“If I’m honest, he’s shocked me!” stated Ledley during an appearance on our Warm Up show at the end of last season. “There are not many times you get a young, left-footed, centre-half who is rapid, and you don’t know too much about him.

"I didn’t know too much about him... so, for him to be here and to be of the quality he is, it’s really impressive. He’s impressed everyone, he’s been fantastic... scoring goals as well as well as defending! I love everything about him.

“First and foremost, he’s very comfortable on the ball, left footers always look nice, regardless of what position they play in, and he has a nice left foot. It’s his speed though, his recovery speed as well as when he’s bringing the ball out.

“That’s such a big thing, especially when we want to play such an attacking style of football, to have his speed at the back makes everyone feel so secure.

“We’ve seen Cuti trying to bomb on, that’s what he loves to do, it’s part of his game, playing forward and joining in, or just making a run, that’s his style of play. So, to have someone like van de Ven at the back gives you that security.

“I don’t expect to see anyone outrun him any time soon! I can’t see anyone beating him at the moment. His pace... I think he could run in the 100-metre final, and he wouldn’t finish last! That’s how fast he is. It’s actually quite funny to watch people try to outrun him. He gets quicker, quicker and quicker!”

Nobody's even close. Incredible.
On that goal, Rashford, who is fast himself, he didn't even see The Flash when he got dispossessed / beaten to the ball.

Werner is pretty rapid too, considering he is a few years older. That surprised me

I really like Micky Van De Ven but he keeps getting injured , and a player on the treatment table isn't any good for the team . I'm hoping they can get to the bottom of the reason his hamstring keeps going , but our tactics when he plays don't help matters . When he plays we adopt a much higher line , which relies on his sprinting at full speed .

Lots of news about him changing the way his biomechanics work in order to reduce the impact in his hammys...

For me it's obvious that the Prem is a significant step up and Anges system asks for everything he has, a lot of the time and if you're not 100% then that'll have an impact...

Fingers crossed we get him sorted and even better than he was before...

He's a worldie, a serious world class talent.

The flip side to that is that Ange's style of play that really makes him shine. I'm reassured that they're talking about getting his stride and body positioning sorted out. Sometimes it feels like these boys (yeah I know they're millionaires) get fed through the wringer without much concern for their bodies. Nice to see them trying to get the root cause worked out.

Micky van de Ven on walking past Thomas Frank after the Chelsea match

"Of course it’s the past so I don’t want to make it bigger than it is. Djed and I walked [off], we were just frustrated after the game and everything got really exploded by the media, it was nothing big to be honest," said the centre-back. "Everyone thinks it was the gaffer, there was nothing to do with the gaffer.

"We were just frustrated after the game because of a bad performance from myself as well. We want to play well and I didn’t play well in my opinion, so I was just frustrated and I just wanted to go quickly inside. As I said it got exploded by the media out of nowhere."

I hope I'm not speaking too soon but I think he's realised that his burst of speed from standstill to full pelt was causing the Hammy to go . I've noticed that he takes a slight bit longer to get to full speed and he proved that against Copenhagen . I think that him alongside Romero are the best CB pairing in PL . I just hope we don't lose either one of them to injury again . Agree with you he's definitely a world class player - same as Romero is . Big 6 pointer on Saturday , then the BIG ONE on 23rd against the scum

I read a quote earlier that said that they felt the interview came across as the start of a media campaign to ultimately secure a move after the World Cup.

Let’s hope he stays healthy long enough for that to be a possibility.
