Who? What? Why? Not Benfica, Porto or Sporting Lisbon but Paços de Ferreira. I bet the numpties who hated the' tinpot' Europa league will be spitting feathers about this competition! A good chance to give some of the second string and developing players some competitive football.

I hear that Harry will be in the squad.

Hilarious, let him run around in the Farmer’s Cup and then sell him.

I don't have a problem with the second string or youth players being the primary focus of this competition. In some respects, I'd even "demand" it because it'll be an ideal way to get them experience and also to get used to what Nuno wants to do as far as formation and tactics go.

Even though I think it would be handy to get some of the second string some minutes and match fitness, I would have no qualms about exiting this competition at this stage either ..

Such a weak & frustrating player
I genuinely can’t stand him as a footballer. He’s been utter gash for over 2 years. How the fuck he’s still with us, is beyond me. Probably coz no one else wants him. Barely a premier league standard footballer.

Winks has not been very good this game

Sessegnon did well considering he's coming back from a pre-season injury. Gil showed some promise but very early, early days for him.

Lo Celso not too good but similar situation for him as far as pre-season and fitness goes.

I didn't see all of the game so I should be careful of what I say but some of the more experienced players like Lo Celso & Davies were a little frustrating as well. Don't know why Davies was hoofing the ball high up the field for Scarlett when he was continually outdueled in the air by their CB's. He's much better with the ball delivered to his feet or through the channels to run on to.

As for Winks, shame what's happened to him b/c I no longer know what he offers. Speaking of offers, there have been reported ones for him but he doesn't want to go. Wants to prove himself here but every time he gets the opportunity he drives his value down.

Not televised in this part of the world. The only surprise for me is that there is a second leg to this. Genuinely thought I’d heard it was a one-and-done knockout format.

Has anyone ever been impressed by Lo Celso? Puts in the odd decent cameo but from what I’ve seen of him, he’s another pretty average part of what’s an ever increasing squad of stale players.

The recruitment is as bad as the lack of expenditure. Can’t think of more than 1 or 2 players that we’ve bought over the last 3-4 years that’s actually improved our first team.

GLC was the Lemella replacement.... who made Lamella look like a world beater...!

I don't disagree, we've got a plethora of mediocre players sucking wages out of the club and delivering "meh" for it.

There must be hungry young players in our ranks who want to pull on a shirt and give their all for an opportunity to become a star...? Players that will give and commit more than these pollyfiller players.

Dier
Sanchez
Aurier
Ndombele
Winks
Lo Celso
Doherty
Ali
Sisoko

Every last one of them can be got rid of now... I'd rather start with 9 men every fucking week.

I’d add Davies and Bergwijn to that list as well mate. The latter pops up with the odd goal and has some wheels on him but he’s a very average footballer in terms of possession and passing.

I don't doubt the commitment of some of these players (Winks, for example) and I also respect that they want to fight for their place. Some might still have it in them: Dier, I thought, was excellent against Man City, Dele's still at an age where he can return to form, and I could see a place for Bergwijn moving forward. But there is definitely a lot of dead wood in the team that will be hard to move on.

I'm afraid Winksy is done, he can't seem to raise his game to the required level any more. Such a shame, he showed so much promise before his injuries. I really hope he moves on, for his sake. It's just going to make him more and more frustrated if he stays and gets 2 minutes at the end of every second PL game.
