I hope we start singing this down the Brikkies........
He should never have been dropped in favour of JV, that was a really bad decision by Poch, and whether the rumour, that it's in Jans contract that if fit he has to play, that's Wrong.
Players should be picked on form, and KW didn't put a foot( or head) wrong !

It was a little harsh on Kevin, and maybe as you say a poor decision by Poch, but to be fair Jan and Toby were without a doubt the best CB pairing in the league last season (though I suppose you could come back by saying Kevin and Toby were better, and I'm not sure I'd argue). He'll surely start the season as Jan's injury will have him at less than 100%, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him grab the opportunity. On a somewhat related note I'm hoping to see CCV playing in the preseason friendlies as well.

I have seen rumours a few of the development squad will travel,CCV included.
On a side note if wimmer comes in holds his place, not sure how Jan deals with that menatlly especially regards staying with us??

I got a feeling this could be Jan's last season with us. If he struggles to take his place back from Wimmer it could be a good time to sell as we'd have Wimmer and Toby in the team and would still be able to get decent money for Jan but he'll be 30 at the end of the season so his value will start to go down whilst I expect he'll also be one of our higher earners. If he ain't getting consistent game time then I'd be happy to move him on next summer as long as we have a good quality replacement as we will need at 3 good CB's if we're to be a regular CL club.

I got a moment on the tottenham way podcast when I asked where is wimmer??Ok they butchered my username, but dan kilpatrick the espn reporter that covers spurs, alluded to something is wrong here. There is no known injury as to why he isnt in the match day squad, and most likely Poch doesnt fancy him?Its all speculation, but it is curious, and still no clearer as to what is happening with him, maybe the gillingham team will answer some questions??

@skiathospurs...I thought Wimmer acquitted himself just fine last season filling in for Jan -- great effort, smart play, reliable...all traits which Poch seems to value. There was some question about an injury over the summer pre-season, but I've never seen anything concrete about it or the outcome.

Yeah its curious, never mentioned in the missing list of injured players.I will keep an eye out on training photos see if he is actually attending? If rumours were to be believed offers were made for him in the summer and we didnt take them.Hopefully its us being careful over an injury?thought i saw something about a fractured head part in the preseason?but maybe I dreamt it??

What has happened to Tottenham's Kevin Wimmer?
The Tottenham Hotspur player continues to be overlooked for match-day squads despite appearing to be fit.
Last season, Jan Vertonghen’s injury allowed Tottenham Hotspur teammate Kevin Wimmer a chance to impress that he seized with both hands.

In fact, such was the Austrian international’s impact that some Spurs fans felt he should partner Toby Alderweireld even when the latter’s compatriot was ready to return.
That was not how things played out, with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino opting to stick with the Belgium duo whenever possible, but big things were still expected of Wimmer in his second year at White Hart Lane.

That makes the current situation so much harder to fathom, with the 23-year-old yet to appear in a match-day squad despite appearing to be back to full fitness in training.

Wimmer was part of Austria’s squad for Euro 2016 and despite not being a starter there he missed the first two games of Tottenham’s current campaign with a hamstring injury.Since then he has been photographed regularly taking part in full training and there is no indication that he is injured on the Premier League’s official website. And yet still there is no sign of Wimmer.
Tottenham’s EFL Cup match against Gillingham later this month will go a long way to showing if there is a problem because the Austrian will surely start that match if fit and well.

If he does not, the questions are only going to increase surrounding the mystery of a player who is already something of a fan favourite among Tottenham fans and yet who has disappeared…at least for now.

LONDON -- United States youth international Cameron Carter-Vickers "deserves to play in the starting XI" for Tottenham, says manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The 18-year-old centre-back has yet to make his professional debut for Spurs in a competitive fixture, but started against Juventus and Atletico Madrid during their tour of Australia in July, as well as a later friendly against Inter Milan.

Pochettino then named Carter-Vickers to the Spurs bench for all four Premier League fixtures this season as well as Wednesday's Champions League defeat to Monaco, and the manger said the teenager deserves to be in the squad ahead of the more experienced Kevin Wimmer.
I believe that Cameron is doing well," Pochettino told a news conference. "If you watch the games against Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan again, I think he deserves to play in the starting XI.

"He can give to the team better quality than another player. It's for that [he's named on the bench]. All my decisions are because I think a player can give more things than another player. It's for that that I picked him on the bench.

"Kevin is the same. He arrived late to preseason and was injured, remember. He didn't play in Australia. And Cameron did very well. You can watch the games. And if he deserves to be on the bench, then why not? Because he is young? It's about performance."
Wimmer impressed in 21 appearances last season, including nine Premier League starts, and he agreed a new five-year deal in July.

But he is yet to be named in a matchday squad for Spurs this season, and last month a source close to Pochettino told ESPN FC that the club would listen to offers for the 23-year-old Austria international, who joined Tottenham from Cologne in May 2015.

The defender was Spurs' only Euro 2016 representative to be included in the club's preseason trip to Australia but did not play because of a tight hamstring.

Thanks for the info @skiathospurs ... Don't think the door has completely shut on KW if he's not training with the kids, but it sounds like Poch has last-chanced him to up his effort and fight for a spot or it's "auf wiedersehen."

Its a meritocracy,as it exactly should be,If CCV is training better then completly explains where wimmer is.Also could be some kidology from Poch, maybe kevin got a bit billy big balls and I ve made it,and Poch is sorting him out mentally?

It doesn't sound to me like Wimmer is sidelined just working back from injury and having to wait for his oportunity.

He was fantastic and tbh I wouldn't be that bothered if Verts was dropped for him as his performances justified that level of confidence.

Toby is a fcuking monster and he is almost the first name on the team sheet, but Verts can be a bit hit and miss and considering his age he may be being eyed as one for Levy to ship on while he has some real value.

Like I said I'm not bothered as CCV and Wi er are both corkers t have in the wings.

I'd be gutted if Wimmer left, I fell like he has sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more to offer.

He signed a new 5 year deal in July and you would only name 1 CB sub on the bench, so unless we hear something definite to the contrary I'd say there's nothing to worry about, if he doesn't get game time in the League cup then there might be an issue, but not at present in my view.

Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer has admitted he is "down on expectations" this season but is willing to wait for his chance to play regularly.

Wimmer joined Spurs from Cologne last summer and made a positive impression during his debut season in English football.

The 23-year-old made a total of 10 Premier League appearances, filling in admirably during the second half of the season while Jan Vertonghen was out injured. But Wimmer has struggled to dislodge Vertonghen or Toby Alderweireld from the side this season and has been restricted to a solitary appearance in September's EFL Cup victory over Gillingham.
The central defender, who signed fresh terms at White Hart Lane as recently as July, is keen to increase his game time but understands he must be patient with Mauricio Pochettino's side set to battle for silverware on four fronts this term.

"After last season, where I played towards the end quite frequently, I'm already down on other expectations for this season," he told Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung.

"That [my injury] has taken me back a bit. It is difficult at the moment but I am patiently waiting for my chance. I try to always stay positive.

"The feedback from the club is always that they are very happy; that they see the future with me. This is very positive, but it is about the here and now."

Wimmer also appears to have fallen behind academy graduate Cameron Carter-Vickers in recent weeks, with the 18-year-old occasionally claiming a place on the bench ahead of his Austrian teammate.
But Wimmer is hopeful he can finally get some game time under his belt after the international break with Spurs set to face a gruelling schedule of six games in just 23 days.

"We will see what happens in the next few weeks; how much I start. We have a few midweek matches," he added.

Fair play to him, he must be itching to be playing but still prepared to fight for his place.

I bet a few quality clubs would love to have him, we are very lucky to have 3 excellent CB's or are very lucky to have Pochettino at the helm to bring on these CB's.

Would not blame him if he wanted regular first team football elsewhere but I think he will get plenty of opportunities this season to fill his boots with glory.

LEVERKUSEN -- Mauricio Pochettino lost his cool at the suggestion there is confusion about Kevin Wimmer's situation at Tottenham Hotspur, and said the defender is part of his plans.

Pochettino named 18-year-old Cameron Carter-Vickers on the bench ahead of Wimmer in five out of the first six league matches and the Austria international's only appearance of the season has come against League One Gillingham in the EFL Cup.

Before Tuesday's Champions League match at Bayer Leverkusen, the Spurs manager dismissed the suggestion that Carter-Vickers could deputise for the injured Toby Alderweireld but he still named the teenager on the bench for the 0-0 draw, with Wimmer again absent on his return to Germany.

Told that fans and the media were confused by Wimmer's situation, Pochettino said: "Why are you confused? You are creating an issue that doesn't exist. You say it's a big problem for the supporters and media are very concerned.

"His situation was [he was] out of the 18 players. I need to take a decision about that."

Asked if Wimmer, who made 21 appearances last season, was still in his plans, Pochettino added: "Why not? When did I tell you he wasn't in my plans?

"I'm very honest with you. When a player is not in my plans, I tell you quickly but first I tell the player.

"He's in my plans. When I put him on the bench, another player needs to be put out. Tell me which player you would switch with him? That's your opinion."
During the international break, Wimmer said he had received "very positive" feedback from the club but admitted he was "down on expectations" for the season.

The left-footer impressed as deputy for Jan Vertonghen as the left-sided centre-half last season and Pochettino explained that Ben Davies, on the bench at the BayArena, could cover there, so he wanted the right-footed Carter-Vickers to provide "balance."

"I'm the manager and I always need to find balance on the bench," he added. "Ben Davies can play as a centre-back or as a full-back. I need another right, not another left [foot]. If something happens with [Eric] Dier or [Kieran] Tripper, I need a right foot. So the decision is to give balance to the bench and the team if something happens.

"The level we have is very competitive. Cameron shows in every session he is at the same level as others. Sometimes it's Cameron, sometimes Kevin, sometimes Ben Davies, sometimes Trippier, sometimes [Kyle] Walker.

"He's in my plans. If he's not, I'll tell him first and then you. I'm always honest, you know me very well."

UEFA rules require all comments at pre and postmatch news conferences to be translated if required but Pochettino stopped the translator and abruptly left, saying: "It's not appropriate to translate in German."

The Spurs manager continued the discussion after the news conference and he seemed particularly perturbed by the suggestion his decisions had been confusing.

Wimmer signed a new five-year deal with Tottenham in July but in August, a source close to Pochettino told ESPN FC that the manager would listen to offers for the 23-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur want to keep Kevin Wimmer and see him as a regular starter within two years, but Chelsea's move for Virgil van Dijk could start a summer scramble, according to the Austrian's agent.

After a fine period filling in for the injured Jan Vertonghen in his first season at Spurs, the 24-year-old Austrian has struggled to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino's starting line up on a consistent basis since joining from Koln.

The Austria international will want to make more than the 10 appearances he made last season for Tottenham - especially with the 2018 World Cup in Russia on the horizon, and many had expected him to move on this summer.
"They still see him as a talent. If he remains, he will be a regular in two years' time," Werner told Austrian media outlet Spox. "At the age of 24, Wimmer should have outgrown the definition of talent, but his position in England would be different.

"The top clubs in the Premier League are all the more reputable, and John Stones is the only regular under 25."Recent reports claim that Spurs are asking for £20m for the defender and it is believe that Southampton are among four Premier League clubs interested in him and Werner admits it is tough for foreign clubs to afford players in the English top flight.

Interesting. Obviously you can give an agents comments about as much consideration as a dry fart in the wind, but the point about him being only 24, and Stones being the only regular CB under 25, is a legitimate one.

Not for me,we need the cover, and poch is the coach he needs if he stays at THFC
Yeah, we need two CBs as cover, really 3 if we're three in the back. If anyone is loaned it ought to be CCV.
