What do prison population figures SUGGEST in relation to quotas of ethnicity ?
I seem to remember the proportion is far higher.
We are importing crime.

Not something I have studied, but a quick search reveals something interesting, as we discussed earlier, perception V reality shows the following:

In the UK, as of June 2023, the prison population stood at approximately 85,900 individuals. Ethnic representation within this population reveals significant disparities compared to the general population.

• White prisoners make up about 73% of the prison population, which is somewhat lower than their proportion in the general population.
• Black individuals represent 12% of the prison population, a stark overrepresentation given that they constitute only around 3% of the general population.
• Asian prisoners account for 8% of the prison population.
• Mixed ethnicity individuals make up 5%, and other ethnic groups constitute 2%.

These figures suggest that Black and Mixed ethnicity individuals are disproportionately represented in the prison system, particularly among younger age groups. For example, Black individuals comprise 30% of the under-18 prison population, highlighting a significant overrepresentation among youth. This trend reflects broader systemic issues, including possible disparities in policing, sentencing, and socio-economic factors that disproportionately affect minority communities

The murders per million rate by Blacks is 4 times higher than Whites.
39.7 per million to 8.9.

Understanding this range requires knowing the baseline population size and the event's frequency. A smaller population with the same number of occurrences would result in a higher rate per million, while a larger population with the same number of occurrences would result in a lower rate.

Yesterday I reported an incident of dangerous driving. It was extremely aggressive and irresponsible. A car overtook me at speed on the M6, I was travelling at 70 mph in the middle lane. The car came past me as if I was stood still. It zoomed up behind a car in his lane and had to brake hard, he then swerved into the middle lane to try and undertake the car in front of him, the car he was attempting to undertake started to pull over thus blocking his manoeuvre ( not sure of that was intentional ) The speeding car swerved again into the third lane to overtake after braking hard to avoid collision.
I asked my wife to write down both reg numbers of the perp and witness.
The traffic bunched up and slowed in the third lane more quickly than the middle lane so I drew up alongside the perp, he was black and on his mobile phone. I reported the incident to the police and gave both reg numbers. The police knew exactly where I was by my phone location. This is a common occurrence now, over aggressive driving and speeding. The other day an Asian guy gave me the finger because I objected to being undertaken and sounded my horn to let him know it was illegal.

It's not about me and the thread is about ethnic crime.
But I have had two vehicles stolen by the traveller community.
A thief I caught stealing from my shop was a lowlife with his skank girlfriend in tow.
I lived in Guernsey for 3 years, they have very little crime. They vet everyone coming to the island to work and live. It is strictly controlled.

For the January to March 2022 cohort, 42 juvenile offenders were released from custody and 25 (59.5%) were proven to have committed a reoffence within a year

There should be no early release, a sentence is just that and should be served. Release only if rehabilitation is deemed complete. Build more prisons, open up dis-used military camps in the meantime.

Potentially good ideas, unfortunately this is an impact of a backlog of nearly 60,000 criminal court cases after a string of justice secretaries reduced the number of judges, sold off courts, and stood by as one in four criminal barristers quit in despair at our crumbling criminal justice system.

More serious offenders need to go in, so some offenders with 20% left of their sentence are being released to make room.

Crimes as serious as burglary, street robbery, car break-ins and fraud have effectively been decriminalised because the cut of 21,000 police from our streets, leaving too few to respond to 999 calls.

6 new prisons are being built. The alliance was procured via the CCS Framewo4K. The six sites covered by the alliance contracts are HMPs Bullingdon, Channings Wood, Elmley, Highpoint, Hindley and Wayland. There are also plans to build new houseblocks at HMP Stocken and Guys Marsh.

Myself being politically neutral, you can see the impact of the last 14 years to public services and you hope this improves once the new lot have been given more than a month in charge. Bit like judging Ange, they need more than a season

Abhorrent. However, the "gesture of good will" is not allowed and this incident should not ever have happened. The prison will have to answer why they put this woman at risk. However the perpetrator was arrested the same day (in hours infact) and recalled to prison. The reason they could do this was because of the scheme. Well done Labour for making a tough decision.

Correct, that is part of their role. So how could they have done that if the prisons were full? They couldn't because the police at that point will be told to stop policing. Yep to stop arresting people. No threat or deterrent to criminals will lead to a breakdown in society very very quickly. Well done Labour on making a tough decision.

If there's no incentive to behave (early release) why would you bother? Part of that rehabilitation is showing you can behave. Other than A cat, prisons are run on the goodwill of the prisoners. Staffing of a ration of about 50-1 means that this has to be the case. Take away early release and you have to increase staff by a factor of 10. That'll be very costly and make prison punitive as opposed to rehabilitative.

As for building new jails I believe they are doing that... I know you'll agree while Labour are good, they'll need a bit more than 2 months to plan, develop, initiate and comission the raft of new establishments that the Tories didn't t bother their arse to even look at. Good work Labour.

I haven't seen anyone get 3 years for throwing stones... I've seen them get that for throwing bricks, flaming bins, scaffold poles, overturning cars, torching cars, assault, gbh, threats to kill, antisemitism, racism, sexism, homophobia and even worse. I'd love to see evidence of this 3 years throwing stones incident if you can share. Aside from that, I think we're still using the sentencing guidelines installed under the Tories and they're keen on thieving from everyone so may have encouraged leniency. I can see why you may be upset potentially finding yourself in that same situation in the near future.
