Superb effort as usual al your some manSo I have managed to get some kip last night and I almost feel human. I got back to my hotel yesterday afternoon and was tired as fuck but could I sleep..... could I fuck.
Went out for a nice meal and few beers and tbh I couldn't enjoy it too much as I think I'm suffering a little bit of heat stroke. I had my head on the table at one point looking for a cool spot for my head!!! The weather was superb for the spectators but my forehead is the same shade as a baboons arse.... It was a warm one...!!!
The race was a very busy affair this year. An extra 2000 runners and I didn't pull my usual trick of giving some spurious finish time just behind the elite runners so that I started nearer the front and missed the traffic. I started halfway back (pen 5) on the busiest start (red). This is the furthest back iv started and it made a lot of difference.
I stared of steady thinking about a 8:30 average pace but soon decided that that needed to be reigned in a little as the heat and traffic meant it was very difficult in keeping a constant pace. I made sure I kept my pace under 9 min miles as 9:09's I knew was a 4hr finish.
Going into 23/24 miles I was sitting at an average pace of 8:50 So i knew I had a little room for slowing. From 21 miles on iy startes to get tough. This is the bit you try to condition yourself for with the fatigued training and the long runs but it is a bit of a lottery. The 23/24 miles were slower but I knew once I got that 25 mile marker it was all to be left on the track as I had about a 12 minute window to get a sub 4 time...
I stuck my boot down despite my quads feeling like lead and my hip flexors apparently being about 3 inches long I stuck a decent 9 min mile in for the last 1800 meters to the finish.
Was a fantastic day the crowds were yet again simply superb. Myself and my 2 pals all got PB's and by a long way too.
Iv made a shit load of money for an extremely worthy cause and achieved a personal ambition along the way.
Iv made new friends, learned a lot about my self and other people, been inspired and inspired others. Iv received help from so many people whom without it simply wouldn't have been possible and I hope iv done my best to pay that forward and help others.
Hope you guys have enjoyed reading my journey and it's been nice documenting it here in a safe little place for those who have an interest to read and comment on.
Thanks to all those who have supported and donated, it genuinelynmeans a lot to me and the world to the charities that represent the poorly kids.
