I’m more pissed off about Canada losing the hockey than I am about Spurs losing to Arsenal.

And I am not even Canadian.

I am virtually desensitised to the Spurs shitshow for the moment.

The problem is, and will continue to be, that we don’t have the quality to control games for any stretch of time. I feel reasonably confident that we’ll get enough results to avoid the drop, and I thought the game today could’ve been different without that very soft decision against RKM on the disallowed goal. But we don’t have the players to go toe to toe with anybody near the top half of the table much less the leaders.

As for the 2nd RKM goal being disallowed, I'm sure we've all seen stronger pushes on the back being allowed in the very recent past. Yes he used two hands but it was Gabriel embellishing it + it's Arsenal vying for the title.

At this point, I'm not too worried about the possibility of the drop, unless we get a few more injuries before the wounded get back.

Canada was the much better side after the first shift but you have to take your chances. Too many opportunities were wasted. In fact, just Mackinnon's & Toews chances would have gone in 9,999 out of 10,000 times.

PS When younger, I used to play football against Cellebrini's dad, Rick. He's the one with the stylish hair they kept showing in the crowd.

Interestingly, he was the physio for Canada's 2010 Olympic Alpine Team, for the Whitecaps of MLS, & the NBA's Golden State Warriors.

Eketike’s shove on Romero for his goal in the Liverpool game came to mind.

Anyone else sense that VDV has checked out?
Given the occasion (new coach, NLD) his intensity seemed much lower than usual & there was a point in the match where Igor was giving him & the back line instructions yet he ignored him.

We can't sell everyone... maybe we should though
Agreed: we could afford to take the hit on many of the players, and likely wouldn't have a wholesale clearout, but players like VdV, Porro, Romero et al surely have a relegation clause in their contracts.

Plus even with parachute payments revenues would plummet, and I've read that a big problem we have is that the club owe massive debts due to amortized transfer payments that Levy always insisted on. That wouldn't go away, so there would be a need to shift players on high wages and potentially high transfer values.

It's a weird one, because I think a lot of fans would be OK with getting rid of most of the senior players even if we stay up. What a fucking farce this is.

If you invested your career in a business that subsequently failed to back you and team, and that sullied your reputation to a degree... You'd check out...

The club has way bigger issues than VDV and they're all their own making...

Yeah, his head has definitely turned. I'm disappointed in him having that attitude tbh. Thought he was better than that.
Of course there are several others not performing but that's because most of them are simply not good enough. Mickey is a top player, better than Cuti imo....the club needs both of them giving everything between now and the end of the season, and if we stay up, they can both fuck off wherever they want to go...IF we get EXACTLY what we want for them. If not, they can train with the youth team as far as I'm concerned.

They can't escape from the reality that they are the two primary CBs in one of the worst-defending teams in the league. VdV is an extraordinary athlete and a great recovery tackler, but he hasn't exactly covered himself in glory this season anymore than anyone else.

I always thought it was interesting that when he and Spence ignored Frank after the Chelsea game that a lot of fans immediately took it as a stick to beat Frank with. VdV was critical of Ange as well IIRC.

The club need to hold everyone to a high standard. The board. The recruitment. blah blah blah.

The players though. You want to mug me off? There goes a week of wages. You want to post about the board? You are right they suck, but thats a week of wages. etc. You suck at your job (CEO man and Johan),you're fired. If there are never consequences it becomes the inmates running the asylum and nothing will change.

Well, I would not be surprised to see both Van de Ven and Romero leave regardless if whether or not we get relegated. Shame because in theory, these two should make an awesome CB pairing.

I think that sacking Ange has quite a negative impact on some of the players, particularly VdV (even though I do remember a dig he made publicly about Ange wanting to manage his recovery when he dropped him one time)

But, we do have a Centre back potentially better then either, potential world class.

And no, his name is not Danso...

That game really scares me.

Tudor should be coming in and trying to steady the ship with some stern words and probably a good kick in the arse, but the one thing he shouldn't be doing is trying to drastically change a formation first game and play everyone out of position. Was complete stupidity and we were an utter mess because of it.

The lad Simons was doing my head in. At least 4 times players overlapped him with good runs and instead of using them he'd turn and look around as if he's Iniesta going to do something magical and inevitably getting disposesed. Wasn't the worst but was annoying the fuck out of me.

We're in real trouble. Absolute pish.

don't get me all hot and bothered by you not using the transfer thread
Isn't the transfer thread for more realistic "news" 🤡

it does suck hearing it all ( probably good to clear out a bunch of players)
Bergval and Luka at Liverpool would be awful.. Id hate to start hating Bergval ..
But at least Liverpoop seems to give the youngsters a chance to earn a spot in the Team...
This fucking club....
