Momentum has to be kept, sensible resting of half a dozen?no point playing the prospects if they suffer from a confidence crusher now,mix and intergrate em sensibly. For instance if we want Janssen to score, gain form and confidence,at least give him a better chance with one or two of our normal midfield suppliers. To me throwing winks, onomah, carroll, nkoudou, sissoko as a MF unit just to make eleven changes gives no continuity, they need an eriksen,or dembele or a wanyama in there,(i see you did that this isnt aimed at you;)) to guide and help.Balance the need for a win and resting with developing the squad together, not creating an A & B side feeling.
well thats my view.

Good point mate but like I said above, Carter-Vickers, Onomah and Janssen apart, the rest are first team members anyway. It's not like they aren't used to playing together.

Still, Pochettino won't pick that line-up anyway so it's a moo, view of a cow point lol.

It`ll be interesting to see;how he values this cup, whom he trusts, who he feels needs a break, who needs to keep their confidence going. There are 20 odd players who could feature, the permutations are hign and reasons for each change argued. If you play vorm? keep toby or jan?along who wimmer or CCV,3 at the back again?or 4 and play nkoudou as a winger?,try 442 with kane&janssen? who knows, expect a meltdown later when its announced one way or the other by some or others, not everyone is going to be either right or happy!!

I will reserve my melt-down until the final whistle blows, and even then I probably won't melt. I might defrost a little bit. Cup games are unpredictable as fuck, we might play our number one strongest team and get mulched or we could play the youth team and win 10-0. I really want us to win the FA Cup this year but I won't calling for the head of the Poch if we get knocked out. Cups are loverly and shiney but I always see them as a bonus.

I agree though, there will be meltdowns in other places whoever the Poch picks, too strong, not strong enough, the wrong flavour.....

To start strong and get some goals before substitutes or to start squad and score from the bench later if needed....that is the question.(Pochespeare 1782)

I hope the latter is good enough, Villa will rest a few as well as they. Red to get out of their league.Problem is if they get a lucky goal and then defend well....glad I'm not a football manager.

Someone was asking what the priority might be for us with the FA Cup this year....I think we have our answer, the Villa team actually looks reasonable and quite strong. This won't be a walk in the park. Good luck lads

Mauricio: "We have a strong squad & we need to show today that we can trust in everyone. It's important for us to go further in the FA Cup."
"After a very busy period, give rest to some players who need rest and others deserve to play because they've worked very hard."

I like that from Poch...

COYS
Makes sense as long as we get the result though.Dier gets time back as DM and capt, toby holds wimmer and ccv together, much depends on how big signings son and sissoko dominate or not, thats around 50m of spending right there in lilywhite, they should be capable!if not winks will show them how!!
What I like is that hugo, dele, kane if not playing are rested, warm ups, team talks, sitting on the bench is only resting their leg muscles not their whole self.
If trippier excels again, well that will suit me fine!!

edit duh !dele is sub

Davies and trip are getting forward well.

Jansen has to stay in the fucking box ffs..... he will not score from midway in their half.

His touch is nervy too. He needs to relax.

3 at the back look like vary vary good substitutes for the established boys.

I'm gonna say this but Winks reminds me of........RATFISHBOY.

If you want to see some absolute cuntishness then you know where to lurk! There are some classics there today! OK, the first half wasn't a classic example of the beautiful game, but 9 changes were made and it obviously takes a bit of time to click in a proper competitive match situation.

I was going to post a numptyism - 'fuck me Poch, what the farking fuck are you doing taking of Aldereiweld and bringing on N'koodo, what the fuck do you think he is going to do - pop an assist onto Ben Davies' head for a cracking goal as his first touch? For fucks sake geezer!'. Phew lucky I didn't post that eh?

I was really impressed with Harry Winks (again),I think we will soon be calling him Fishboy, no need for the rat bit. I really like George Kevin, he livened the game up big time. Tripper was yet again first class and deserved his MOTM, I gave it to Winks but I won't argue with that decision. Sissoko looks unfit to me, he seems to have lost his pace and was disappointing? Son had some moments of brilliance, but Dele was shite, he didn't even score! Carter Vickers was solid and it's nice to know he is there waiting for his chance. Felt sorry for Janssen I really want him to score, come on Vincent, you can do it mate!

Who do we want next? Anybody! We can beat whoever dares to stand in front of us.

I thought it was a decent enough performance given the changes, Winks was brilliant, the kid just likes such a natural, the way he pings the ball about is amazing

Ratfishboy comparisons are not at all over the top with Winks, if anything he's more physically developed at his age than Modders was when we bought him. I think he might actually be our best option in the central MF position in games like today, he just keeps the ball circulating, which, as Klopp was saying about their game, is all you can do when the other team sets up like that.

Overall I thought we were right good, I agree that Sissoko was ineffective, but it wasn't really his kind of game--a bit surprised that Poch put him out there tbh. Davies and Trippier were very good, Nkoudou was a live wire, and Dier looked assured as always. Janssen needs a goal, end of. Probably Onomah's best cameo performance thus far as well.

There was some idiot on the Guardian match thread crapping on about how Winks is shit and only makes sideways passes. First of all, we were playing against a parked bus, secondly it's not even true even in this game. Fucking hell, if that person is actually a Spurs fan - how the fuck can you also think he is even the same type of player as Mason or Carroll?

I think a game where a team parks 6 in defence would be hard for kane to be effective as well given both of their styles (janssen) not being speed merchants, also I think winks is well suited for a deeper carrick type passing role,if he had dembele or eriksen further up from him to give it to,we would have destroyed villa.
As for Dier defensively he is very sound, just needs to carry it forward a tad more&commit players before moving it on.
Its good to have managed a game as such even though it wasnt a beautiful spectacle, and that hugo, eriksen, kane, dembele, wanyama, walker, rose all got a complete matchday off,to me sitting on the bench you are still involved, just you save 10km of running which Poch will squeeze out of you the day after ;)

Another great piece, with stats and stuff in Telegraph Sport http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...ton-villa-fa-cup-third-round-live-score-goal/

Did you know that yesterday - during the 90 mins the ball was actually out of play for 37 minutes and 9 seconds.....that's nearly a whole half. Spurs had possession for 35 minutes and 8 seconds. So you haven't got 90 minutes to score a goal at all....in an 'even' game you've got about 30 minutes...

Pretty much perfect afternoon

The first half was ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and the Park Lane was virtually silent with the Villa fans taking the 'P' big time. Embarrassing!!
Janssen needs to go out on loan and hopefully starting clicking without the pressures of WHL.
Dele and Nkoudou woke the game up and we had something to cheer about.
Give the young lads credit as in previous season their heads would have dropped and we would have lost in the 89 minute.
Look forward to tonight's draw.

PS. Best chant of the match was from the Villa fans when they sang 'Mike Dean is One of Their Own''

Winks was excellent, again. He's certainly doing his chances of nailing down a regular spot no harm whatsoever. Janssen I'm more concerned about because he doesn't look like he's built up any sort of understanding with the rest of the side. I know it's early days in the grand scheme of things but I watch him and he just doesn't look like an instinctive striker to me, in his positioning. Given his extreme lack of pace I'd say it's more important that he's johnny on the spot than for a lot of other strikers. I'm willing him to succeed but I don't want another Soldado,

Yeah but! Their chanting "Champions of Europe.. you'll never sing that" got on my tits, so I chanted back at my telly - 'EUFA Cup Winners Cup, Champions of Europe - you'll never sing that' and the old classic 'European Cup Winners Cup, Champions Of Europe - you'll never sing that' and you know what? It's blooming true! But their chant is bollox because we WIIL be singing 'Champions Of Europe' one day.
