Those making excuses are fucking pathetic...

We set a bar, we set a standard, we acutely demonstrated exactly what we are capable of last week against far superior opposition and we spectacularly failed to achieve that standard or even get anywhere near it...

There was no tiredness, no abnormally long breaks, no devastating injuries, no special defining circumstance that singled out this game as anything other than another league game... (maybe that's the problem)

I am not blaming the manager, the players, the tea lady or any other cunt... THEYRE ALL TO BLAME.

A culmination of mediocre shite.

If you can't be consistent at this level than you ain't good enough.

50/60% of that side need selling as they're simply not able to compete week in and out.

And all that, before I get onto the style of football, It's dull boring, monotonous shite...!
I agree, if you fail to address the defence for 4 years+ and continue to play Alderweireld and Vertonghen's understudy's that is what you get. Could have been 6 or 7

Think about how much better our defense was in say, 2017 or '18? We had a much younger, better Lloris, prime Toby, prime Jan, and the starting England left back and right backs (Rose and Walker). We are significantly worse at every single defensive position. You could make a strong argument we are weaker in midfield (no more Dembele, and Dele was kidnapped by aliens) and way worse creatively (no Eriksen). Add that up and we are weaker in at least SEVEN positions, in some cases significantly so. Hell, you might be able to argue that even Kane was more dynamic then. Pretty brutal when you lay it all out like that. And yeah, wrong thread and all.

Looking for some insight here as I missed our last two matches v Citeh & Leicester.
Hard to tell much from the highlights.

Seems they were Jeckyll & Hyde performances. Night & day difference.
Seemingly superb v Citeh yet so flat / lifeless v Leicester.

Why?

Stellini was there for Citeh (no Conte) but Conte was in charge at Leicester. Can't be that simple.

This is a strange point of view, I don’t buy the thought behind it and I believe it’s another straw to clutch by some of the Conte-out brigade. But opinions hey?

City have an issue with our place, and in general with us. I sometimes think it’s as simple as they don’t sit back which allows us to pressure or counter. If you look at the goals we score, they come from those type of plays.

Also. If City played us at full strengt, we would have lost.

All of Leicester goals came through horrendous play by our defence. So regardless of our manager, we will not challenge or play any system well with the players we have.

These players were understudies to Jan, Toby, Danny and Kyle. Apart from moments of quality they are never consistent I.e. more good games than bad.

Dier, Davies, Sanchez, Tanganga, Sess, Perisic are not good enough. They would be the same under a new manager or bringing back an old one.

Look, Conte not signing a contract is an issue. But we need a new defence to support Romero and Porro. I would like Conte to get one more summer and then see how it goes

Look, I get the point that all those defenders were understudies to our previous defenders. Unless they've improved, it's definitely a drop in quality.

Individual errors aside.
From all accounts, we played a fantastic game against Citeh but we failed to play that way v Leicester (FWIW I didn't see either game). The intensity, the emotion, the intricate patterns of play displayed v Citeh was far greater than the pedestrian one at Leicester. Why such a dramatic drop in such a short period? I believe it was @Yid that stated we had set a new standard of play & showed what we are capable of. So why aren't they exhibiting that more consistently?

Has Conte made one player better since he's been at the club? I can't think of one that has visibly improved. These defenders can be coached, and at least some of them ought to be improving.

Generally I’m in agreement with @Havocc - we weren’t that brilliant against City, just buoyed by the way Pep played into our hands yet again. We most certainly are lacking quality in the back, and the next manager isn’t going to be able to get a tune out of them either.

Nevertheless, Conte’s style of play bores me silly, we’re never going to give him the calibre of players he seems to need to make his system work, and it seems likely that he will bugger off anyway. So yes, I’d rather let someone else in charge by the time we get to the summer window.

The Dark Lord will never part with cash if there's a chance he doesn't have to... he'll wait for Conte to jump so his obligation on continued wages is limited.

We're stuck with this brand of football until Conte decides he wants to go home.

And then we start this process all over again. Big sigh.

We've fucked it... in a massive way, ever since we lost the scouting network we stole from Southampton... thats where it all stared to come together and we ammased a group of players Poch could mould and send us on our way.

Look, maybe I'm looking backwards too much but if that means I don't have to watch the shite served up today then I'm happy to be an ignorant fool.

The fact is the infrastructure of the football has been destroyed and that cornerstone of how we operate, destabalised everything and slowly killed the way we opperate and play.

Since then it's been in one direction as the flow of players to replace and or improve the squad have not been there. Last club kid to seriously add to the playing staff....?

All the managers since that decision have suffered as a consequence.

The only reason it's been so slow and we've achieved relative success (4th is not a success measure in my book) is that some of those gems have hung around and held it all together. So far.

We need to go back to basics and stop investing in our property portfolio and back into the kids we bring into the club... it'll take years to bare fruit so if we want to continue to compete we'll have to invest heavily, in line with our peers, in established players to match the clubs ambitions (footballing or financial).

All this comes down to funding and we all know that renting the back garden out to Lady Gaga and Tyson Fury are way more profitable and inherently wayyyyy less risky in terms of an investment.

Sorry guys but this club has gone and a corporation has replaced it.

You are now a consumer and not a fan.

All you're doing is funding more super yachts, the product on the pitch will not improve regardless of how much we shout or cheer.

I'm so fucking tired of it now I feel like we need a change...

A change of the football, a change of the business model, a change of the personnel, and change of ethos...
