So after the Saha&Neilsen transfer extravaganzer of years past,if Levy gives Poch here & now £30m could he make the difference with a signing or two?To definately secure top 4 and maybe, maybe close on the title? Not a signing that makes financial sense in terms of a return on resale and we are limited with wage structure as to who we could pay not neccessarily sign.A striker most likely, there must be one who could make the difference out there, shane long, defoe, jay rodriges, berahino, llorente, charlie austin :)D:D),some south american whizz kid, decent german league forward, some bizarre african Nnamed player, someone tearing up the champioship/league 1?.
We probably have enough depth in defence/midfield unless we enter walking dead territory bad luck. But god forbid Harry gets another injury,do we stick with Son and Janssen as cover or take a punt??Or if you could get £20m for Lamela would you find better for £50m?(sorry @Finchbee its just hyperthetical ;)).

Really I havent got a scooby who fits? Our playing style is quite specific about the kind of player Poch would sign,is it a laugh if i say shane long?works hard, hustles, scores a few?best my tiny mind can come up with at short notice.I feel a bit stupid even suggesting this

I would bang on about it for months but with this team right now, £10m on defoe would be worth it

Problem is what do you get in a striker for 30 million these days? I dunno how much it would cost but I expect it'd be more than 30 mil for Lukaku! I'd go for him if we really wanna make a statement and go for the league, but I expect it will be more like 50 mil than 30....

Noticed Vincent wasn't on the bench today so if, and its a big if, Poch is starting to get concerns I wouldn't be annoyed if we got someone like Long.

I wouldn't have a clue as I only watch Spurs. No way I would sell Lamela for £20m though.

I would also hold back until we assess Vertonghan's injury, if he's out for a while and bearing in mind Poch is favouring 3 CBs plus we need to rotate for Europa, we might need to strengthen either our CBs or DMs. I would probably bung Dr Who £6m to send us to last week and buy Schneiderlinan matey with the remaining £24m.

If the reports are true that Barkley will go for £30m then that would be interesting. On one hand a player that we really don't need but on another a player who totally under performed this season who I think the Poch would make into a fabulous player.

I don't know Super Poch's mind....but I can't see where we are weak at the moment...assuming Janssen scores soon.

We spent large parts of the first half of this season with notable injuries to key players like Kane and Alderweireld, Dele and Eriksen off form and yet still we went unbeaten and picked up goals and points. Now we have everyone back except Lamela we are really firing.

So I don't really know who we would buy. This team is a beautiful blend of first class players, without an Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo or Messi. Just a lot of first class players that want to play for each other. That's a difficult culture to achieve, take a look at City, United and recently Arsenal and Chelsea. We don't, at least at the moment appear to have a team of mercenaries or individuals. They genuinely seem to get on really well, on and off the pitch, which is important, volatile and fragile.

So it's important we win something now...'something big' in Poch's words, by which I think he means the league title. I think we have it in us, but someone has to stop Chelsea, we've done our bit, we'll need help from others now. If we don't so be it, but we're better by 9 points and 9 goals than last year so we're doing something right.

Don't tell some of those fucking muppets on the old forum though, they'll never believe you.

Keep it going boys, see where it takes us. Great times again

The way I see it everyone fit and we're ok. So what we need is to add resiliance where we don't have depth.

Kane is the obvious shout and I'd go for Rashford.

There has been a whisper surrounding Wilfred Zaha from Crystal Palace for a while now and as they haven't lived up to their potential, maybe that deal can get done for well under the £30M budget. Although, when you look at that half of the team, I'm not sure whether there is so much need to strengthen there:

Onomah, Sissoko, Eriksen, N'Koudou, Son, Alli, Edwards and MIA Lamela. Is there room for another in there? Maybe not.

Jan Vertonghen's injury has, as awful as this sounds, come at the right time of the season in that; Spurs could go out and strengthen at the back. Playing three at the back is working for the squad but that adds pressure on the depth from the bench:

Wimmer, Carter-Vickers, Dier, Alderweireld and I suppose we should add Ben Davies but even then, we only have five, two of which are probably better suited to other positions and one a 19 year old (although if you saw him in the street you would struggle to realise his age lol).

Jose Fonte has handed a transfer request in and could well be a decent back-up to add to the ranks although, selling the idea of buying a 'non-refundable' 31 year old centre back to Levy would take some doing lol.

The emergence of Harry Winks is testament to the nurturing that is oozing from Mauricio Pochettino, a confidence never more shown than bringing him on against the title leaders during the last Premier League game. And credit to the player, who has been pretty perfect each time he has graced the turf.

With him however, we have Dembele and Wanyama after which, we are struggling to find any more bodies. Injury prone (is that fair?) Mousa Dembele really gets stuck in and is only one tackle away from leaving us with Winks and Wanyama in there. Is that OK? I don't think it is.

Of course, the squad is more than capable of shuffling. For example; Eric Dier could fill in for Dembele but, that would leave the back three short. I was more than interested in buying Morgan Schneiderlin but, we have missed that opening after the £24M transfer to Everton.

Him apart, Axel Witsel is another that was bought this month that would have been a good addition to the squad which leaves slim pickings. A cheeky low bid for James McCarthy?

Which leaves the ever frustrating position of Centre Forward. Our record of buying them is probably one of the most difficult tasks we have had at the club. Mister Hindsight should step in here...

"Tottenham thought they had a deal for Frenchman Moussa Dembele, then 19, last January for about £4m, plus add-ons. Dembele’s contract expired last summer and he had no plans to sign another, hence the lower price. His wages were manageable and he has rich potential – pace, strength, finishing power and unpredictability. Yet when Fulham decided they wanted Dembele loaned back for the remainder of 2015-16, Tottenham lost enthusiasm. It was also suggested that Fulham asked for 20 per cent of any future sale. Tottenham took a long, hard look and decided to pass.

In the meantime, Dembele signed for Celtic last summer and has scored 19 goals this season. Yes, the Scottish Premiership is inferior to the Premier League. But Dembele’s haul includes a hat-trick in an Old Firm derby against Rangers and two in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League. He will spend at least this season in Glasgow but if Celtic decide to sell in the summer, they would ask for at least £30million.
"

MEH!

Saido Berahino is, in my opinion, another version of Son Heung-Min. What I mean by that is neither are 'real' out and out centre forwards. I would put him in the same bracket as the 'front six' behind Harry Kane, not as a back-up.

I guess we might be able, at a push, to include fellow Belgian Christian Benteke here? Would Pochettino be able to recapture his form from his days at Villa? Because let's not beat around the bush here; at that moment in his career, he was one of the best in the country. Would it be a case of 'Double Janssen' though..?

We are starting to get a little Sci-Fi now but... Mario Balotelli is only contracted until the summer of this year at Nice. He has scored 10 goals in 14 games and, as a substitute for Harry Kane, would he fit? Personally I think he's a complete tank top and I'd hate it if he came to Tottenham so...

That is the case in point though and the struggle we face in the position we are in; whoever comes will, probably, never be able to replace Kane and will always play second fiddle which, kind of narrows the market somewhat. All the more reason to have gotten Moussa Frigging Dembele last winter grrrr!

I'm done, centre forward is the most precarious position in the squad and yet, without doubt, will be the hardest to fill.

I find it hard to disagree with anything posted on here, whether it be defoe, long, lukaku, stick with what we have, rashford or as @boo says.
I dont have a problem with Son or Janssen as back up,I still trust that they could do the job and I guess Poch does or else he would be looking? Its whether we pay for "kane" insurance, kane stays fit and on form,we dont need anything I am sure of that.So what criteria would we be looking at?
1. to play 2nd fiddle to kane yet want to come to the club
2.pref have PL experience to be able to hit the ground running
3.be able to play alongside kane at times,so not a replica exactly
4.suit the style of play, press, hold up play, score!! & not rock the boat
5.not break the wage structure
and much more
however points 1,2&5 pretty much leave the cupboard bare,Levy likes a resale investment so lukaku, rashford fit the bill even if it meant £50m spent but are just pipe dreams.dembele V2.0 surely if we were going to sign him we would have stumped up in the summer and not double the price 6months later?Benteke......no thank you we have been down this road before....
So as @Ted the Yid I dont watch too much other PL football let alone south american,or european leagues unless the scouts have a clue I cant see anything happening.

What we need is the coaches and psychologists to work on Janssen the next fortnight and unleash him in the FA cup,the fans give him a lift as we have always done at matches and give him the chance to come good, which is more likely than a replacement in january. It is a worry that he didnt make the bench yesterday,I hope it is because Poch is managing him to improve his head, fitness.Could be a lot resting on vincent,no doubt the coaches here improve players, lets hope they continue and we continue to confound the sky love in for anyone else but spurs.

The thing with spending on a striker is they ain't gonna take Kane's place so gonna have to be happy to sit and wait for their chance to play, but it would make us stronger for the FA and Europa league assuming they aren't cup tied of course.

Just wondering if you could partner Jansen with Edwards to have an old school pairing up top, it would mean shuffling the system and probably losing either Dele or Eriksen from the team but it might work.

I have just got out of bed though lol!

Would still be Bony for me I think. Big, strong knows the league, would come in a heart beat and would sit behind Kane no worries at all. He has it in him to be quality again. Would mean the end of Janssen though whom I like but he is struggling so far.

Edit: Flip didn't even realise he is only on loan to stoke from City.

Too late for him I think, he was OK at Swansea (did he look good because everyone else was a bit pony?) he is well past his score by date I reckon - and if the media reports are true then he is being a total cunt at Stoke? 120 grand a week for a has been with an attitude? Nah, I don't want him either - ooooh look at me being all fussy and picky!

He must be because the Mirror aren't allowed to make stuff up are they? Yeah, OK, he's probably not a cunt at all and I wouldn't judge him based on some comic's article. I just don't think he has developed like we thought he would a few years back. Maybe if he was happy to sit on the bench then he might be worth a punt, dunno. I think we can afford to be very choosy and we need to be, if some large headed star comes in on high wages and unsettles the team then that would be a bad thing. I think we have enough depth as it is. I haven't given up on Janssen, Sonny can score loads and we have youngsters like Edwards and Harrison who can be brought in if the worst happens. If we get some bother in defence we can recall Fazio!

Im hoping Janssen just needs time but he looked so deflated against Villa I just fear he has lost his mental fight. If anyone can draw it out though it's the Poch.

Janssen is 22,he is in his first season at the highly competitive, sharp end of the Premier League, it will take time to adapt and learn.

It took Son a year, Lamela 2, and equally poor Soldado never made it. If Janssen hasn't done it or shown potential by this time next year then fair enough, he's up for review, but as of now he stands the chance of being a brilliant signing.

Lots of chat about it,nothing confirmed as yet, also talk of naming rights but the new deal with the chavs has made that seem unlikely.
Just google tottenham nike rumours,

Yeah I thought it was about 30 mil but like you say nothing announced by the club so could be anyone as of yet. I'm intrigued to see who it's gonna that supplies the kit and if it's tied in with the stadium naming rights. Could be super duper bumper deal if it's all tied in to one thing. I know it seems that under armour won't be continuing with us but with them being huge in the US and us having the NFL deal I really wouldn't be surprised if they try to be kit suppliers again with a completely different and unconnected company taking on the shirt and stadium sponsorship.

nike are tied in to NFL pretty much,I await confirmation from some our southern canadian brothers on that!I guess stadium and kit deals are hard to do together, kit deals having a short span and stadium deals much longer, nike stadium with us playing in umbro would be a marketing fubar.

A few things - I like Rashford's inclusion, must piss off several others though, Man Utd sub makes the big picture.

With regard to the sponsorship deal, I would imagine Levy might be thinking of a new number, or at least factoring in some caveats/bonusses based on where we finish or what we achieve this season. If we become a regular CL club that exposure is worth several million more I would suggest......Levy will want to start being on a parallel very soon with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, City and Chelsea. All of this new Spurs success (assuming it happens) will ultimately have a big impact on global merchandise, popularity, tours and ticket sales in the new stadium. Assuming continued success over the next 5 years, we will all be supporting one of the worlds big big clubs....

(Which also has it's demons I admit...... it will be corporate football and we'll have our own plastics for a start, lol)
