the last few games. I kinda understand why he has been dropped, i am not sure why we bring him on as sub in those matches.

Who knows? It could be a slight injury...all we know is Pochettino plays those who deserve to play.

We'll find out in time.....also don't forget that Ben Davies has taken Rose to a higher level, Poch might be doing the same with Trippier and Walker.

I'd guess it's almost certain to have some truth to it, probably being backgrounded by people close to Walker, whether his agency or someone else. I'd be amazed if there weren't other teams trying to entice him to sign for them. The positive thing may be that it gives us plenty of time to decide what action to take and to line up a replacement if necessary.

Where could he go that offer a him better football? You could subjectively argue the Chavs I suppose.

If he does it's simply cash, and that while I understand, is not something I think we can effect or should buckle to.

What I think is more important here is the collectiveness of the squad. If he goes does it start the selling club mentality. If he is appeased and give more dough does it mean everyone will have rumours about their future when they think they deserve more?

If he's being offered twice or three times the money to switch to City, it's pretty hard for the club to ride that out for the rest of his contract without a loss of performance. Our best hope could be that Bayern are actually interested in him, or that we can delay his departure for a season or two with another increase on his contract.

When it comes to managing player contracts and selling players the club has done a pretty good job in the last decade, which suggests the club will find the best way out of this situation that it can.

Of course. Over in the other place they are saying that 'something must be going on' and Kyle is on his way out. What the actual fuck? The only people who know why he taken a back seat recently are the people who need to know. Maybe he is not 100% fit, maybe his dog has died, maybe he asked for a bit of rest, maybe he called the Poch's mum a slag, maybe aliens have taken over his brain, maybe..... It really gets on my thrupnies when people speculate on something they know fuck all about, we have the newspapers to do that, we don't need anyone else doing it. One newspaper run some bullshit speculative story and all the others issued a rewording of the same trash and the sheeple start saying "there's no smoke without fire", cunts, I wish they would engage their tiny brains for a change.

Personally I find it very hard not to get emotionally dragged into these rumours. Purely coz of what's gone on before with us and selling our best players.

I hate the idea of anything rocking the apple cart, it's like not again ffs. I appreciate that it's just speculation but there does seem to be something in this. I only say this due to the journalist that broke the story is pretty well respected. Although the article itself is pretty wishy washy, it does all seem pretty resolvable.

Anyway whatever, if it does happen, we get a shit load of cash (from abroad hopefully) and the position is in safe hands with Tripps.

In Poch we trust!

That's the beauty of this the worst case scenario is that we have as equally good younger player waiting to come in...

Fuck it's good being a Yid these days.

It's almost funny.

Yes, and the worst case scenario will only happen if the club decide to allow it. And, how many clubs have two Kyle Walkers?

On My High Trojan Horse
This is simply part of the process.
It affirms that we have ascended & reached the next level.

This is when it starts to get more challenging in terms of the retention of a strong team.
We don't have the cash to splash therefore it will take finesse on the part of Poch & Levy.
The players that remain will be the ones that reflect the ambitions of the club & wish to be part of something very special that is about to materialize quite soon.
