Thoroughly deserved, we just worked harder, defence was miles better than theirs, probably beat Spurs defence I've ever seen right now. Some great performances throughout and I was worried before the game that we needed Janssen up front and Son in lamela's position....mr Lamela was probably the only one who under performed....but I'm not having a go at anyone....that performance will give so much confidence and belief for the players and I'm really pleased for Poch as well, richly deserved for him as well.

YES, happy days, love this club

Oooohhh that was nice! Imagine if the cunt with the whistle had sent off Otamendi and Sterling like he should have and he had ordered the penalty retaken because that clown goalkeeper was off his lines? 10-0 easy! I expect Lamela is taking it up the bottom in the other place and Janssen for not scoring in the four minutes he was on the pitch.

The numpties will be very quiet today, maybe one or two of them will even hold their hands up and say that Son isn't a cunt, nor is Erikssen, the Poch does know what he is doing, Sissoko was a top bargain and we ain't finishing 6th and we only finished 3rd last year because all the other teams were shite.

The only unbeaten side in the Premiership, sounds nice eh?

Superb Spurs too good for Man City
CtxZASHWIAAXlu4.jpg

Tottenham deservedly ended Pep Guardiola's perfect Premier League start and underlined their own title credentials with a thrilling victory over Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

Guardiola had won his previous six games and 10 of his previous 11 matches in charge, but City were outplayed by a vibrant Spurs who moved second in the table and are now the league's only unbeaten team.

Spurs dominated from the start and were in front early on when Aleksandar Kolarov sliced Danny Rose's cross into his own net after nine minutes.

Dele Alli confirmed their superiority eight minutes before half-time with a cool finish from Son Heung-min's pass.

Spurs could even afford the luxury of seeing Erik Lamela's second-half penalty saved by City keeper Claudio Bravo. and even though Sergio Aguero twice brought Hugo Lloris into action, once when he turned a shot on to the post, Mauricio Pochettino's side fully deserved a convincing win.

Are Spurs title contenders?
If Liverpool are being touted as potential title winners after their fourth successive Premier League win at Swansea City on Saturday, then it is positively insulting to Tottenham not to elevate them to the same bracket after this pulsating performance.

Spurs took charge from the first whistle against a City side many felt were shaping up to run away with the title - barely allowing Guardiola's side a second to breathe and refusing to allow them any time to impose their passing game.

And it was all done without main marksman Harry Kane, who is sidelined with an ankle injury.

In many respects this was the first time Spurs have fully hit their stride this season, and what a time to do it.

On days like this the team that pushed Leicester long and hard for last season's Premier League title look the complete package from back to front.

They have a reliable keeper in Hugo Lloris, strength in defence in the shape of Jan Vertongen and Toby Alderweireld allied to the midfield power of Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko plus the creation of Christian Eriksen, Alli and Son.

This was a big statement.

Man City beaten at their own game
Guardiola prides himself on the high pressing style of his side and work on the ball once they gain possession - they were beaten in all aspects of this by Spurs.

One moment early in the second half summed up the way Spurs went about their business.

Keeper Bravo was hurried into a clearance and when Nicolas Otamendi received the ball seconds later, he was surrounded and sliced the ball into touch to the obvious delight of Pochettino.

It is City's first defeat under Guardiola, so hardly time for a mass inquest - but Spurs may have shown there is a way to unsettle his multi-talented side.

Spurs cope better with injuries to key players
Spurs and Manchester City were both missing big players in Kane and Kevin de Bruyne respectively - and there was no doubt who coped better.

Pochettino understandably maintained faith in the revitalised South Korean Son. His energy in attack, while also acting as their first line of defence, typified Spurs and suited their style more than the physical presence of £17m summer signing Vincent Janssen.

City showed the odd flash from Aguero but Raheem Sterling could not exert any influence, with David Silva also marginalised.

As stated before, City remain a squad of high quality but how they missed the moments of magic that Belgium midfielder De Bruyne can provide for them.

Turned it on finally. That's the Spurs we were thrilled by last season and actually, it's better I think. Everyone pulled their finger out for 90 minutes, only 1 player disappointed me so I won't dwell on that and still without Dembele, Kane and for the most part Dier. Wanyama shut me up today. I'd had my doubts but he was immense. COME ON.

Fantastic performance, certainly a game where you need to watch it because the stats don't tell the story of which team had the better play.

Great performance and result. Tough to believe that we've only conceded 3 goals in 7 games so far. Best defensive in the league by quite a bit up to now. Very very early days, but if managed to maintain that until the end of the season it would he incredible. I never thought in my lifetime I'd hear the words Spurs and best defensive together once, 2 seasons consecutively would be mind blowing. Still unbeaten as well.
This game was made even more impressive by the fact City had been flying up until now. The reviews are talking about we had Kane out, but not many mention we also had Dembele out who is key for us and also Dier, although I feel Wanyama is proving to be a sound alternative for him
COYS, we should be full of confidence now.

The way Tottenham beat Premier League leaders Manchester City on Sunday was a huge statement of intent by boss Mauricio Pochettino and his players.

It was not just the result that was impressive, it was how they got their 2-0 win. Right from the start, the intensity of their play was frightening, and they carried out Pochettino's game plan to perfection.

I cannot say I was surprised to see how good Spurs were, though.

As I said in my BBC column before the game, I already had them as being title contenders - this was a performance that just gave me more proof that they have got what it takes.
_91494477_plsprints2016-17.png

One of the reasons I predicted Tottenham to beat City was because of the timing of the fixture.

Spurs are notoriously slow starters to the season under Pochettino, because he works them so hard early in the campaign to get their fitness levels up.

They always seem to click a couple of months in, however, when that work starts to pay off and that was the case against City.
_91494479_deleallisprints.png

Dele Alli, who scored Spurs' second goal, made the most sprints of any player on the pitch against Manchester City. He played 86 minutes on Sunday, 82 minutes against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday and 90 minutes against Middlesbrough last weekend

Seven outfield players that started against City were starting their third game in eight days, including a long midweek trip to Moscow, but they looked fresh because they have entered the phase of the season where they are up to speed.

Tottenham covered more distance on Sunday than they had in any other Premier League game this campaign, and made more sprints than any other top-flight team in 2016-17.
You could tell from the tempo Spurs set from the off that they were going to make it a tough afternoon for City, and another part of the reason they could do that was down to the crowd.

The atmosphere at White Hart Lane was incredible, and it had exactly the effect I would expect.

I have played there when the ground has been buzzing like that, and you feel unstoppable. The fans are so close to the pitch and they help you so much - from some of the post-match tweets I've seen from Spurs players, it made a big difference against City too.
Dele Alli said afterwards that Tottenham's plan was to get in City's faces to stop them playing, and they definitely did that. It was the right plan too.

I don't know whether the Spurs players saw Celtic do the same to City in the Champions League on Wednesday, but I watched that game and thought it was the way for Tottenham to go.

Tottenham pressed City not only with intensity, but from the right angles. They forced them into corners to make mistakes, and always had players backing each other up to make sure they won the ball back.

As fit, strong and fast as Spurs are, they still got to a stage in the game where they could not keep it up and City started to find a way through.

All that pressing costs you but despite the fact they were tiring, Spurs held out and became the first team to stop City scoring under Guardiola, as well as being the first team to beat them.
Wanyama a warrior in midfield
_91494452_wanyamatouchesvmancity.jpg
22 of Wanyama's 46 touches came in the City half. He made six successful tackles, more than any other Spurs player

We already know the Tottenham back four is hard to break down, because of their record over the last couple of seasons.

But another sign of how their team is developing was how well summer signing Victor Wanyama played against City.

In his first couple of games for Spurs, I was not convinced by him. I thought he was decent back-up for the existing central midfielders, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele, nothing more.
gainst City, he was immense, and not just for his tackling or the amount of ground he covered.

He was also composed on the ball in the areas where Spurs needed it, and disciplined too. It was the performance Tottenham fans have been waiting for.

Wanyama got a yellow card after half an hour and with Dier on the bench, I would have been tempted to take him off in the second half.

But Pochettino obviously had a conversation with Wanyama, who was sent off three times for Southampton last season, and trusted him enough to keep him on. In itself, that tells you how much he believes in him as a player.
Dembele has only played 74 minutes of Premier League football this season, and he would usually be a huge miss to any team. It is the same for Harry Kane, who is currently sidelined too.

But Spurs showed they have got the squad to cope without them against City. They are only a point behind them at the top of the table now, and after a performance like that, they will believe they belong there.
