I took my daughter today. It was a shame because I’m typically a positive sort of bloke, but there was nothing today. Chelsea came flying out of the traps, worked really hard for 98 minutes, chased everything, had a good counter attack shape and could have won by more. They beat us up everywhere.

Everything that could have gone wrong for us did go wrong. We were a shambles second best on every level and every aspect. Huge disappointment when there was a lot at stake, the players need to show what they are made of in the second half of the season.

I was hoping that he would be next to either "prime" Wanyama or Dier. They're both so off the pace right now..
Wanyama looked shot to bits last we saw of him..... I think he is finished.

I think today's game has takes a bit of a leap forwards. To be a decent midfielder you cant be just that specialised DLP, or creative influence, or that sitting workrate destroyer.... you have to be superb at one of those things and be able to to the others pretty well too.

I look at the best midfielders and they're the ones who can do it all.

KDB is superb at absolutely everything. There doesn't seem to be a weakness to his game.

Mane again struggling for a weakness.

Even James Madison.... does it all way better than of our midfielders.

I get your point about an all around player. Ideally, we should be looking for more of those.
I was just pointing out that if we had Wanyama as he was when he first joined us or Dier of 2-3 seasons ago, we'd be in a much better state.

Now, & as you say, we need to think bigger than the Grealish's (not that he wouldn't help)

It's more & more evident isn't it.
Dembele was able to retain possession while driving forward.
He could ghost past a defender requiring a 2nd defender to come to him.
This opened up more space for our other attackers.

Add in that we also now lack the FB's bombing down the wings adding more width, & in so obvious why we are such an anemic attack (or at least easier to defend against).

Typically when you play a double pivot midfield, one is your best defender (destroyer) while the other is your best ball handler.
Right now, it's as if we have neither. Just jack of all trades filling in.

Absolutely re the full backs mate and the midfield. With the width that Rose and Walker were able to give us, it allowed the 3 attacking mids and Harry to play more together and play off each other. Now Sonny and Lucas have to take that role and it leaves us with nothing in the middle, other than Dele and Harry and one of them has to then come over to whichever side the play's in and then there's very few bodies in the middle, not to mention it was why we were so good with the high press as well. Against the better teams it's so easy to play against, allow us to go side to side, up to the opponents area, they then win possession back because our passing's so shit, then they counter through what seems to be a non existent midfield.

I'll add we're still a good side but the games against Utd and the Chavs have massively highlighted are weaknesses, but the worst part, was the lack of fight in both games.

I think Madison would be the perfect fit for us..but we'd have to pay big in transfer fee and wages to get him here..especially in Jan....think he'd be worth it though. Dont agree that we'd need to think bigger than Grealish either though ?! Did we say that when we signed Dele from MK Don's? Grealish has been outstanding for Villa and Madison has been one of the best attacking midfielders in the league....why go across Europe looking for someone else ? Shop local...

A crap, lazy performance that was made a million times worse by two massive moments of stupidity. Both decisions were correct, Gazaniga's mental moment was nowhere near as bad as Son's. Gazaniga got desperate and just made a bad decision, Son's was fucking stupid and he deserves his 3 match ban, but for a bloke earning fucking millions, playing or not what difference does that make, apart from the effect on the team?

Re Gazza's moment of madness.

I'm just trying to reason out & understand why he did what he did.
Because he could have easily come out & caught the ball as he was within his box.
But obviously he didn't.
Do you think he may have come out to both kick the ball away AND take out Alonso? And thus maybe endearing himself to the Spurs fans at the same time?

Doesnt matter if we signed prime hoddle,if our way of play is lump it forward.

I get that with better personnel that could change, just keeping the ball was never a problem with Poch,so I dont buy that they cant have strong possession.I dont mind getting it forward quickly when the game and opposition suits,But when a team lines up 5 at the back against our 3 or 4 we will always be so simply over run in midfield regardless of personnel. And Kane and little lucas are fair enough to win in the air and hold up play,Son and Dele`s tricks and flicks dont work when they have no space behind 5 defenders pushed up against them.

Out fought, out thought, maybe he`s not special any more??looked quite obvious to me a layman that dier&sissoko were up against double their number most of the time and as pointed out they are no dembele`s.

Good thinking! In that case he is a twat because Alonso walked away, 0/10.

Alonso actually bottled the challenge and in doing so ran in to Gazza, not that it was a clever thing to do and was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Man oh man, where to start. First, the performance was crap. I mean the overall effort and intensity was way off, which was odd because the supporters opened with great intensity. The mental mistakes, my gosh. On the first goal you can blame both Aurier (whom I blame more) or Sissoko (who could have at least maybe reacted). Okay fine. Then the Gazzaniga disaster. The more I've watched it, the more intentional it looks. But it just doesn't make sense. In a one goal game he was perfectly happy to let the ball bounce just outside the six yard box so he could kick Alonso. Nothing wrong with wanting to kick Alonso, but maybe wait till after the match? An aside, I really don't like the chanting at Alonso. While I think he is a douche I have no idea what that incident may have done to him mentally. Just seems a bit much to me.

Anyways, back to the abomination. Dier and Sissoko are awful together. Just the absolute worst. Moura was MIA again. Might as well play Kane at CM so he can get involved a bit. I am not even joking. As for Son, he lost his cool and the red was deserve, BUT .... the PL doe sit to themselves. Son gets stomped and raked behind the play constantly (the same for Zaha) but the league apparently can't watch game film to see what's going on. And since it's usually off the play there's no VAR review. Eventually, people crack. Son is clearly sick of it and rightfully so. But he's got to keep his cool there. Rudieger's challenge probably deserved a yellow, but it wasn't ridiculous. Probably a cumulative thing for Son, but he's gonna keep getting targeted.

And for the, in addition to Rudieger's mimicking the monkey act, he apparently told the ref that there were racist songs being sung about him from the south stand. It certainly didn't come across on TV, but you certainly saw the debris and him claiming someone made the racist monkey act. Strangely no Spurs players heard the songs, nor does it sound like anyone on here who was at the match did either? If our players heard it, they should say so. Unless it was literally just one or two dudes taunting him, but Rudieger's comments seem to indicate otherwise. All in all, the worst match in a very long time. Jose needs to sort himself quickly. He was badly out-classed by Frank. No more freaking long balls. Ah, the lone bright spot was Ndombele. He can certainly dribble and keep possession, which qualifies him as our best midfielder.

gazzingas challenge was nothing compared to Bosnich challenge on. klinnsmann away against Villa back in the 80’s .
i agree when Gazza missed it , Alonso fell into him , the way he drives , he could easily have avoided him , but then he wouldn’t have got the pen

I am right fecked off with the British media ,and Sky and TalkSPORT .....Spurs are the first club to have a 3 tannoyed mention over the loudspeaker about Racism is not right ,etc and of course it’s not .
BUT , when the Man City Guy was accused , pictures were in the paper the next day , same with the Chelsea fan onSterling .
but yesterday , I heard from 251 row 3 , wanker and cheat , but that’s it
I’d guess 80 % of the stewards are black , right behind the incident ,were quite a few Koreans ( who video everything ) and two black lads in row 3/4 .
it also happened in the side of the pitch where Aurier and Sanchez and Sissoko would have been , and Only Ruttiger heard it ,weird that , or is it cause he alleged it before out in Italy

Chelsea lost again today. Thats 5 losses from the last 7, the only teams they have beaten are us and Aston fucking Villa. I am even more disgruntled about our performance against them now, they are pony, so we must be a whole herd of ponies. A thrown away opportunity.

Yeah, but the flip side is that win over us counts for absolutely nothing now.
