How does this work in American football? Its the biggest spenders that run away with it each year aint it? Do players want to be there? I suppose it is considered the pinnacle of the sport and pays the best wages so thus attracts the best players...?

I read today that Mesut Ozil has been left out of the Scum's Premier League squad having already been left out of their Europa League squad. The shithouse fans down the road had a song when I went to the NLD a couple of years ago, that went something like 'you sold Bale, we signed Ozil, Mesut Ozil'......... well not for the first time in recent history, we've shat all over them again haven't we?!!

I'm no expert, but American football has salary caps, revenue sharing, player drafts ordered by previous year's finish, etc. There's inequality--and an insufferable amount of bullshit--in American sports, but it doesn't even come close to the PL, La Liga, etc. in terms of being top-heavy. The benefit (and there are many downsides, from the fans' perspective) of the franchise model that dominates American sport is that teams have to agree to all these restrictions in order to actually be a franchise.
Agreed that all this is a disgraceful idea that would stamp out almost everything good that's still hanging on in the game's top level. It's odd though, I feel like people, including me, have sort of thought it was inevitable for like 15 years now, but it never seems to happen.

As top heavy as the PL is,I can remember liverpool,united,us,chelsea,man city all being 2nd division sides.But in this age of even greater riches,I cant see that ever happening again,and thats not a good thing..My latest thoughts which I spoke to someone about was "football is a game of chance rigged by money".Maybe it always was?but back then the money wasnt rigged as well.

Petro-states, Russian oligarchs, American hedge fund managers that run football are definitely products of our time. They may have a variety of specific motives ("sportwashing," profit, global branding, etc.) but they all have some kind of interest in attaching themselves to clubs, and they are doing a fucking great job of replicating the gross inequalities we see in the world economy that made them obscenely rich in the first place.
